Chapter 306

    Chapter 306

    Otherworld Demon King Survival Guide.

Episode 306: Stop Ganging Up On Me! (10)

The enemy scouts began climbing up the mountain.

Scouts were typically quick-witted and shrewd. Plus, they’re also in great shape, so these guys were considered elite troops.

It’s always satisfying to gobble up the enemy’s elite forces.

Honestly… Even though we’re lying in ambush, if they carefully checked around the road, we were bound to get noticed.

If even one of them spotted us, we had to wipe them all out. The plan had already shifted toward total annihilation.

“Shaaa. Master, it would be good to plant a tower of vegetation on the mountain.”

“That sounds good. That way, we can block the ones climbing up.”

Anyway, dressed in a ghillie suit, I hid in the trees and used Evil Eye to observe the enemy scouts climbing up.

    ㅡSwish! ㅡRustle-rustle!

They quickly ascended, probing the ground with poles, carefully surveying the surroundings. They seemed pretty experienced.

    “Did you find anything?”

    “No, sir.”

“Then let’s split up here. You guys go towards the road, and we’ll head up.”

    “Understood.”

There were a total of ten scouts. The ones who had split up headed toward the road and, as soon as they stepped into our stronghold—

    ㅡWhoosh!

    “Huh?”

One of them suddenly fell. It was a goblin ambush covered with leaf-made lids.

“All troops! Annihilate the enemy! Kehrik!”

At Buril’s shout, who reacted instantly—

    ㅡWhooosh!

The goblins, who had been hiding in the stronghold with their swords gripped, rushed out with swift movements. A prime example of an extreme ambush tactic.

    “Huh?!”

The unlucky scout shouted in surprise.

    ㅡSlash!

Buril’s cursed sword split his chest open, and he died as he bled out.

“Move! Hunt down every single one of them!”

    “Kraaagh!”

The goblins, armed with swords and shields, skillfully ran along the mountain path. With this, all their scouts were killed.

And thus, we wiped out every scout.

Of course, at first, there was no reaction since they didn’t know about the deaths. But if the scouts didn’t return at the designated time, they’d become suspicious.

    A few hours passed.

Finally, enough time had elapsed for the enemy to notice our ambush. No matter how long they waited, the scouts didn’t return, indicating they’d been ambushed in the mountains.

    I wondered how they’d react.

We waited for the enemy in our mountain positions, eating rations and resting. After a while, they showed a significant response.

    ㅡStep-step-step.

    They were advancing their army.

“No way, they’re going for a frontal assault?”

    “Oh, this is surprising.”

Baron Mellerja’s troops settled back at the base of the mountain and prepared to send their forces up. They judged the path between the mountains too dangerous and decided to sweep out the ambushers by opting for mountain combat!

    “Truly impressive!”

Who would’ve thought they’d take such a bold approach?

“Vanessa, does Baron Mellerja specialize in mountain warfare or something?”

“Not sure. But if they’re planning to break through an ambush on the mountain, they must have some confidence. Be careful.”

    “I will.”

“Or, they might just mistake us for monsters or something.”

“Yeah, they probably never imagined we’d be waiting. That makes sense too.”

    Whatever the reason—

These mountainous and jungle regions were our turf. Really, if we’d set up Sharan’s plant tower, that would have been amazing.

    “Buril.”

    “Kehrek. Yes, Master.”

“The enemies are starting to climb the mountain. We’ll fight here.”

“Kehrek-kehrek. Understood? My blood is boiling…!”

    His fighting spirit is high.

“Right. The incline may be a bit different, but we’ve always trained in the jungle. Get into position and show your strength!”

    “Kehrek! Understood, Master!”

“I’ll send the pixies along with you; begin battle deployment!”

    “Kehrek!”

    Buril immediately left.

    “Nekri!”

    “Yes, Lord!”

“Dark Elves! Can you handle the humans climbing up?”

“Of course! It won’t be too hard since we’re at a higher position!”

“Then I trust you! Position yourselves around the goblin formation to prevent them from crossing the line. Hunt them down!”

    “Yes!”

“And also set up a rear ambush group. Attack from behind when the chance comes.”

“We’ll do so if we see an opening.”

    “Good.”

Nekri led the Dark Elf special forces swiftly. Finally, I turned to Juria.

“First, check our unit’s position. Make a wide circle, then attack the humans from the side.”

“Understood. I’ll dedicate this victory to you, Lord.”

“Hoho, I look forward to a valuable victory, Lady Juria.”

“I shall live up to your expectations. Hehehe.”

With a sly smile, Juria led the lamias out. After we completed the battle preparations, I received a report from a pixie.

“They’re preparing to climb…! We’ll just scout around since there’s nothing much we can do inside the mountain!”

“Right. Do that, but have half of you stand behind our infantry and send some Wind Cutters at the enemy soldiers’ faces. Relay that to Serinu.”

    “Got it!”

    We were at no disadvantage.

Strategically, we were in the upper position. This wasn’t a place like Jieting, where they chose to climb the mountain just to be surrounded and annihilated.

    It was truly unstoppable.

All we had to do was crush the ones climbing up.

