Ch.00 – Prologue

No child is born with sin.

At least, that should be the case.

“You’ll grow up to commit terrible crimes, so 3 years in prison. You’re even worse, so 7 years.”

Could you accept such a sentence if you hadn’t committed any crime?

“Princess Estasha Latias de Kaizen.”

But the world seems particularly harsh to me alone.

Being reborn as a woman was frustrating enough, but to face a life sentence from birth? It’s laughable. And now, it’s the death penalty.

“Do you know your crime?”

Honestly, I still don’t really know.

The only crime I committed was living diligently in my previous life.

Without any help from those so-called parents, I managed to get into college despite my paralyzed body.

I worked part-time jobs to pay for tuition and living expenses. I tutored.

When that wasn’t enough, I was lucky to find construction work where I didn’t need to use my legs.

Because I lived so busily, I never had proper hobbies.

No time for games, obviously, and no leisure for movies or TV shows.

I could have read novels in my spare moments, which I regret now.

At least then I might have recognized which fictional world I was reborn into.

“I still don’t understand what you’re thinking.”

It’s unfair.

I’d need ten lawyers to express how unfair this is.

I died at a construction site for no reason, and apparently was reborn in some fantasy world.

Being a woman was a slight drawback, but I was born with functioning limbs and even as an imperial princess—I thought my life was looking up.

But what do you know?

They say I’m destined to become the Demon Lord who will destroy the world.

An absurd prophecy spread, and everyone became obsessed with killing me.

“Are you determined not to answer until the end?”

Even the man pointing a sword at me now is my half-brother, the next Emperor.

With the hero already dead, I suppose he has to take that role.

Anyway, I’m thoroughly tired of this life.

I want to let go of both running away and fighting back.

I may have almost destroyed the world, but in the end, I also saved it, so I believe I’ve paid for my sins.

“Just kill me now.”

“…You really are like this until the end.”

He thrust his merciless blade forward.

Now I truly felt I had reached the end of my life.

I close my eyes and wonder if there will be another life for me.

If I’m born again, I hope it’s in modern times, not this medieval era.

A world where I can bathe in clean water and fast food is abundant.

I’d like to be able to use magic too. After all, magic was the one thing I truly enjoyed in this life…

Just not a dystopian world overrun with monsters. I’d seriously bite my tongue and end it all immediately.

I’ll make sure to treat children without discrimination…
