by fnovelpiaAfter enduring a long leave of absence, the morning of the first day of classes finally arrived.
Struggling to shake off the pouring sleep, I sat in front of the laptop borrowed from Jaehyuk.
“…The first class is too harsh even for vampires.”
The time when vitality courses through a vampire’s body is from 6:30 in the evening to 6:30 in the morning.
There seemed to be some variations depending on the times of sunrise and sunset, but generally, strength seemed to peak from the evening when the sun disappears to the morning when it reveals itself.
As for other times…
“Ugh… I feel like I’m going to die from exhaustion…”
…I had weakened to the point where I couldn’t properly lift a finger.
Still, perhaps thanks to the blackout curtains already hung on the window, the room was as dark as night, making movement slightly more comfortable.
If regular curtains were hung… No, then maybe I would have burned to death from the sunlight streaming in?
Anyway, even though the first-period lecture was online, it was still too challenging.
If I had known it would be like this, I would have wished for “recorded online lectures.”
Taking a deep breath, I awaited the upcoming online lecture.
“Hello, everyone. I am Ih Hae-young, who will be leading the ‘Dendrology’ course with you.”
“This course will focus on trees, or ‘dendro’ in Greek, so we will delve into the details about trees…”
“As this subject requires a lot of hands-on practice, once the guidelines come down from the university headquarters, we will schedule practical sessions right away…”
Finally, the first online lecture that I had been waiting for was as dull as expected.
Unless they were exceptionally passionate professors, the first lecture usually ended with a simple orientation rather than actual teaching.
The professor in charge of Dendrology, like most professors, gave a brief explanation of the course to be conducted this semester before wrapping up.
“Since today is just an orientation, we’ll end the class here. Does anyone have any questions about the lecture?”
“Um…”
Koreans tend to look around when asking questions.
If someone had spoken up first, I might have asked more comfortably, but since no one did, I awkwardly raised my voice in the tense atmosphere.
“I heard there will be a lot of practical work. Will there be significant disadvantages if one does not participate in the practical sessions?”
“What’s your name?”
“Han Jiwoo.”
“Ah, Jiwoo. Disadvantages… Well, it may vary depending on the reasons. May I ask why you wouldn’t be attending the practical sessions?”
The professor’s polite inquiry.
After briefly contemplating whether to reveal everything, I slowly began to explain, knowing that the truth would eventually come out.
There was nothing to hide.
Being a victim of a large-scale species mutation disaster wasn’t something to boast about, but it wasn’t something so shameful that I couldn’t talk about it either.
To provide more concrete evidence, I turned on the laptop camera and calmly started explaining my situation.
“I am a victim of a large-scale species mutation disaster. Since practical sessions are held during the day, and I belong to a species that cannot go outside during the day…”
[…]
Although I conveyed the facts methodically, the professor seemed skeptical.
Why, does it sound like a lie? Haven’t you ever seen a species that dies when exposed to sunlight? Huh?!
…Well, I guess you wouldn’t have seen such a fucked-up species anywhere else.
Waiting quietly for him to speak, the professor soon broke the silence.
“So, you’re participating in the class now?”
“In truth, as a nocturnal species, I’m not in great shape. But I still need to explain my circumstances…”
“Alright, I understand for now. Let’s think about the direction of the course after finishing the lecture. Do you have any other questions, Jiwoo?”
“I don’t… Ugh, I’m, I’m sorry! Professor!”
“It’s okay, it happens. Hehe.”
Hearing his understanding laughter, I quickly turned off the microphone and camera.
I’m going crazy, seriously. Even if you’re tired, what’s the deal with yawning so blatantly?
But the feeling of embarrassment quickly disappeared.
The reason was simple.
As my body felt heavy, I leaned back on the bed for a moment, and my vision went dark just like that.
Drifting into unconsciousness rapidly.
Thinking about the upcoming class, I set my alarm.
Yeah, just gonna sleep for an hour.
Since the alarm is set, there’s no way I won’t wake up, right?
Comfortably drifting off to sleep, but when I opened my eyes again.

Even passing goblins were laughing as they left, seeing my attendance sheet from another world completed.
Damn it… My attendance sheet is already screwed up, isn’t it?

