Chapter 144

    Chapter 144

    Otherworld Demon King Survival Guide.

    Episode 144: Lizardmen Scoundrels (8)

Thus, we advanced to the vicinity of the Lizardmen’s base, finding a suitable spot and organizing a scouting party for direct reconnaissance.

Seeing and judging with my own eyes was always best.

    “Good.”

After finding an appropriate tree, I swiftly climbed it like a monkey. My strength has increased with growth, making climbing hardly a challenge. The pixies followed closely by my side.

    —Crack.

As promised, Sharan enhanced the camouflage effect by making leaves sprout around me.

“Let’s stay quiet and observe over there.”

    “Okay.”

I looked directly at the Lizardmen’s headquarters.

    “Shuwaah.”

    “Sowah.”

    —Flutter.

Numerous Lizardmen were flicking their tongues and murmuring amongst themselves. Some murmured, others sat doing something. There, some tore at branches and others ate birds.

    Such an everyday scene.

They seemed to have no imagination of being attacked, just tribe members going about their ordinary lives.

    “Croak.”

    “Croak croak.”

It appeared they were also raising some livestock, as frogs the size of puppies roamed around. The frogs caught flying insects with their tongues and even lay on their backs, croaking contentedly.

There even seemed to be some sort of fish farm near the water, with branches stuck here and there.

    “These guys?”

Were they smarter than I thought?

Upon closer inspection, they seemed to be living quite well.

Moreover, they were adept at connecting bushes, dark wooden logs, etc., to make hut-like structures. While their civilization level might be lower than the hobgoblins’, it was passable.

It made me think of them as a race on par with the Satyrs and Pixies.

No. They might even be more dangerous. The Satyrs succumbed to their mating season and were defeated helplessly, but these creatures might not.

Additionally, their skin… the scales seemed to provide them with very high defense. But seeing as some died at the hands of Satyrs, it’s not as tough as real armor.

    While contemplating this.

    “Shuwaah.”

    I saw the largest Lizardman.

He was slightly taller than me. Considering that the other Lizardmen were smaller than me, he definitely had a large build.

    “Chief.”

    It must be the chief.

Of course, I’m not worried. We’ve become stronger over time. If we advance in formation, we should be able to subdue them with minimal damage.

And with Vanessa here, there’s nothing to fear.

The strategy was simple. Advance the army, I’ll appear and make a loud noise to intimidate them, spreading the aura of demons, and when the chief shows himself, Vanessa and I will strike together to quickly subdue him and take him hostage.

By making the captured chief submit, I’ll turn him into my slave. Then everything will be okay. It’ll be easy to devour the tribe.

    “Let’s go down.”

After completing the reconnaissance, I climbed down from the tree.

After returning to the temporary headquarters, I gathered my subordinates and shared everything I had seen, informing them about the plan.

“Don’t worry, Buril. You’ve all grown during this time. The size difference isn’t that significant.”

“Kek, understood, Master! We have become stronger!”

    “Kerrk!”

    “Krurk!”

    “Master! Thank you! Kek!”

The goblins, once mere small fry, have all grown in size and muscle through my power. There’s nothing to fear.

“Then let’s advance! To subjugate the Lizardmen!”

    “Kerrk!”

All my subordinates grabbed their weapons. Not just the goblins. The imps and kobolds also held spears. Everyone has become capable of using at least a spear.

“Lady Vanessa. As you’ve heard, we need to subdue the Lizardman chief without killing him.”

    “I haven’t seen him… but it shouldn’t be a big problem. Understood.”

“Good. Sharan. Sharan, you need to protect me well this time.”

    “Sha. Got it, Master.”

We outnumbered them from the start, and we have many skilled individuals on our side.

There’s no way we can lose!

“Lumica, please keep a good watch from the rear. Support us from a distance in coordination with the nuns.”

    “Understood. I’ll do that.”

    With that said,

    “Let’s go!”

We headed towards the Lizardmen tribe.

    —Chk-chk-chk.

As we approached the village in an orderly formation,

    “Shu, shuwaah?!”

    “Shuwaah! Shuwaah!”

    “Shuwoot!”

The Lizardmen, who were loitering near the village, reacted with convulsions. Not stopping there, they all started to grab nearby sticks and went on high alert.

“These guys aren’t ready to welcome guests?”

Weren’t they being too harsh to guests?

    “Shuwaah!”

Ignoring them, we continued to advance, and the Lizardmen ran into the village. Around the village were just a few simple and primitive wooden logs, with no proper structures.

“Kakakak! Look at them! They all seem scared!”

