Ch.0Prologue
by fnovelpia
A world of magic and supernatural powers, various races and monsters. The world I’m in now could be described as such.
People with the supernatural power to create fire earn money as human power plants, and mages create various devices like engineers.
There are also monsters threatening to humans, dungeons hidden somewhere, and villains who abuse their power.
Naturally, professions like Hunters, Adventurers, and Heroes exist to counter such beings.
There are also Mercenary Offices that mainly handle requests related to combat fields.
Though it seems there would be high demand, surprisingly, these Mercenary Offices don’t exist in large numbers. Rather, their numbers decrease every year.
First, medium-sized Mercenary Offices have lost their place, overshadowed by Large Guilds.
Then what about Mercenary Offices with considerable scale? They’re usually merged into Large Guilds.
That’s why the position of Mercenary Offices has been shrinking year after year.
However, there is a Mercenary Office with a standing above even Large Guilds.
The Hero’s Office. It can be said to be the Mercenary Office with the greatest standing in the world.
Although it only has 3 members… no, it would be more accurate to say it has as many as 3 members.
The reason becomes clear just by looking at its members.
The Hero of the Holy Sword who defeated the Demon King single-handedly.
The Holy Knight called the strongest shield in history.
The Saint chosen by God.
With three legendary heroes gathered together, they might have a standing above Large Guilds, perhaps even above nations.
But the requests that come to them are far fewer than one might expect. The reason is…
“Magic is the greatest discipline, incomparable to something like swordsmanship.”
The Hero has become fanatically obsessed with magic and abandoned the Holy Sword.
“I want to sleep with the Goddess.”
The Holy Knight, who should live a sacred and ascetic life, has nothing but desire in his head.
“There’s no way God exists in this world.”
The Saint is an atheist and a pessimist.
With people like that, it seems they couldn’t properly handle requests, but thanks to their superior basic specs, they actually process requests well.
Still, it’s undeniably unsettling to entrust requests to such people.
Anyway, let me briefly explain why I suddenly brought this up.
I have to stop the Demon King who will appear in one month, together with these people.
For reference, they hold these ideologies:
“I think the Demon King’s ideology also deserves respect.”
“Too bothersome. Don’t want to do it.”
“Our actions have no meaning. Fate is already determined anyway.”
If I can’t persuade them within a month, I’ll have to fight the Demon King one-on-one.
For reference, my chances of winning against the Demon King in a one-on-one fight are absolutely zero.
Moreover, I’ve been transformed into the body of an extremely fragile girl.
…I want to kill myself.
