by fnovelpiaAll living things have a desire to survive. From basic needs like eating to the need for safety.
What people commonly call food, clothing, and shelter are probably like that. You could say that clothing is not essential for survival, but for humans who do not have hair all over their body or thick skin, it is a tool for keeping warm and is also like a defensive device to block external attacks.
Anyway, having a home is something that we instinctively like. That’s why young children also play around by making hiding places and such.
The ultimate goal would be to build the house I live in myself. Even if I don’t procure the building materials myself, I can say that I built it just by assembling it.
“Wow… … . I still don’t understand this even after reading the manual.”
“Hehe, I’ll make it!”
“Okay? Then I’ll go play with Na-min’s phone. I have some stuff to put down.”
Especially now that Narin is not used to making things, and is confused even after looking at the instructions. Can’t we say that I am making my own house?
Today I am an architect.
Originally, this was made from the ground up. After laying the concave board on the ground, the transparent plastic board that will become the outer wall was clicked into place on top of it.
After attaching the partition that seemed to divide the first and second floors, I added another wall that interlocks with one of the walls I had erected.
Then, the interior construction begins. We make a hamster wheel for Hamshik to play with, and we make a house-shaped cage that just needs to be covered, and put it on the first and second floors.
Then there are two rooms now. One is Hamshik’s room, and one is mine. Let’s play rock-paper-scissors later to decide.
Hamshik has four fingers, so shouldn’t he be able to play rock-paper-scissors?
I was planning to put the small bed that Narin had prepared separately after deciding on a room with Hamshik.
I divided the floors, put a hamster wheel on the second floor, put a slide connecting the two floors, and made a maze on the first floor, and that’s the end of the interior.
Then I covered the remaining two sides, placed the cylinder connected to the outside, and the round sphere at the end, and that was it, the house that Hamshik and I would live in was complete.
If you lay down flooring on each floor that looks like it was cut and gently torn from wood, you can create a two-story house that is just as good as any country house.
It is a very large house that reaches up to Narin’s knees.
Actually, since Narin’s house is our house, it might be more correct to say that we just made a separate room for ourselves rather than calling it a house. After all, our living space is Narin’s room.
Still, I was proud that we had made a home for ourselves, so I opened and closed the door and bragged to Narin.
“Sister, I made it all!”
“Already? Wow, Na-min is really good with her hands? My sister also almost finished Na-min’s phone. Oh, she’s all set up.”
Maybe it was curiosity that aroused the noise of our voices in the quiet outside, where everyone was absorbed in their own work except for the clicking sound.
The hamster that was in the box came out quietly and ran to the house I had made.
It seemed like a house that he was envious of. So I blocked the door and said to Hamshik.
“Oh, Hamshik, there’s something you have to decide before you go in here. 1st floor, 2nd floor. Who’s going to use which?”
Hamshik couldn’t understand what I was saying, but when I pointed to the upper and lower houses with my hand, Hamshik’s head moved following my hand.
Hamsters like dark places, so wouldn’t they go to the first floor where there is shade hidden by the second floor flooring?
Or maybe they go up to the second floor because they feel safer in higher places. Oh, maybe their instinct is to dig and hide.
Oh, and maybe the first floor space is a bit higher, maybe to increase the flooring so that the hamster can dig a hole and use it as a hiding place?
Just as I was thinking about asking for another bag of sawdust to put down more, Hamshik entered the house and ran in one direction without hesitation.
Not the house on the first floor, nor the slide to the second floor. It’s a maze that I made by following the instructions.
“Uh… …. Is it more comfortable there than at home?”
It would definitely be darker inside the house. And with the soft, fluffy sawdust on the floor, it would be warmer and more comfortable. I didn’t know why they had to go into the maze.
I wasn’t worried about getting lost. Hamshik was a bit smart, so I guess he could find the exit and get out.
It’s a maze to begin with, it’s just a series of small rooms divided into nine sections. The fact that it’s divided into two floors makes it a bit more complicated?
But if Hamshik really gets lost, you can just separate the outer wall, lift it out, and take Hamshik out.
Just, why do you have to go through all the trouble of choosing a house and then going into a maze? He has to choose a house so I can decide where to put my bed.
“Ah, I don’t know. I’ll put my bed on the second floor. Hamshik’s house is on the first floor.”
Anyway, I gave him a choice, so he turned it down. So this time, it’s my choice.
So I quickly scooped up the bed and went up to the second floor. The slide was literally slippery, but bare feet didn’t slide that easily.
