01. Becoming an Adventurer.
+++
The woman who became my guardian is a person named ‘Lee Yuna’, a guild member of the all-women guild ‘Spicy Ribs Restaurant’.
At first, I thought my adventurer life was screwed because such a weird person became my guardian, but surprisingly, she’s handling her responsibilities quickly and efficiently.
“This is a bow for beginners. Usually, people who’ve learned useless romance from movies or games start using swords from the beginning, but they end up getting their necks pierced and dying within an hour, so don’t use swords.”
Yuna handed me a crude bow and a quiver.
If you ask why we’re using this in the modern era, it’s because modern weapons don’t work inside dungeons. Only cold weapons imbued with ‘magi’ can damage the monsters inside dungeons. In other words, only equipment dropped from dungeons or weapons made from byproducts work.
“Yu-eun-ssi’s role is to shoot arrows from behind while I’m drawing aggro in front. That’s how you accumulate experience and level up.”
“B-But I’ve never shot a bow before? What if I hit Yuna-ssi instead….”
“Do you think I’d get hurt by an arrow shot by a beginner? I’m not playing the role of a guardian for nothing, so don’t worry about that.”
Unexpected.
A somewhat responsible person… maybe?
She rummaged around and handed me something else.
“This is leather armor for beginners. It only has 1 defense, so don’t rely on it too much.”
Like a mother, she took care of this and that, then suddenly held out the leather armor.
“Okay, I’ll put it on for you, so spread your arms.”
“Huh???”
W-Wait a minute.
She’s going to put it on me? What is she talking about??
Seeing my surprised expression, she sighed, “Haa.”
“Don’t misunderstand. It’s annoying. You can’t put on this kind of armor by yourself at first.”
“Ah… I see….”
“This is why I said I hate men.”
She grumbled and put the armor on me.
It was quite complicated, but I think I can put it on myself next time.
After roughly equipping the armor, she started rattling off explanations again.
“As I said before, your role for the time being is to support from behind. Don’t go out and draw aggro and die, just do as I tell you. Got it?”
“Yes.”
“And when you level up and accumulate stats, you’ll get a job, but although it varies from person to person, I personally think a ranged job is better.”
“Why?”
“The first reason is that the mortality rate for melee jobs is overwhelmingly high, and the second reason is that it’s easier. Accuracy issues will be resolved with time and stats, and judgment will improve with experience, but dealing with monsters snarling with hideous faces right in front of you is not easy to get used to.”
“Maybe… What job is Yuna-ssi?”
“I’m a warrior.”
“…You’re a melee fighter yourself.”
“I’m not a beginner. And I have a clear motive.”
She clenched her fist tightly.
“Beating up Han-nams! If you think of monsters as disgusting Han-nams, strength you didn’t even know you had will suddenly surge up. Hehe.”
“….”
I knew it, this woman is hopeless….
“Anyway, get a ranged job if possible, and if you really want to do melee, join a guild and get professional training. If you don’t want to die.”
“…Yes.”
Well. I don’t really have any fantasies about melee combat.
What’s important to me is this.
Getting stronger and building a harem!
.
.
Yuna rattled off various explanations, gave me basic supplies, and then immediately headed to the dungeon.
‘Let’s go right away since time is precious. Let’s just get a light taste today.’
She’s burning with enthusiasm, but it’s slightly different from what I heard from the guide noona.
I heard that there are quite a few people who do it half-heartedly because the reward doesn’t increase even if they do their guardian role diligently, but this person seems to be doing it properly. Even though she’s a feminazi….
For reference, dungeons exist in various countries around the world, and the difficulty varies greatly.
There are a total of 7 dungeons in Korea, 4 of which are in Seoul.
The place I’m at now is the dungeon with the lowest difficulty in Korea, located in Hannam-dong, Seoul. Of all places, it’s named Hannam-dong… Is that why it became the base of Spicy Ribs Restaurant?
There were quite a few people stationed at the dungeon entrance.
There were various restaurants and shopping districts, and adventurers exploring the dungeon, but most of them were soldiers.
They can’t enter the dungeon, but they can deal with the monsters that come out, so military units are stationed here. Well, unless a new dungeon is created, monsters don’t come out often….
Bleep.
Bleep.
There’s something like a subway ticket gate at the entrance, and you can pass through by scanning your ID card. And….
Chuck.
“Please come back alive.”
I receive salutes from the surrounding soldiers.
Ah, this is kind of scary.
“Keep your wits about you.”
