Author’s Note
by Afuhfuihgs
There are quite a few stories with hypnosis or MC themes on other platforms or here on Novelpia. However, there were no stories that suited my taste. I’ve been tormented by the desire to ‘see a beautiful Princess-nim in a fantasy world gradually changing under hypnosis’ for a long time, but it just wouldn’t come out. So, the thirsty man started digging a well, and the result was
When I first started writing, the direction was very different from now. Serina didn’t have any affection for Mirabilis at all, she just saw her as a tool to play with thoroughly. So, Mirabilis was also initially a pitiful Princess-nim who was unilaterally teased and manipulated by Serina. But as I wrote the first draft, thinking, ‘If she were to do this, she would feel like this,’ ‘If she felt like this, she would act like this,’ the two children communicated with each other, unlike my initial concept. So, I refined the direction in the middle and completed the first draft. I further refined and fleshed out that first draft to become the current form.
In the subtitle ‘Sangsa Changeoknae,’ ‘Sangsa’ is easily mistaken for the Chinese characters for ‘mutual’ (相) and ‘death’ (死), but it actually means ‘to save each other.’ So, ‘Sangsa Changeoknae’ means ‘to save each other in Changeok.’ Mirabilis’s line to Serina, “I am yours, you are mine,” is a quote from Goethe’s Faust Part 2, translated into ancient language. According to the commentary in the Faust translation, it was originally a phrase used in German engagement ceremonies during Goethe’s time. I originally intended to explain it at the end of the Sangsa Changeoknae part, but I completely forgot.
There is hypnosis in reality, but there is no hypnosis magic. And the limitations of hypnosis are clear. But if there were hypnosis magic stronger than reality, and if someone who is neither particularly good nor evil got their hands on this hypnosis magic and had the opportunity to use it on someone attractive… what kind of 고민 and what kind of choice would that person make?
When I first wrote the prologue on the spur of the moment, I wasn’t immersed in Serina and Mirabilis. But as I wrote, I became more and more immersed… I also shared the joys and sorrows of the two children. It was a very strange experience. I searched the Standard Korean Dictionary to find the right expression, or went to the library on weekends to read a thesaurus.
Although I completed it as an unknown writer who received no attention at all on Novelpia, I am still happy if this story was 재미있었 and worth reading again later. I am also grateful to Hyodo Wang Yeopo-nim, Ham Cheese-nim, and Yunis-nim, who sponsored me even though it is a story that can be read for free.
I hope you all have a good day.
Originally, Regina Lecta was written in three stages. I wrote the first draft, and then I added flesh to the first draft and uploaded it to the J site Noblesse. But I didn’t like the ending of the first draft and the Noblesse version myself, and it broke my heart. So, I changed the ending, refined the sentences further, and added descriptions, and then uploaded a new story (the one you have seen now) to the free serialization section of the J site and Novelpia.
The canon of Regina Lecta is this story that you have seen now. But if you want to see a different ending and the side stories of the first draft, please check out Noblesse on the J site.