Instead of stairs, I went up the slide and went into the house on the second floor, where I briefly separated the ceiling and put a bed inside.
It was a house that was half full with just a bed. Well, since this was a real house, I wouldn’t be adding a kitchen or a closet, so just a bed would be fine.
And I lay down on it. Oh, how long has it been since I laid down on this bed? Oh, is this the first time in this life?
I’ve slept on a pile of trash when it was thrown away, or on the stomachs of other rats or birds, but I think this is the first time I’ve slept on something that’s completely my own bed.
As soon as I thought about that, my mind suddenly felt at ease. I felt like this was really the house I could live in. I laid down on the soft and fluffy blanket and laughed.
But is it because my body hasn’t warmed up yet? Or is it because I just came home from the cold outside? It’s still a bit cold.
Just as I was about to calm down from my excitement, I heard a rustling sound outside. If Narin had moved, it would have made a louder sound than that.
As expected, it was Hamshik who came crawling in. He kept sniffing around, perhaps because the smell of the house and the bed was unfamiliar to him.
“This is my house. Your house is one block down.”
If Hamshik wanted to write here, I would have to go down since we couldn’t communicate. I didn’t want to bother moving the bed, so I just lay down and grumbled.
If you’re going to come home, come home early. Did you go out to play with the maze and come home with me?
Whether I grumbled or not, Hamshik would sneak up next to my bed. That soft, fluffy, warm, and fluffy texture that seemed worthy of all the nice words, made my heart soften.
Yeah, I wonder what he knew to come here. He probably came here because he likes me.
There was no need to distinguish between your house and mine. You could just sleep together when you wanted to, and sleep separately when you were hot.
So I hugged Hamshik too. For some reason, I felt sleepy.
“Okay, Namin-ah. I’ll teach you how to use a cell phone… … . Oh, are you asleep? I’ll have to teach you tomorrow.”
It seemed as if someone was talking outside. My mind was getting more and more dizzy, and the voice sounded like a whisper.
I slept like that this morning, and I slept like that again after lunch. Is sleep always lacking?
Or maybe you’re just feeling sleepy because the warm bed is nice. You took a shower and you’re feeling drowsy. If you sleep now, you can wake up later and have fun.
I dozed off like that. That I was sleeping was something I realized when I came to.
Somehow, the seat next to me felt a little cold. Maybe it was because I slept without a blanket, even though the boiler was on in Narin’s house.
Oh, Hamsik isn’t here. Maybe he went on another adventure while I was sleeping. That’s right, hamsters are nocturnal.
I thought I was just spinning a wheel, but I didn’t hear any creaking or turning sounds. It didn’t seem like I was going around a maze or anything, either, because I didn’t hear any rustling sounds.
Then, did he go somewhere else to sleep? Did he sleep next to me because he wanted to stay with me until I fell asleep?
My heart ached. They say hamsters have a strong individualistic tendency. Maybe Hamshik overcame that instinct and stayed with me for me.
I should treat Hamshik better from now on. The moment I thought that, I heard a scratching sound and went out of the house.
Maybe it was because it was the middle of the night, but the surroundings were pitch dark. I could clearly see Hamshik scratching at the plastic door entrance. Then, at my sound, he turned his head and met my eyes.
“You’re caught. Were you trying to run away?”
“Tick tick.”
Hamshik is usually quiet unless he screams in surprise. For some reason, Hamshik started squeaking urgently as if responding to what I said.
It wasn’t that loud, so I wasn’t worried that it would wake up Narin. But why would she suddenly want to go out?
I tilted my head there and reached out through the hole in the door to unlock it. As soon as I did, Hamshik opened the door and ran out of the house.
“Ah, where did the ham go!”
I didn’t know that he would suddenly jump out like that, so I was startled and ran after Hamshik. Was he hungry? Come to think of it, I don’t think I gave him any food separately when I came in the evening.
If I’m really hungry, should I wake up Narin and feed her something? I usually try not to wake her up, but food is a big deal.
But where Hamshik headed was not the kitchen where the food was, but the bathroom. Of course, Hamshik had no way of knowing that the purpose of the kitchen was to store and cook food.
I wondered if there was any reason to go to the bathroom in such a hurry, so I followed Hamshik.
Hamshik climbed up the bathroom door and landed on the toilet. Then he heard a small thump, thump, thump sound.
“Ah. You really needed to go to the bathroom?”
Earlier, when I was in a hurry, he answered me with a squeak. After he finished his business, Hamshik pretended not to see me and jumped down from the toilet and went back home.
That’s why they say that your mind is different when you go to the bathroom and when you come out.