She warned with a stern face and drew her sword.
It’s a pretty good-looking weapon. It can’t be compared to what I’m holding, right?
“As I said before, I’m repeating it because it’s important. Don’t go out and draw aggro. You’ll really get rekt. Got it?”
“Yes.”
How many times is she going to say it? I’m not an idiot, I can handle that much….
“Move!!”
At that moment, three men came running from the front, carrying someone on their backs. They’re moving incredibly fast.
Yuna immediately stepped aside and pushed my chest with her hand, throwing me back.
“Uwak!”
Almost simultaneously.
The men passed by me with a whoosh.
I think some blood dripped.
“Tsk tsk. How pathetic.”
Yuna looked at the men’s backs and clicked her tongue.
Saying “pathetic” to an injured person… isn’t that a bit too much?
I feel a slight surge of anger.
“Let’s go. Oh, and that kind of thing happens quite often, so if you see it, move to the side as quickly as possible. If you hesitate and the patient dies, it’ll ruin your mood and cause a fight.”
“Yes….”
“You should consider yourself lucky that I’m Yu-eun-ssi’s guardian. If you had met a Han-nam who had no skills and was full of bluster as a guardian, you would have ended up like that beginner you just saw. They’d be careless and half-assed, thinking it’s a beginner dungeon, and then they’d let you die. Stupid bastard.”
“Ah… so the ‘pathetic’ was….”
“That guardian. If you don’t have the skills, you shouldn’t do it. It’s the same with companies. To have such an idiot as a guardian. Even if there’s a shortage of manpower. I guess it’s because he’s a Han-nam. His work is just….”
She endlessly complained.
Fortunately(?), it seems she wasn’t saying “pathetic” to the injured person, but I still wouldn’t say her personality looks good….
Jeobeok jeobeok.
I wonder if we walked for about 5 minutes.
The narrow entrance doesn’t show any signs of widening.
Moreover, the floor is uneven like a cave, which is quite annoying.
“If you move quickly in a place like this, your soles will get torn up, won’t they?”
“Yes. It’s easy to do with poor equipment.”
She answered casually and looked around.
Fortunately, there are torches in various places, so the visibility is quite good.
“I’ll tell you now. This dungeon has a total of 5 floors. The first floor mainly has stray dogs, and if you go down to the second floor, there are grotesque little Han-nams.”
“Little… Han-nams?”
“Goblins. They’re ugly, just like Han-nams.”
“Ah, okay….”
“And on the 3rd floor… wait.”
She was explaining as she walked, then suddenly raised her hand. I stopped reflexively.
“There are 10 stray dogs in front.”
“Huh? I can’t see them?”
“I can see them.”
She stretched out the long sword in her left hand and walked slowly.
“Don’t forget what I said earlier. Yu-eun-ssi’s role is to shoot arrows from behind. And don’t draw aggro.”
“Yes… but it’s too narrow, isn’t it?”
“Add one more thing. Don’t argue with me. There’s no time for that. Just do what I tell you.”
“…Yes.”
She’s really picky.
Anyway, I also picked up the bow and nocked an arrow.
The passage is narrow, so if I mess up… no, it’ll almost certainly fly towards Yuna-ssi… but let’s try it.
-Keureung!
A moment later, a pack of stray dogs started running from the front.
It’s as Yuna-ssi said.
“I’ll just defend. Use your bow to take care of them during that time.”
Repeating the words that had been repeated several times, she swung her sword.
The stray dogs that were running at her hesitated at the momentum.
“Sword Barrier!”
Could she block 10 stray dogs alone… that was an unnecessary worry.
The sword she swung haphazardly created a blue barrier and slammed into the dungeon floor with a bang.
-Keueong!
The stray dogs try to ram into it, but the barrier shows no signs of breaking.
‘This is amazing! Isn’t this just getting carried?’
I, who had been expecting a senior’s flashy battle, was completely deflated.
But….
‘If I have this kind of ability… I wouldn’t get hurt like that person earlier.’
I took a deep breath, looking at Yuna-ssi, who was glaring at the stray dogs with her sword lowered, and the pack of stray dogs going crazy in front of her.
Strangely, I’m not nervous.
My hands aren’t shaking.
I raise the bow,
Nock the arrow, draw the string, and aim.
Kkiiik.
The target is the stray dog on the very edge. It’s just growling and not actually attacking the barrier.
In other words, a stationary target.
I released the string towards that bastard.
Piyoong!