“Shaaa…! Looks like it’ll be Sharan’s turn this time!”

    “Heheh, let’s hope not.”

Sharan, Vanessa, the Fallen Angels, and the pixies were all guarding me. Given their skill, they’d handle any enemy unit or knight infiltration with ease.

    “Whew.”

This was my first time in such a battle.

I exhaled, channeling my mana to sharpen my senses.

I took my place behind the goblin formation.

We must truly claim victory here.

    “Let’s fight!”

The enemy army was climbing up the mountain.

Their numbers exceeded a hundred. But our numbers were also above a hundred.

    ㅡStep-step. ㅡStep-step. ㅡStep-step.

The climbing soldiers made a lot of noise.

    “Graaaaah!”

    “Show yourself, you cowards!”

    “I’ll kill you all!”

They shouted, stomping loudly and scattering their intimidating energy. With over a hundred soldiers moving up, keeping hidden was impossible anyway.

They must be shouting just to build momentum.

    ㅡ…

We simply watched in silence. We were in an ideal spot, and thanks to Sharan’s power, we had camouflaged ourselves with vegetation.

    ㅡ…

The goblins were in formation, well-hidden. I was waiting for the perfect moment as the enemies neared our infantry.

    And then—

    ㅡThud.

    “Huh?”

As the enemy formation approached a certain point.

    Right then!

    “Graaaaaaaah!!!”

I released my mana and let out a powerful shout!

    “Goblin Phalanx! Charge!”

    “Kraaaaagh!”

    “Kerrrrk!”

    “Kill them! Kerrrk!!!”

    ㅡFlash!

The moment the goblin phalanx launched forward, the plants around us disintegrated, thanks to Sharan’s magic. The demon lord’s infantry charged downhill, shields and spears at the ready, towards the advancing soldiers.

    “Huh?”

    “Uh, what?”

    “W-What is that…”

Although they were tense, this was an unmistakable ambush. The enemy infantry uttered pitiful sounds. The cost, of course—

    ㅡStab! ㅡStab! ㅡStab!

    —was their lives.

    “Guah…!”

    “Kraaaah!”

    “It’s an ambush! Ambush!”

    “Form ranks!”

    The first wave.

The goblin infantry’s downhill charge took down about two squads of enemy troops. The goblins trampled over the corpses, forming a tight formation as they advanced steadily.

“Kraaaaagh! Kill them! Kill them all!”

    “Kerrrrk!”

    “Gairon! Flank the enemy infantry!”

    “Eagle Squad! Follow me!”

At that moment, part of the enemy infantry turned to flank the goblin formation. I smiled as I watched. I’d already prepared for this.

    ㅡSwish-swish-swish!

    “Huh?”

The Dark Elf special forces charged toward the flanking enemy troops, swift and agile, as they sprinted downhill.

    ㅡSlash!

    They tore through the infantry!

    “Kraaagh!”

    “Aaah!”

This was exactly why I’d placed the Dark Elves here. Flanking? Go ahead. The Dark Elves would cut them down entirely.

And so, battle erupted all around us.

    “Waaaah!”

    “Don’t fall back!”

    “Push forward!”

    “Kerrrrrrk!”

Finally, our infantry and the enemy infantry clashed along the line, and the struggle for power began. But our goblins held the high ground, strengthened with magic and hardened by extensive training and battle experience.

Could these human soldiers possibly win in a battle of formations?

I took in the situation and ordered the Fallen Angels.

“Lilriel! Fire an arc! Launch effective magic toward the enemy units!”

“Understood! Everyone, load up Dark Flame Cannons on low power!”

“Pixies! Aim for the enemy’s faces from behind our infantry!”

    ㅡFlash!

After giving the orders, I charged forward to provide support with my cursed sword.

    “Haaaah!”

The moment I moved behind our goblins, I raised my sword and summoned spirits.

    ㅡScreeeeech!

A spirit burst out with a shriek, diving into the enemy ranks. At the same time, the one at the front screamed and began to panic.

    “Aaaaah!”

“Target that spot! Hit there! Kraaaaagh!”

    “Kerrrrrk!”

The goblins drove their formation through that spot.

    “Shaaa! Master! It’s dangerous here!”

    “Sharan! Vanessa! Protect me!”

    In that instant—

    “Is that guy their commander?”

    ㅡThump-thump-thump!

    A thundering sound echoed as—

    ㅡLeap!

A knight launched himself into the air, charging straight toward me! This… seemed dangerous, but I wasn’t afraid. After all, I trusted my personal guards.

    ㅡThud-thud-thud!

As I thought that, vines shot up from the ground at high speed. They sprang up like spears, wrapping around the knight’s waist and restraining him.

    “What?!”

    “Shaaaaat!!!”

An enraged Sharan sprang forward, claws extended.

    ㅡSlice!

    And that was the end.

With a single swipe, Sharan clawed through space, and the knight’s head fell.

Before Vanessa could even draw her sword,

    “Sharan! Amazing! That was amazing!”

    “Sharan will always protect Master!”

“Even took down the enemy knight!”

    This battle—we had won.
