134. Evacuation

    134. Evacuation

“By the way, where is Freya?”

    “Huh?”

It suddenly occurred to me while rescuing people with the luminous Ur. I thought I had rescued quite a few people so far, but I hadn’t seen my sister’s black tail anywhere.

As her older sister, I’m worried about Freya’s whereabouts.

    “Hee-a-a-a-ng♡”

    “Hmm….”

I idly stroked Ur’s head and pondered where Freya might be. After about a minute of thinking, I realized I had no idea.

“Let’s rescue people first. It seems we’ve rescued almost everyone.”

    “Yes!”

I can confidently say that we’ve thoroughly searched at least this entire area. It’s not just me working on rescue efforts; Priscilla, Claire, and even other professors and staff are all participating, so it’s clear that almost everyone in the academy has been evacuated.

Once everyone is evacuated, there’s only one thing left.

    To bring down the sky.

    “The white wolf is here-!”

    “Don’t block me.”

I kill the dragons blocking my path with a single strike and search for the stranded individuals over their corpses. The bombing continues, and the buildings that had maintained their form are now reaching their limit and collapsing. I need to hurry.

    “-Snap out of it!”

    “Maintain formation, don’t collapse!”

    “Oraaa!!”

I see students teaming up to fight the dragons. Individually, their strength is insufficient, but together, they are hunting a formidable enemy.

Although the current situation is urgent, it’s not particularly difficult to swing my sword once on the way to help. I cut off the dragon’s head and gave the students a nod before returning to search for more stranded people.

    “… It’s a dead end.”

After a few more rescues, I found myself facing the barrier that separated the academy from the outside. This meant one simple thing: at least all the people in the area I was responsible for had been rescued.

“Then Freya… she must be somewhere else.”

    “That bad person?”

    “She’s not a bad person.”

Why are you saying that about my sister?

I turned around. The vast landscape of the academy unfolded before me. Not its usual majestic appearance, symbolizing the empire’s power, but a chaotic scene of collapse, fire, ice, and lightning. However, the sheer expanse of the land remained the same.

A large land means many possible locations.

Freya isn’t here, but she must be somewhere out there.

    … Surely.

I hope my sister isn’t hurt.

    ——

“Where did all these things come from?!”

    Freya was slaughtering dragons.

As green magic flashed, tree trunks shot up from the ground, ensnaring a flying dragon and strangling it to death. Seeing this, other dragons hastily flapped their wings and fled, but the trees moved faster.

    “What the hell….”

Tree trunks extended in all directions from Freya. The corpses of dragons that had suffocated there were hanging in a line.

No matter how I looked at it, it was a disgusting sight, far from my sister’s cute and adorable image.

“What if my sister sees this?!”

She couldn’t ruin the image she had painstakingly built for such a trivial reason. In a fit of anger, Freya flung the tree trunks away, dropping the corpses onto the ground. The earth shook with a thud.

Countless dragons were still flying in the sky. And something was shimmering.

“Huh? A magic barrier… is it an illusion?”

A wall of magic filled the sky. The dragons were hiding their forms. She didn’t know what they were hiding, but it was suitable for releasing Freya’s anger.

Freya raised her staff towards the sky. The ancient tree staff, made from the branches of the World Tree, condensed an ominous green light, and then, with a dull sound, a giant spherical wave spread out.

Following its trajectory, the barrier melted away like salt in water. The truth revealed through the hole in the sky was thousands more dragons… and a black sky.

    “A black sky?”

Freya frowned. She had seen magic that turned the sky black in a magic book, but she hadn’t paid much attention to it and couldn’t remember.

But that wasn’t the important part. After all, magic dissipates when the caster is killed. More importantly, she had to deal with those annoying dragons first.

“Haha, no wonder… I thought they were just flying around randomly, but they were hiding a commander.”

Relatively small dragons and their formations led by a large dragon, and above all, a colossal dragon with six pairs of wings soaring gracefully and looking down on the academy.

Those dragons were hiding them with illusions.

