11. The Result of My Killing Spree (1)
by Shini
Every third or fourth house growls.
While occasionally hearing low growls, I walked through the quiet alley and returned to the boarding house.
What should I do with those corpses in front of the supermarket?
…I find it bothersome to do it myself.
Opening the gate and entering, the yard is peaceful.
Where’s Soo-hyeon? Is she at home?
Listening carefully, I hear some chattering from upstairs.
I also hear some thumping sounds.
…It seems to be coming from the attic?
What’s she doing near my room?
I’ll just go up and bring her the diapers.
Knock knock.
After a moment, I hear some movement from inside the newlywed’s room.
The door opens, and a married woman holding a baby comes out.
“Ah… Hello.”
“Yes, here you go.”
I thrust the diapers at her.
The married woman looks surprised but takes the diapers.
Her expression seems to brighten a bit?
“Thank you.”
“Sure. Is your husband not here?”
“Ah, yes. He said there’s no shampoo…”
“I see. When he comes back, please tell him to stay here and not go out.”
Saying that, I head up to the roof.
Peeking through the gap in the newlywed’s door, I see that the room is quite full. There’s a makeshift shelf with clothes hanging, baby toys, snacks, chocolate, and ramen stacked up.
The middle-aged man must be working hard.
Now that I think about it, the side dishes this morning were pretty good.
He must be diligently bringing supplies to the landlord too.
When I get to the roof, I see three women squatting on the ground.
There are some wooden planks on the ground where the clothesline is set up…
They look like pieces of furniture that have been dismantled?
“Ah, big brother.”
Soo-hyeon waves at me when she sees me.
Ye-eun and So-eun turn to look at me and nod in greeting.
I guess I’ve seen them so much that I don’t really mind the blood on my body anymore.
I nod and ask:
“Hey. What are you doing?”
“Big brother, we’re going to put these up on the attic window. Ye-eun and So-eun are helping me. This is from So-eun’s wardrobe.”
“Oh, really?”
Ye-eun and So-eun are looking at me.
They seem quite cheerful.
The expression I saw at the convenience store is nowhere to be found.
They must have been quite comfortable living here for a few days. They even come out without hesitation.
“But big brother, you’re back early? Did you finish your business?”
Soo-hyeon groans as she stands up and says:
I shrug my shoulders.
“I cleaned up the supermarket.”
“Already?”
“Yeah. I’ll rest a bit, then clean up the hardware store, and sweep the large supermarket clean.”
Aaaaah-
A scream is heard from a distance.
Ye-eun and So-eun turn to look in that direction.
Their faces are tense.
But Soo-hyeon doesn’t seem to mind much.
“Wow… Aren’t you scared to go around like that alone?”
“What’s there to be afraid of?”
I chuckle and enter the attic.
“I’m going to rest.”
“Okay, I’ll call you for lunch. Ye-eun said she’ll make chicken curry for lunch.”
Oh, curry is good.
I nod at Ye-eun and enter the attic.
I wash off the blood in the shower and flop onto the futon.
I have 5 accelerations left.
But I’m feeling a bit drained.
Currently, the most helpful person in this house is Soo-hyeon, followed by the large man.
The large man is diligently carrying supplies and filling the house, so bringing him here was a good decision.
If not, I would have had to carry everything myself.
There’s no need to say anything about Soo-hyeon.
The house is almost impenetrable now.
With each passing day, this place is becoming more like a fortress.
Now that Ye-eun and So-eun are helping too, I can just leave it to them.
My job is to level up.
To get stronger quickly.
That’s the most important thing for me.
While getting stronger, I can clear the way for Soo-hyeon to work comfortably and for the large man to carry supplies easily.
To make the hardware store safe, we need to completely clear out the hair salon and McDonald’s nearby.
I’ll finish McDonald’s today.
Starting tomorrow, we’ll raid the large supermarket.
Lying down, I suddenly wonder:
How long can I keep leveling up?
What’s the max level?
What do the other stats do?
They must have their own purposes.
How strong can I become?
While thinking about this, my strength has recovered to 8.
Hmm, good.
This should be enough for the hair salon…
Just as I’m about to get up, there’s a knock at the door.
I get up and open it to see the large man.
He’s sweating profusely, having worked hard since morning.
“Sir, I saw the diapers you brought. Thank you very much, sir.”
Hmm.
He looks quite happy.
The large man says:
“Did you need me, sir?”
“Ah, yes.”
I was about to speak when I glanced to the side.
The three women are hammering and chatting.
…Hmm…
“Just a moment.”
I gesture for the large man to follow me and approach the women.
“Hey, girls.”
The women turn to look at me.
I say:
“Let’s go to the supermarket.”
The women look at each other, puzzled.
Ye-eun asks cautiously:
“…Can… can we go out…?”
