Special Episode 2. Pursuit.
The survivors, having fended off the zombies’ attacks all night, woke up around noon and prepared to leave the shelter. Led by Kim Hwan-tae-nim, the group of twenty ate a simple meal, packed their belongings, and slowly exited the shelter. A sense of bittersweetness and regret filled the faces of the survivors as they left the shelter they had grown fond of over the past fortnight. …But even if they were sad, they couldn’t stubbornly hold out in a place that would soon turn into a death trap.
Ji-hyuk also moved with the group of survivors, carrying a wooden spear made from a mop handle and a crude tin shield. Beside him, the slit-eyed woman, Lee Si-a-ssi, stuck to him like she was following her boyfriend. Perhaps that’s why she was marked as unfavorable by the women in the group.
Of course, Ji-hyuk also experienced some hazing. Even though it was only a difference of one or two weeks, as is common in the military, here too, that short time difference was given great significance.
Anyway, the group of survivors stood in two rows and walked and walked tirelessly towards the next shelter.
– That bitch’s ass in front is hot as fuck kekekekeke
– Ah, originally, in places like this, you gotta walk around with like ten women and fuck them, that’s the sweet life kekeke
– Ah, something feels kinda weird
– ???????????????
– Hey, my wife’s kinda weird keke, she feels different than usual keke
– Maybe she’s showering?? kekekeke
– No no no no no, I think she’s hiding something
– Maybe she caught on??
– There’s a high chance kekeke, ID-hyung, you got caught after giving out coupons before too kekeke
– kekekekekekekekekekekeke
– Does she look hot?
– Shit keke, would she look hot keke
– kekekekeke
– Maybe they planted an assassin here or something?? kekekeke To screw us over kekeke
– Shit, that’d be really creepy keke
– If the assassin is a female, that’d be so hot kekekekekekeke
– Crazy, but I suddenly have a bad feeling keke
– Just in case, be careful keke
…Assassin?
Hearing that word, Ji-hyuk suddenly felt a chill down his spine. If the wives really knew about their husbands’ transgressions, it seemed entirely possible that they would kill him, a participant, to screw them over.
– If there really is an assassin, there’s a high chance she’s female keke, would a male even go into their channel keke
– Agreed kekekeke
– If she’s female, let’s humiliate her kekekekekekekeke, then I’ll give you 100 coupons kekekekekekekeke, if I like her, I’ll give you 200 keke
– Shit, let’s go for a reverse gangbang kekekekekekekeke
– Are you sure??? Is there really one????
– Looking at my wife’s actions, there’s definitely something up kekekeke, you bitch keke, did she catch on to my slush fund???
– kekekekekekekekekekekeke
– Shit, then I’m really fucked kekekekekekeke
– Let’s reverse gangbang the old lady kekekekekekekekekekeke, so hot kekekeke
– ?????????????????????
– Since I’m gonna lose my slush fund anyway kekeke, let’s screw over my wife kekekekekekekeke, I’m betting all my slush fund kekekekekekekeke
– kekekekekekekekekekekeke
– But hyung-nims, are you sure there really is one? Then isn’t that a big deal? keke
– Shit, I don’t know keke, no turning back keke, a man goes straight ahead kekekekekekeke
– kekekeke, that’s why you’re living like that now kekekekekekeke
– Since we’re already making a mess, just do whatever the fuck you want kekekekekekekeke
Still, receiving a warning that there might be a participant targeting them was a great help.
There were two clues.
One was that there was a high chance it was female. And the other was that she would be openly targeting them.
Of course, the assassin wasn’t the only person to be wary of. Other participants would also try to eliminate their competitors. That’s why Ji-hyuk had no choice but to immerse himself even more in his act of being a loser. He couldn’t afford to raise suspicion and become a priority target for elimination.
Just then, Lee Si-a-ssi complained that she was too tired. Hearing that, Ji-hyuk also chimed in with her complaints. Of course, he didn’t say it outright, but grumbled loud enough for everyone to hear.
Then, a slightly senior man from behind told him to stop complaining and just walk. Lee Si-a-ssi seemed a little scared and immediately shut her mouth, but Ji-hyuk didn’t stop complaining.
