    33. Opening Gate

    +++

Tatar, a young man from Ishtar living in a border village.

He woke up from a deep sleep due to a roaring noise in the middle of the night.

He had never heard such a threatening sound in his life, so what on earth was happening?

Rumor had it that a large number of monsters had appeared north of the Reiser Kingdom, so could it be related?

Perhaps those monsters were crossing the border and attacking.

    “Mir, Mir!”

He shook his wife, who was fast asleep beside him, to wake her up.

She was such a heavy sleeper that she wouldn’t even notice if someone carried her away.

But when Tatar shook her roughly, she opened her eyes.

    “Uung…Tar…what’s wrong…?”

“It sounds like another battle has broken out in the border area. Let’s pack our bags just in case.”

    “Huh…?”

He had his wife pack their bags and went outside to assess the situation.

    Some villagers were already out.

    “That’s…!”

    Huge flames and ominous smoke.

    Tatar sensed it.

    They had to run.

He went back inside to help his wife pack.

“Again? Why are they always fighting like this?”

“Exactly. Don’t they ever think about us…!”

Most of the villagers seemed to be awake and preparing to evacuate.

As they were finishing their preparations and came out of the house, an unpleasant sound that tore through the air began to approach from afar.

    Tu-kwang!

And three or four poorly built houses instantly turned into piles of dust, scattering in all directions.

    “Kyaaaa!!”

Beyond the brutal destruction, a dozen or so carts of unknown origin appeared.

They were faster than horses, more majestic, and more powerful.

A woman shouted from atop one of the strangely shaped carts.

    “Everyone, freeze.”

    Perfect standard continental pronunciation.

    Not a hint of dialect.

    It almost felt too rigid.

The villagers were paralyzed with fear and surprise.

“From now on, anyone who moves without permission will be shot on sight.”

    Psychopath Han Sarang.

She was the one who ordered indiscriminate fire during the Spicy Ribs vs. Spicy Ribs Restaurant clash, killing over 100 civilians.

Normally, she looks like any other woman, but when she reveals her bloodlust like this, you can see why her epithet is so fitting.

“Shirley. Get all the villagers out and find out if anyone escaped.”

    “Yes, sir!”

Han Sarang’s unit searched every corner of the village, forcibly bringing people out, interrogating them to find out the total population of the village, the location of the food storage, and the locations of nearby villages or cities.

After about an hour of interrogation, Han Sarang gathered the villagers in one place.

There, the village chief, with a face full of fear, asked.

    “W-who are you people?”

    “None of your business.”

    The same answer as before.

The village chief shouted in frustration and fear.

“What did we do wrong to deserve this! Are you Reiser people? What are you trying to find fault with this time!!”

It seemed that this kind of hardship was frequent since it was a village on the border.

Sorrow and anger were clearly felt on his aged face.

But that had nothing to do with Han Sarang.

She didn’t care at all. She wasn’t even interested in the first place.

To her, the people living in this village, no, in this world, were just experience points to grow her warlordism and further the development of the Korean people.

Even if they appealed with tears, her emotions would not be moved.

    “Find fault?”

    A cold voice.

Even though they had done nothing wrong, it made them shrink back.

“Commander-nim, I have checked the food storage of each resident.”

“Take it all. Oh, and the metal too. Take the farming tools.”

If it were the Earth Army, they wouldn’t be able to give the food obtained from this old village to the soldiers, but Han Sarang was able to convert it into related resources through the ‘Resource Warehouse’ building.

For example, if you put tools made of iron and wood, like farming tools, into the ‘Resource Warehouse’, ‘Iron’ and ‘Wood’ would accumulate.

Any food, as long as it was edible, would be converted into ‘Food’ through the ‘Resource Warehouse’.

That’s why she was planning to plunder as many resources as possible before occupying a city and establishing a base.

“A-all of it!! Even the farming tools!”

“Are you trying to kill us all!!”

The residents protested loudly at her words.

Plundering by the army had been quite common so far, so they were angry, but they were trying to accept it.