This is clearly a planned invasion. The perpetrator is likely that large dragon.

If the head is killed, the body naturally disintegrates, but it was too high for magic to reach.

    Then….

    “You guys die first.”

Freya extended her tree trunks and pierced the necks of the large dragons. With the commanders impaled like skewers and dangling, the small dragons began to panic and scatter.

Perhaps it was because they were counterattacked in a place they thought was safe, the confusion seemed to be escalating.

“Serves you right, you stupid lizard bastards.”

The dragons frantically tried to restore the magic barrier using magic, but the green light encroaching on the barrier’s edges continued to melt it with crackling sounds, hindering the restoration.

A magic that maintained itself by consuming the barrier’s magic, while also continuously melting the barrier, like a virus. Freya let out a sinister laugh, seeing the power of the magic she had created.

“Come to think of it, I learned something from Mom….”

As Freya slammed her staff onto the ground, a massive green wave spread out once more. Upon contact with the wave, the dragons’ heads were enveloped in green light, and then the dragons began to fight each other fiercely.

Breathes unleashed in the air. They hit each other and fell to the ground.

“Heh heh… Then, it’s time to find my sister….”

    “Help me!”

“What? Damn it, this is annoying….”

Freya, who was slaughtering dragons from the air using tree trunks as platforms, frowned and headed towards the source of the sound. A commoner girl was trapped under debris, and next to her, a girl who seemed to be her friend was stamping her feet helplessly.

The heavy debris crushing the girl’s leg was easily lifted by a tree trunk extended by Freya. The girl, who stood up limping with the help of her friend, groaned in pain from her crushed leg.

    “Be quiet, be quiet!”

    “Ah… Th-thank you.”

Freya instantly healed the leg with healing magic. The girl, whose leg was miraculously restored, was surprised and bowed repeatedly to express her gratitude.

Then, a thin green thread pierced the ears of the students.

“Thanks are unnecessary. Once you get to a safe place, just have some naked lesbian sex.”

    “Yes….”

They are commoners, so it’s probably okay to play such a prank for bothering me.

The girls, with dazed eyes, evacuated to a safe place. Freya grinned and whistled, then climbed a tree trunk into the sky to search for her sister.

The academy was a complete ruin. Numerous dragons flew above it, and through the hole in the sky, a completely black sky and even more dragons were visible. It was a scene of utter apocalypse.

“Ah… what magic was that black sky? I definitely know it….”

She definitely knew it, but she couldn’t remember. It was like trying to recall a word on the tip of her tongue; the frustration of the answer being so close yet so far made Freya uneasy.

    Then….

    “-Ngh.”

Beyond the hole, at the highest point, a dragon with six pairs of wings was leisurely flying.

    It glared at Freya.

Her body trembled. Freya hastily moved the tree trunk she was riding to create distance. Seeing this, the dragon snorted and began to leisurely glide through the sky again.

It was clearly a gaze that looked down on something inferior.

Freya raised her middle finger and shouted.

“You damn… As a monster, you’re no match for my sister! Hey!”

Perhaps because the giant dragon did something, the virus magic Freya had planted in the barrier began to slowly lose its light and fade. At the same time, the hole that had been pierced in the barrier closed again.

“… Tsk, did they reinforce it?”

In that short time, the barrier had thickened, making it even more impossible to know what was beyond. The existence of the barrier itself had become so faint that even Freya, who had been constantly looking at the sky, could barely perceive its presence.

It was so intricate that Freya even doubted if the hole in the sky had actually happened or if it was all a delusion. Freya shook her head.

“Once I find my sister, you’re all dead, you punk… Hmph.”

This grand barrier magic was experimental and had never been tested in the field. If such a thing could be overcome by the appearance of the boss, there was no need to consider how weak the dragons’ forces were.

Even that somewhat threatening giant dragon would fall powerless before my sister’s strength. Although I don’t know where my sister is or what she’s doing.

Freya began to roam the academy, riding tree trunks to find her sister, who would solve all these problems.
