Chapter 307

    Chapter 307

    Otherworld Demon King Survival Guide.

Episode 307: Stop Ganging Up On Me! (11)

    “Ke-ryaaaaaak!”

    “Kerrrrruk!”

    The enemy infantry formation collapsed.

From the start, this was a battle with no chance of victory for them. Their commander had completely misjudged our forces.

    “Hraaaaak!”

    “Aaaaah!”

Their soldiers, crushed by my goblin heavy infantry, fell and were trampled. The Dark Elves weren’t just flanking the advancing enemy forces anymore. They moved like wings on either side of the goblin phalanx, surrounding and shattering the enemy.

    – Thwack!

    – Splat!

The Dark Elves’ skill with weapons was truly remarkable. They swung swords and thrust spears in combination, chipping away at the ends of the enemy line on both sides.

    “Kyaaahahaha!”

    “Everyone, just die!”

The pixies assisted in this operation. They picked out the courageous soldiers trying to counterattack, stabbing them in the face with timely Wind Cutters. It was truly fantastic support, and I think even the pixies had become true war experts by now.

    “Sharan!”

    “Shaaa!”

Sharan bound the feet of the enemy troops at the very back with vines.

    “Why, why aren’t you retreating?”

    “Aaaaah!”

    “Kyaaaak!”

The infantry at the back, unable to move, fell backward and were trampled by the soldiers trying to retreat. But even the soldiers who trampled them ended up falling down.

The enemy was in complete collapse.

My army devoured all of their troops, even without the Lamias needing to sortie.

    “Victory!”

At last, we had slaughtered all the enemy soldiers.

    “Ke-ryaaaaak!”

    “Waaaaaah!”

The goblins and Dark Elves, who were the main forces in the battle, let out triumphant cheers. But the battle wasn’t over yet. Down at the base of the mountain, their temporary encampment remained. The troops who advanced were only half of their forces.

In other words, we’d have to kill just as many again.

“Everyone! Take a brief rest! The main force of the enemy is down at the base! We have to crush them too!”

We were going to use this momentum to annihilate the ones down the mountain as well. With half of their forces dead, we’d naturally overwhelm them in numbers. If we dominated them in numbers, there was no reason we should lose.

“Quickly replenish your energy and take a break! We’ll have to fight again soon!”

After issuing that order, I patted Sharan’s head.

“Sharan, thank you for protecting me earlier. Hehehe.”

    “Shaaa. Sharan will protect Master.”

    —Squeak squeak.

Sharan rubbed the crown of her head against my neck affectionately. That aside, she dealt with the enemy knight so effortlessly.

Binding him with vines and then slashing his throat… Her strength and agility were nothing short of incredible. She could unleash explosive power strong enough to overwhelm a knight.

    She had definitely grown stronger.

    “I trust you, Sharan!”

    “Shaa!”

“Alright, let’s bring out the flower pot, shall we?”

    “I’ll fetch it!”

    —Thud thud thud.

Sharan trotted off, arms slightly open, to bring the flower pot. This was a pot containing a mandragora. Today, let’s test what effect this had.

    “Serinu! Gather the pixies!”

I immediately called for the pixies to gather.

    “Damn…!”

The first scouts that were sent out hadn’t returned.

They must have been caught in some kind of accident. Probably ambushed by medium-sized monsters in the wild. Thinking that, he had sent half of the troops up.

    —Aaaaargh!

Suddenly, screams and cheers burst from the mountaintop. The sharp-eared Baron Mellerja immediately ordered battle preparations.

    This was unexpected.

    “Damn it!”

Could there have been enemy ambushes up there?

    “How did this happen?”

How did they know they were coming today and set up an ambush? It didn’t make sense. It was hard to understand the rationale behind stationing so many troops in the mountains for enemies whose arrival time was unknown.

Baron Mellerja felt confused, but there was one possible explanation.

    “Betrayal!”

    Someone had betrayed them.

Be it Myler or Ogonbrite, one of the two barons must have betrayed him and leaked the attack information to the Saintess’ side. With that in mind, everything suddenly made sense. The Saintess’ side knew about the attack, allowing them to station their forces in advance.

The traitor was likely planning to abandon the Count and side with the Saintess. And he was the sacrifice they chose.

    “Curse them!”

Biting his lip, he tasted bitter blood. He didn’t know who it was, but he’d make sure to find out and take his revenge.

    Baron Mellerja quickly deliberated.