“It’s fine. I’ve killed them all. And someone is cleaning up the corpses.”
Soo-hyeon, with wide eyes, asks:
“The corpses? Who?”
I shrug my shoulders.
“I don’t know. They’re from an inline skating club. There are six of them. They asked if they could share some of the supplies inside, so I told them to. They’re cleaning up the corpses.”
The women look at each other, unable to find words to respond.
I chuckle and say:
“Don’t worry. The streets are safe. I’ll let others take what they need. Get up.”
As I start down the stairs, the women quickly get up and follow me.
Ye-eun and So-eun go into the landlord’s room, calling out for the grandmother.
They’re probably telling her they’re going out.
“Don’t worry. We’ll be back soon.”
Waiting in the courtyard downstairs, I see Ye-eun and So-eun come out of the house.
The large man, looking anxious, looks around at the women and says:
“Is… is the house… safe…?”
Soo-hyeun pats the large man’s back.
“Look at how we’ve blocked the windows. No one can get in unless we open the door. It’s sealed tight.”
“Ah, yes.”
Still worried, the large man peeks into his room and calls out:
“Honey, I’ll be back soon. Don’t open the door for anyone else, okay?”
A voice from inside replies, “Okay, be back soon.”
Her voice is definitely brighter now.
Compared to a few days ago, it’s a significant improvement.
“Let’s go.”
As we walk down the alley, we see four old gangsters lying dead on the street.
“…Ugh.”
So-eun covers her mouth.
Soo-hyeon says:
“Ah, this is the smell. I thought someone had pooped nearby.”
I snicker at the gangsters’ corpses.
“Just some idiots. Don’t worry about it.”
“…Ugh.”
So-eun looks like she’s about to vomit.
The large man scratches his head and says:
“I’ll… I’ll clean these up later.”
…Hmm.
That’s quite helpful.
I pat the large man’s shoulder, pleased with his offer, and we head towards the supermarket.
After about 5 minutes of walking, we reach the parking lot.
And, kururur- kururur- the sound of inline skates rolling and people chatting can be heard.
Turning into the squid shop, we see six people sitting on the ground.
Next to them are empty drink bottles and energy bar wrappers.
The corpses that were piled up at the entrance are gone.
These people must have cleaned them up.
They seem to have worked hard and are now resting.
The ponytail woman stands up when she sees us.
She’s drenched in sweat.
“Ah, you’re here. You all came.”
I nod and look through the automatic doors.
While there are still a few corpses lying around, the entrance area seems mostly cleared.
“You’ve done a lot. It must have been heavy work.”
They must have carried 50kg, 60kg, 70-80kg bodies.
Even with six people, it’s natural to be tired.
“Yes, we’re just resting a bit. Who are these people…?”
I gesture behind me and say:
“They’re with me. Survivors.”
Soo-hyeon walks forward with a confident smile.
“Hello. I’m Soo-hyeon. Are you the inline skating club members? I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Heard a lot, indeed.
I chuckle.
Soo-hyeon is quite friendly, even when we first met.
It’s hard to believe she was a hikikomori.
She must have really loved games.
“Ah, nice to meet you. I’m Eun-seo. Jung Eun-seo.”
As the two women shake hands, the large man looks at the entrance and says:
“You were cleaning up the corpses, right…? I’ll help too.”
The inline skating club members smile at him.
“Thank you. We’re just resting now, but you can join us later.”
…Hmm…
Even though we’re meeting for the first time, there’s a strange sense of camaraderie among survivors.
As long as they don’t act like those old gangsters, it’s natural for survivors to be glad to see each other in such situations.
“Take what you need and go back the way you came. Don’t go anywhere else.”
Just as I’m about to turn around, Soo-hyeon grabs my hand.
“Big brother, where are you going?”
“To kill the things at the hardware store. That way, you can safely get what you need.”
Actually, to level up.
My acceleration is almost fully charged.
Jung Eun-seo, the ponytail woman, says:
“You’re going again after this morning? Wow… What’s your name?”
Soo-hyeon glances at me and smiles at Jung Eun-seo.
“Our big brother’s name is Han Seong-hun.”
“Ah, Seong-hun. What did you do before? To kill so many with just a sword… and you’re going somewhere else too…”
The large man straightens up and says:
“Seong-hun helped us too. He’s amazing. Really.”
……Ah, I’m blushing.
It’s a bit embarrassing to hear this.
“You weren’t joking about being a Sword Master, right? You must have trained in something like kendo, right?”
Jung Eun-seo asks.
Well…
I’m at a loss for words.
I can’t say I killed them by moving super fast using a skill…
I shrug and say:
“I’m going. See you later.”
“Ah, Seong-hun.”
Just as I’m about to walk away, Jung Eun-seo calls out to me.
Ah, what now?
