Chapter 309

    Chapter 309

    Otherworld Demon King Survival Guide.

Episode 309: Stop Ganging Up On Me! (13)

    “Sss.”

Ahead of us, the forces of Baron Ogonbrite were forming their lines. Seeing that, I couldn’t help but bite my lip.

    ㅡSwish.

Right now, we were in a standoff with those bastards.

The plan had slightly gone off track. Originally, we were going to pursue them covertly and, once Anna arrived, ambush them from both sides for a quick encirclement.

    But they discovered us first.

And so, we were stuck in this stalemate. As soon as they spotted us, they swiftly prepared for battle, and ever since, both sides have been locked in a tense standoff without making a move.

    “Ugh.”

Facing such a well-prepared army in a standoff was far more nerve-wracking than I imagined. We were not hiding; we had made ourselves visible, and there was no trap we could use on this plain.

We’d have to break them purely with force.

So, this was the pressure of a frontal confrontation.

Even so, I calmed myself. Regardless, Anna was on her way with her infantry. Once she arrived, this tiresome and nerve-racking standoff would come to an end.

But if they attacked before she got here… we’d have no choice but to clash. And that would inevitably result in losses.

“Master. What should we do about those cavalry?”

At that moment, Sharan pressed her lips and asked.

“We’ll have to leave them alone for now. If we send the pixies now, they’ll be obliterated by crossbow fire.”

At a glance, the enemy outnumbered us. They even had cavalry. If we sent the pixies now, they’d be shredded.

The enemy had crossbowmen. They could easily shoot down any flying pixies.

So, we’d only send the pixies when their cavalry started moving. That was the perfect timing.

    “Got it.”

    Sharan nodded.

    “Master.”

    Vanessa called out to me.

    “Yes, Vanessa?”

“Are you planning to continue this standoff?”

    “For now, yes.”

    We’d wait until Anna arrived.

“Wouldn’t it be better to deploy the fallen angels now? Reducing their numbers before Anna arrives might be a good idea. Angels in flight wouldn’t be easy to counter with crossbows.”

    “That does make sense.”

Vanessa’s suggestion was tempting: launch a bombardment with the Black Flame Cannon to devastate the enemy’s infantry formation. It would surely cause chaos.

No one could endure seeing their comrades blown apart.

    “No.”

Anna must arrive first. Whatever happened, we must ensure the fight began under optimal conditions to minimize our losses.

“We’ll wait for now. If they make the first move, we’ll respond accordingly.”

    “Hmm… I see.”

“We’ll commence the bombardment once Anna arrives. I plan to strike with full force when our preparations are complete.”

    “Understood.”

And so, the standoff continued. Both sides, tense, did nothing but watch each other warily.

Finally, Anna arrived. From afar, I could see her! That overwhelming relief!

    ㅡWhiz!

    “What?!”

    Suddenly, Baron Ogonbrite’s cavalry moved!

    Their target: Anna!

    “Those insane bastards!”

Baron Ogonbrite realized it! He understood that the soldiers appearing from that direction were reinforcements for our side! So, before being encircled, he decided to send his cavalry to crush them!

    That bastard’s quick thinking!

“But we have pixies on our side!”

His judgment was excellent, but unfortunately for him, we had pixies, the cavalry killers. If not for them, this would have been his victory.

Too bad for him, it was his defeat.

How absurdly advantageous it was when the enemy didn’t know your capabilities! If they’d known about our pixies, they wouldn’t have dared to make such a move!

    I immediately called for Serinu!

    “Serinu!”

    “Yes!”

“Circle around their formation and chase down their cavalry! Annihilate them!”

“Understood! Avoid the arrows, right? Got it!”

    ㅡWhoosh!

Serinu returned to her unit and immediately took off.

    ㅡVoom!

Watching those flying pixies always brought joy. The pixies swiftly flew in a wide arc, bypassing the enemy infantry, and charged straight at the cavalry.

    ㅡSlash!

    ㅡThwack!

    ㅡSplat!

As they always did, they launched Wind Cutters at the horses galloping below.

    ㅡNeigh!

    ㅡThud!

The charging horses collapsed. No horse could keep running after being cut open mid-sprint.

    ㅡAaaagh!

The riders also fell, tumbling to the ground. Cavalry were highly trained elite soldiers. Watching such valuable warriors fall was always satisfying!

    “Great!”

In an instant, the enemy cavalry squad was wiped out!

    “Lilriel! Take flight!”

    “Understood! Angels, prepare to fly!”

    “Yes!”

    “Yes!”

    ㅡFlap!

Lilriel and the angels spread their wings and took to the skies. Perfect. The battle began now. It seemed Anna had also arranged her infantry in formation. She’s quick-witted; she must have realized we needed to encircle them.