Thanks to this hybrid species, some subjects have switched to online recorded lectures lol

It was the first day of classes, and I was cursing since the 1st period lecture.
But they said we’d only have orientation and then be done until the next class, so I was thinking of taking a nap until the following lesson.
When the professor asked if anyone had questions about the lecture, I was like, who even wonders about that nowadays? I was praying for no one to ask any questions.
But damn, someone boldly asked… If there are consequences for not participating in the practical sessions.
I was laughing, thinking it was a joke… but that person was the hybrid species.
They said they shouldn’t go out during the day because they were that species, and mentioned that it’s actually hard to participate in real-time online lectures.
After hearing that, the professor said understood, and after the lecture, an announcement was made three hours later.
(Announcing that they will proceed with online recorded lectures in the future)
They said it’s only until further instructions come down, it’s really awesome lol
That professor must have convinced other professors too because announcements for several subjects about online recorded lectures came up.
Ah, [Hybrid Species], he’s a god…

– Seriously jealous of you, Suni… We have practicals right after the next class…
– Why don’t we have any hybrid species in our department? This is discrimination against departments without hybrid species, damn it.
– SMH… It was kind of comedic lol The professor’s expression change was really extreme.
– But seriously, they were pretty. Like, can’t even compare to most girl groups? (Commenter)
– Me too… Online recorded lectures… damn it…

After waking up from a nap, once again, many things had changed.
Half of the subjects in real-time face-to-face lectures had turned into recorded lectures, and a notice was posted stating that those affected by the hybrid transformation have valid reasons for not participating in practicals.
For someone like me who finds it difficult to attend classes and practicals, this was fantastic news.
It does make me wonder if it’s too accommodating to one person, but well… good things are good, right?
“…I should look for another path for next semester, considering we don’t know how things will turn out.”
It’s confusing now due to the recent hybrid transformation crisis, but by the time next semester rolls around, the confusion should settle, and clear guidelines will emerge.
It’s a fact that many can’t suffer for the sake of a few, so it was evident that attending university would become more challenging after this semester ends.
It’s regrettable about the tuition fees paid and the time spent, but what can you do? There’s nothing to be gained by holding onto them.
Sorting through the clutter in my room, I uttered with a puzzled voice.
“…But seriously, why a vampire?”
Considering I’m in a nature-related department, wouldn’t it make more sense to become a druid or an elf?
No matter how much I think about it, there seems to be no connection to vampires. Pausing my tidying up, I looked puzzled, and Jaehyuk, who had come to help clean the room, chuckled teasingly.
“Why, you actually suit it quite well.”
“…What exactly makes you say that?”
“Likes the dark, dislikes moving around and going outside. Aren’t you just perfect for that?”
“Wanna die?”
Sharp as a knife, he coughed awkwardly and quickly changed the subject.
“Hey, but I have a serious question to ask.”
“…What?”
“Why the hell are you wearing my clothes? The trunk underwear and shirt you’re wearing now, aren’t they mine?”
“Is that so?”
Shrugging his shoulders, he continued as if to say, “So what?”
“I didn’t have any other clothes to change into, so I just put these on for now. What, don’t you like it?”
“…”
“If you don’t like it, then just walk around naked. It’s guy to guy anyway, what’s the big deal.”
As I casually tried to take off the shirt, he quickly stopped me in my tracks.
“…Stop.”
“Huh?”
“I said stop because it’s fine! I’ll allow it, so just keep wearing it!”
“Why are you getting mad? What did I do?”
“That…! Ugh, never mind. Speaking up will only hurt me.”
“What’s wrong, really.”
Although he looked curious, Jaehyuk just shook his head without saying a word.
The surefire way to anger a Korean: ‘speak and then shut up.’
Feeling frustrated after a long time, I pressed him again, but he checked the time, mentioning it was time to go to work, and hurriedly left.
“I’ve helped enough by giving you this room. You should be able to manage on your own from here, right?”
“To be honest, just giving me a room was more than enough. As a thank you, I’ll buy you a meal later.”
“Rather than a meal, why don’t you go with Hyeun and buy some clothes first? That would be more helpful for me.”
“Yeah, I can’t keep stealing your clothes to wear. And I only have yesterday’s outfit for going out, which is inconvenient.”
I guess I’ll have to go buy clothes when I have some free time tomorrow or the day after.
I should contact Hyeun and make plans.
Lost in thought about what clothes to buy, we suddenly arrived at the entrance.
Smiling brightly, I waved goodbye to him.
“Take care.”
“…Sure.”
He must have helped with cleaning the room too diligently; there was no trace of radish on his face as he left.
It’s still early spring.
Was it really that hot?