But to take all the food and even the farming tools?

Farming tools were their most basic production tools. Without them, they would starve to death.

    “This is too much!!”

    “That’s right!”

    “Not all of it!!”

    “We have to live too!”

Some of the young men even got up as if they were about to charge.

“If you keep doing this, we won’t stand it anymore!”

    The number quickly increased.

Eventually, all the young men except Tatar stood up and shouted for food in unison.

    ‘I’m uneasy….’

He wanted to join them, but Tatar didn’t get up.

He was feeling a strong sense of unease.

He felt like he had to stop them right now, like he had to stop them and beg for mercy on his knees.

Looking at the woman’s eyes looking down at them made him want to vomit.

    “N-noㅡ,”

    Taang!

Just as Tatar opened his mouth to stop the men,

A cloud of smoke leaked from the pistol that Han Sarang raised.

    Thud.

A corpse with its head brutally blown off fell helplessly.

    “….”

    A heavy silence.

    Not even a scream.

    “W-what…is…”

    Taang!

    Second.

Another young man fell with his head blown off.

    “Kyaaaa!!”

    Taang.

This time, the woman who screamed had her head blown off.

    “Heup….”

The women reflexively covered their mouths with both hands.

“We’ll take everything we need and leave. If you interfere, you’ll die.”

    A chilling threat.

They had no idea what that thing was, but they could tell from what had just happened that it was a very dangerous weapon.

    “M-Munin!!”

After a moment of panic, the families of the dead embraced the bodies and wailed.

Some were blinded by rage and charged.

Of course, their heads were blown off every time.

After killing nearly 10 people, the residents no longer charged or screamed.

They just glared at Han Sarang with resentful eyes.

But Han Sarang calmly accepted those gazes and put the pistol back in its holster.

“We’re taking all the young women too. Departure in 10 minutes.”

    “What about the men?”

“Leave them. Kill them if they resist.”

    “Understood.”

Shirley repeated Han Sarang’s order, and the soldiers rushed at the residents and separated the women.

The reason for taking the young women was the same as taking the food and farming tools.

Just as they converted items into resources through the ‘Resource Warehouse’, they could fill ‘Manpower’ with young women.

The only difference was that items put into the ‘Resource Warehouse’ were broken down into resources and disappeared, while people were not.

The ‘Manpower’ stat simply increased, and later, when troops were drawn through the ‘Training Camp’, the women registered as ‘Manpower’ would be assigned positions.

Women assigned to these positions would receive four weeks of military training and loyalty education at the ‘Training Camp’ before being assigned to a unit and following Han Sarang’s orders.

The reason for abandoning the men was that they could not be registered as ‘Manpower’.

When Han Sarang first changed jobs, she chose the gender of the job as female, and since then, all the soldiers summoned were female. That’s why only ‘young women’ were included in ‘Manpower’.

“Kyaa! Let go of me!! Tar! Tatar!!”

    “Mir!!”

As Han Sarang boarded the vehicle with Shirley, the soldiers forcibly dragged the women and threw them into the transport vehicles.

    “You sons of bitches!!”

The remaining people picked up sand in their hands and stood up.

    All the food was taken.

The farming tools and utensils were all taken away.

And their wives and daughters were taken away too.

They had lost everything, so why would they cherish their lives now?

    “You goddamnㅡ!”

    Taang!

    People charged, throwing sand.

The soldiers who were putting the women into the transport vehicles shot at the men.

If they were soldiers with the emotions of Earthlings, they might have hesitated a little to shoot civilians, but they were an army that only listened to Han Sarang’s orders. They didn’t care about such emotions at all.

A hail of bullets and people falling with their bodies covered in blood.

The women cried and shouted to stop, but in the end, everyone who was left turned into corpses.

    “Ah ah…!”

    The women were forcibly abducted.

    And the men died coldly.

    One village was deleted.

“Since they’re all dead anyway, shouldn’t we just dismantle those houses and take them too?”

“No. It’s a waste of time. We’re going straight to the city.”

    “Understood.”