    ㅡBoom!

    ㅡCrash!

As usual, the Fallen Angels’ Black Flame Cannons rained down like meteors. While not mythically destructive…

The important thing was that they landed right in the middle of the enemy infantry formation.

    ㅡKaboom!

With the explosion, Baron Ogonbrite’s soldiers faltered. But the Black Flame Cannon didn’t stop with one strike. It continued. Over and over again!

    ㅡBoom!

    ㅡCrash!

    “Aaaargh!”

    “Ahhh!”

And so, the enemy troops fell into panic. The command unit tried to restore order, but their instincts to dodge the falling fireballs came first.

As the infantry formation began to collapse:

    “Buril! Advance! Charge forward!”

    “Keaaaah! Raise your shields! Advance!”

    “Kerk! Kerk! Kerk!”

    “Keruuurk!”

My proud Goblin Phalanx marched forward!

“Nekri! Hold your shields up! Protect your heads and follow the goblins!”

    “Understood!”

Despite thorough preparation against arrows, getting hit by a stray one would be like being struck by lightning. My unit advanced swiftly while remaining cautious of enemy attacks.

    “Master, what about us?”

“The Lamias will wait for now. I’ll give the order at the right moment, and that’s when you’ll strike the flank.”

    “Understood. We’ll do that.”

    I scanned the battlefield.

    “Good!”

Anna was also advancing her infantry formation. With that, we were now pressuring Baron Ogonbrite’s forces from both the front and back. Meanwhile, the soldiers of Baron Ogonbrite, already in chaos, were breaking formation, fleeing, or deserting.

As soon as their crumbling formation collided with ours, it would turn into a one-sided massacre!

    “Charge! Chargeee!”

    As we continued our advance:

    ㅡThud!

Anna’s infantry collided with the enemy forces first!

    ㅡWaaaahhhh!

    ㅡOoooooh!

    ㅡAaaaahhhhh!

Battle cries erupted. Seeing this, I commanded the Goblin Phalanx to charge.

    “Keeyaaaahhh!”

The moment the goblins rushed out and collided with the shattered enemy formation:

    ㅡSplat!

    A one-sided slaughter unfolded.

    “Kerk! Kerrruuuk!”

    “Keeyaaaahh!”

    “Aaaagh!”

Baron Ogonbrite’s forces were massacred without resistance. Outnumbered and overpowered, it was inevitable. Pressured from both the front and rear, they fled in terror, scattering to the sides.

“Juria! Head to the left and deal with the deserters while pressuring the enemy’s flank! Nekri! Do the same on the right!”

    “Yes!”

    “Understood!”

    ㅡWhoosh!

The two units that had been on standby behind the goblins split off to the left and right. My units executed their orders flawlessly.

The Lamias slashed through deserters with their spears and swords, while the Dark Elves used their agility to chase down fleeing soldiers and slice their throats.

    ㅡSlash!

    ㅡStab!

Once a formation started collapsing, it was impossible to restore. My Goblin Phalanx were literal experts in slaughter. They relentlessly pressed and pushed forward—there was no way for the enemy to withstand it.

The enemy soldiers must have wanted to flee backward, but behind them stood Anna’s infantry.

    “A complete victory!”

Contrary to my initial worries, this battle ended as another overwhelming victory for us. The tension I had felt preparing for this fight now seemed foolish—it had been an effortless win.

“Anna! Excellent work! You executed my plan perfectly!”

“I only made the obvious choice! In that situation, encirclement was the best strategy!”

“Exactly! You truly have a talent for strategy!”

    “Thank you!”

Anna smiled brightly, pleased with the compliment.

This battle had been a tremendous success. While there were minor deviations, everything had gone according to my intent. The plan had unfolded without any issues.

“Haa. To win the first battle… Honestly, I was a bit nervous, but my infantry performed exceptionally well. Just as they were trained.”

“That’s what training is for. So, how about casualties?”

“None. We have a few injured with arm and leg wounds, but no deaths. The enemy soldiers were in a state of panic, which made it easier.”

    “That’s a relief.”

Injuries could be treated, after all.

    “But, Master.”

    “Yes, Anna?”

“My soldiers seem a bit unsettled.”

    “Unsettled?”

I looked over at the temporary camp where Anna’s unit was resting, separated from ours. They appeared to be sitting calmly rather than showing signs of agitation.

“It seems they were quite shocked to see the mixed-species units. Especially the Lamias—they seem particularly surprised. I think some explanation is needed.”

    Well.

    That made sense.

If I were in their shoes and saw snake-women fighting on our side, I’d probably be losing my mind too.