Should he send more troops up to regroup with his forces fighting the ambush, or should he pull back his remaining forces from here? Either choice would result in significant losses.

And Baron Mellerja made his choice.

    “Half of my forces…!”

A searing pain, as if carving through bone, swept over him. Half of his forces meant half of Mellerja himself. Only by sacrificing this half could he survive.

They knew about him and would have prepared meticulously. Moving forward would mean losing all troops. At this point, he had no choice but to abandon half of his forces to survive.

The knights had already been dispatched.

If there were any survivors, they would handle things on their own.

    “Baumus!”

    “Yes!”

With a feeling as though he was coughing up blood, Baron Mellerja issued his command.

“Retreat immediately! Prepare to pull back at once!”

“But, my lord. The troops who climbed up the mountain…”

“They were ambushed. The information was leaked. A traitor sold us out. If we try to rescue them now, everyone here will die. So get them to pull back, now!”

    “Understood!”

Baron Mellerja deeply regretted coming here… At the same time, resentment surged within him — against the Count, the Saintess, and even the angels.

It was half. A full half.

How much time and money would it take to recover from this? The thought alone made him want to vomit, but survival was more important now. With a traitor in the ranks, he had enough to report to the Count.

He could hold the Count accountable for this. The Count chose that traitor, so this was the Count’s responsibility, wasn’t it?

The Count still needed subordinates. With a traitor diminishing their strength and the enemy only growing stronger, the Count couldn’t afford to discard him. If he made the right demands, they would be met. He could even use this opportunity to strengthen his alliance with the Count.

Baron Mellerja calculated quickly, even under these dire circumstances.

    —Clack clack clack!

The soldiers finished preparing to retreat. The infantry lined up to march, and the cavalry prepared to escort the transport unit.

    “Commence retreat!”

    —Puuuuuuu!

The moment the retreat horn sounded.

    “Hmm?”

Baron Mellerja felt something was amiss and looked up at the sky. Something like a bird seemed to be flying above. Staring intently, he realized—

    —Whiiiiiiiiiiish!

    “Is something… falling?”

    Something was descending.

Mellerja only thought about it briefly.

    —Boom!

And then it hit the ground.

    Right beside the transport wagons.

The strangest phenomenon in the world unfolded.

    “Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak!!!!!!!!!”

An unearthly scream tore through the air!

    “Ugh, argh!”

    “Aaaagh!”

    “Kiiiieeeek!”

Soldiers shrieked as they toppled over.

    “Heeheeheeheehee!”

    “Heehee! Heeeeeee!”

    “Heeeeeek!”

All the horses rolled their eyes back, foaming at the mouth, thrashing wildly before collapsing!

    “Wh-what is this!”

Baron Mellerja, oblivious to the blood streaming from his ears, stared at his men. In an instant, soldiers and horses were strewn about, as if hit by a landslide!

“Th-that scream… Baumus! Get a hold of yourself!”

Even his subordinate beside him had fallen…!

    “Everyone, rise!”

Mellerja tried to regain control, but—

    —Kyaa-haaaaaa!

    —Kyararararak!

    —Kerrrrrrruk!

    —Kya-hahahahaha!

Suddenly, the sounds of spectral cries arose from behind. In horror, Baron Mellerja looked back.

    “Ah.”

What he saw was nothing short of a nightmare army. A cavalry of nightmares, with snake-like lower bodies, held spears as they charged forward.

Behind them, winged demons and armored phantasmal infantry followed.

“All troops! Enemy at the rear! Form ranks! Form ranks!”

Baron Mellerja yelled desperately, but his soldiers, still dazed by the unholy scream, could not collect themselves. The front of the column looked relatively fine, but here, they were at the back.

Before those in the front could reach them and form ranks—

    —Thwack!

Moments after the tactical weapon Mandragora was dropped.

Enemy soldiers and horses convulsed and fell. Its effect was far more incredible than expected. A mere plant root had completely incapacitated part of the enemy’s forces.

Overcome with excitement, I immediately gave the attack order.

    —Thwack!

As a result, Baron Mellerja’s army was utterly decimated.

“Ha ha ha ha ha ha! We took down Baron Mellerja!”

Whoever said Lamias were weak on open ground?

The Lamias, clad in steel armor, charged in unison, shattering the Baron’s forces, who had no chance to resist and were annihilated.

Slaughtering an army thrown into chaos was remarkably easy. The goblin infantry advanced in formation, cutting down every human in sight. Once again, the invincible army of Kyuse the Demon King emerged victorious!