“This fucker, telling me to shut up and walk. Does he think I’m not tired?”
As his voice grew louder, gazes poured in from the front. Kim Hwan-tae-nim gestured to one of the men, and he fell back a bit to stand next to Ji-hyuk and the young man.
“What’s going on?”
“No, this bastard keeps complaining that he’s tired. It’s fucking annoying.”
“Try to hang in there and walk. We still have a long way to go.”
“…Yes.”
Ji-hyuk answered with a sullen expression.
It was only after walking for quite a while longer that they finally took a break. Ji-hyuk deliberately mingled near the group of women, chattering away with a lecherous air. Naturally, that was even more grating to the men.
He even subtly flirted with a woman named Leica. She was a bit grimy from not being able to wash properly, but she still had considerable beauty. The men all seemed to secretly want to have a relationship with her.
“I’m a little tired. Can you just go away?”
However, Leica said coldly and pushed Ji-hyuk away mercilessly. As he awkwardly smiled and backed away, the men snickered with expressions that said, “Serves you right.”
Of course, not all the men were united as one. A fat, dull-looking man and a skinny, weak-looking man couldn’t fit in with the group of men and remained on the fringes.
Bingo.
Ji-hyuk thought that joining this group of losers would be perfect. At first, they seemed a little embarrassed when a very handsome man tried to hang out with them, but as he made lame jokes and acted like a loser, they quickly became friendly. Of course, Lee Si-a-ssi seemed reluctant to join them, but she had no choice since Ji-hyuk was there.
“Alright, let’s get going.”
After a short, sweet break, the group of survivors began marching again. The slit-eyed woman groaned from the start, saying that the soles of her feet were burning.
After repeating the cycle of walking and resting about two more times, the sun was slowly setting. Kim Hwan-tae-nim looked up at the sky and quickly told them to set up camp and get a good night’s sleep.
“We have to walk again all night to avoid the zombies. So get plenty of rest now.”
They wouldn’t have time to sleep soundly as the middle-aged man said, but they still had about two or three hours to spare.
The group of survivors lay down haphazardly on the ground. Exhausted and tired, they fell asleep as soon as they lay down.
…The night, which would soon become a cauldron of chaos, was approaching.
· · ·
Leica woke up before nightfall. The face of the survivor who had woken up from a short nap was still covered with fatigue that hadn’t been fully relieved. …But what could she do? If she didn’t move, she would die.
They roughly stuffed dried jerky into their mouths and moved again. They didn’t have enough food, so everyone would be in danger if they didn’t reach the shelter quickly.
“Let’s move quickly. Hurry.”
Kim Hwan-tae-nim urged the group to walk faster. They moved their heavy feet again and made their way through the darkness.
As the last rays of sunlight disappeared beyond the mountain ridge, the city became the world of zombies. The group was divided into four, each carrying a torch. It seemed that dividing the group like this would be much more efficient in dealing with unexpected situations….
“They’re coming. Everyone, take up your weapons.”
Zombies slowly began to approach from all directions. They were clearly familiar faces, but the survivors trembled with fear again. Especially now that there were no barricades.
A tense atmosphere gripped the group. They walked quickly, as if on alert. However, they couldn’t avoid the ones coming from the front. They had to break through them directly.
The experienced ones stood at the front and pushed back the approaching zombies with iron shields made from various scraps. And then, from the rear, they stabbed the fallen zombies in the head with spears and advanced forward.
Of course, the back wasn’t safe either. You never knew when a mutated zombie would suddenly fly in and attack.
So Leica, who was mixed in with the group at the back, was constantly on guard. As expected, before long, a winged zombie flew in like a grasshopper.
You bastardㅡ!
Leica swung her spear at the zombie bastard flying at her. The zombie, hit by the spear, tumbled to the ground and then got up again. But before it could fly again, another survivor’s spear pierced its head and killed it.
“Shit, that was fucking dangerous.”
But that wasn’t the only mutated zombie.
Winged zombies often popped out and harassed the group of survivors. Eventually, a part of one survivor’s head was bitten by one of their teeth.
“Sa, save me, I don’t want to dieeeeeeㅡㅡ!!”