    “They’re no match for us!”

    “We’ve become that strong!”

Seeing this, the pixies laughed heartily and mocked the Lizardmen. These war-crazy fairy soldiers, with their innate militaristic nature, boosted their morale and fighting spirit upon seeing the enemy’s weak appearance.

    They truly have talent.

“Sha. Master. Still, be careful. Don’t let the kids get hurt.”

    “Huhuhu, of course.”

    Thus,

    —Chrk.

We successfully entered the village without bloodshed. The Lizardmen were so scared upon seeing us that they only backed away.

    —Splash!

Some of them even showed off by running into the swamp waters. The livestock frogs also scattered in all directions.

    “Shuwaah…!”

The Lizardmen gathered together, sticking close and flicking their tongues.

“Imsoong, give them a welcoming gift.”

    “Krurk! Understood!”

    —Whooosh!

The imps immediately charged fireballs in their right hands and threw them around the village, starting small fires.

    —Whooosh!

    “Shuwaah!”

    “Shuwaah!”

The Lizardmen were terrified upon seeing this.

    “Buril, battle stance.”

    “Kek! Battle stance!”

    —Chrk!

The goblins, armed with shields and spears, took their positions, and then!

    “Aaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!”

I let out a very loud scream, exhaling with all my might, infusing my power with the aura and magic of demons, and releasing it from my vocal cords!

    “Shuwaah!”

    “Sswaah!”

    —Plop!

Startled by that, the Lizardmen hugged each other and jumped in surprise. They were quite startled indeed! It’s said that even a dog would eat half its meal in its own territory, but we snatched that advantage with our sudden ambush and preemptive strike!

    “Kerrrk!”

    “Krkk!”

    “Shaaaah!”

    “Those, those disgusting lizards!”

Simultaneously, my troops created chaos with their shouts, causing the Lizardmen to tremble almost.

    And just then.

    “Sswaahhhhhh!!!”

The chief emerged from inside a hut, bursting out with a loud cry. What an impressive entrance with a booming shout. With that momentum,

    “Shuwah…!”

The Lizardmen regained their senses and gathered around the chief.

    “Truly a chief. There’s charisma.”

The chief, holding a large club, stepped forward as if to protect his tribespeople from us.

    This guy!

He’s trying to protect his tribespeople with his own body!

“Oho! Is this what a leader is? Standing boldly to protect his tribe!”

Such an admirable attitude! Yes! A true leader should have such spirit! Seeing this, I felt the value of subjugating him increased.

I shall make this warrior submit!

“Is that the chief… Indeed. He exudes a strong aura.”

    “Do you feel it?”

“A little, but he’s imbued with mana. That must be why he’s so big. I’ve heard that monsters imbued with mana grow larger.”

    “Oh, is that so?”

Indeed. Both hobgoblins and satyrs had chiefs that were all large in size. They probably became stronger than their peers by chance upon being imbued with mana. That’s likely why they became chiefs.

Perhaps their intellect improved as well.

    “Shwak! Shuwaah!”

    “Sswaah!”

As the chief shouted and pointed with his club, the Lizardmen started to frenzy, seeming ready to charge at any moment!

I would have preferred to subjugate them without causing harm, but no race submits to rule without resistance! We must demonstrate our strength to conquer!

“Goblin Phalanx!!! As we trained! Charge and break!”

    “Kerrrkkk!”

    —Pfft!

At the command, the Goblin Phalanx unit moved in unison, leading with spears and shields.

    “Shuwaah!”

    “Shuwah!”

Seeing this, the Lizardmen charged with clubs in hand, something a human would never do! Charging blindly into a formation! Such foolishness was beyond limit!

Monsters were indeed monsters! We couldn’t lose!

    Thus,

    —Kwang!

The Phalanx collided with the Lizardmen. The outcome was obvious. The first line of Lizardmen was instantly demolished.

    “Shuwaah!”

But, unaware, the Lizardmen continued to charge. The chief was no different!

    —Papapap!

    “Wait!”

The chief, all by himself, attempted a flank and ran towards us! If he was going to do that, he should have brought his subordinates with him! Truly a monster with no brains!

“Such spirit! But the limits of a monster cannot be overcome! Vanessa! Reika! Sharan! Let’s go together!”

    “Sha!”

    —Pfft!

We, too, with swords in hand, dashed towards the chief.

    “Shuwaah!”

    —Ssssssssh!

The moment the frenzied chief swung his club,

    “Woooooo!”

I executed the swordsmanship I had learned, clashing my sword against his club.

    —Koong!