The group coldly abandoned him. Thanks to that, they could buy some time.
Leica kept fending off the annoying zombies. Then, feeling frustrated that she seemed to be struggling alone, she turned around to look at the group following behind.
“You fuckers, fight tooㅡ! You fucking useless bastardsㅡ!”
She shouted as loud as she could, her eyes wide, as if reflecting her fierce temper. Especially the two men and women following right behind her caught her eye.
Kang Ji-hyuk and Lee Si-a-ssi.
The two of them followed closely behind Leica, trembling with fear in their eyes.
“You fucking bastardㅡ!”
Leica grabbed Ji-hyuk by the collar and shook him roughly back and forth.
“Fight properlyㅡ! Am I your lackey, huhㅡ?!”
“Ah, ah….”
However, Kang Ji-hyuk, as if consumed by fear, could only tremble and say nothing.
Useless bastardㅡ!
Just as she released his collar, a scream-like shout suddenly erupted from the front.
“Everyone, get out of the wayyyㅡㅡ!!”
It was the shout of the muscular middle-aged man, Kim Hwan-tae-nim.
Leica reflexively looked ahead and witnessed a huge figure rushing towards them with its massive body.
Ahㅡ.
She immediately dodged to the side. Zombies were blocking her way, but after swinging her spear a few times, a path to escape was quickly cleared.
The group scattered in all directions in an instant due to the charge of this giant mutated zombie with a hard shell. They tried to regroup, but this charging zombie charged at them again.
“You fuckerㅡ!”
In the end, the group was torn apart among the zombies. Divided into several groups, they had no choice but to find their own way to survive.
Four more people followed behind Leica. Kang Ji-hyuk and Lee Si-a-ssi, and the pig and anchovy duo.
They moved forward aimlessly to get as far away from the charging zombie’s sight as possible. They had no time to worry about where the road was now.
Shit shit shit shitㅡ!
Leica swung her spear wildly and broke through the front. Thanks to their hasty escape, the group of five managed to get far away from the charging zombie.
But they weren’t completely out of danger yet. The surroundings were still full of zombies, and the winged zombies flying around with a whirring sound kept attacking.
Leica wondered if she should just let these useless bastards die, but it seemed good to have some guys to do various chores.
Fortunately, as they moved far out of the city, the number of zombies noticeably decreased. …The problem was that they didn’t know where the shelter was. But that was a problem to think about later, and for now, securing safety was the priority.
“Can we, go a little slower, slowly.”
Lee Si-a-ssi, panting, asked that. Because Leica had moved almost running, the four people following behind her were completely exhausted. She glared at them with dissatisfied eyes and then slowed down her pace.
Still, the four people who followed her managed to survive without dying. Of course, Leica regretted that it would have been nice if one or two of them had died, but she didn’t want to kill them directly, so she didn’t take any action. …Anyway, none of these four seemed likely to live long.
“Let’s go over there for now.”
Leica pointed with her chin at the low hill visible over there. Of course, the remaining four, who had no decision-making power, just nodded in agreement.
Naturally becoming the leader of this fallen group, she walked confidently ahead. She even thought that it might be better to grow the group in this way and create a force. To win this game, she would need hunting dogs who listened well.
She slyly turned her head and glanced sideways at the four people following behind. Whether they were strong or weak, it was important to increase the number of people here, so it would be better to have even these loser scrubs.
“Is everyone okay? Did anyone get hurt? Did anyone get bitten by a zombie? …If you did, tell me quickly. If you hide it and get caught, you’ll get beaten to death and then die. Tell me when I say I’ll kill you nicely.”
“Uh, no one didㅡ!”
Kang Ji-hyuk shouted with a trembling voice. Leica raised the corner of her mouth crookedly and snorted.
“If you want to live, listen to me. Got it? If you don’t like it, leave. I won’t stop you.”
Of course, as expected, no one said they would leave. Leica scanned the faces of the four people once and gestured with her hand to go.
Sometimes, piercing screams could be heard from behind. Every time that happened, Lee Si-a-ssi would be startled and shiver.
They walked for a long time, but the sun didn’t rise easily.
…The night was much longer than expected.
