Chapter 65

Chapter 65
Otherworld Demon King Survival Guide.
Episode 65: Strengthening My Foundation (14)
The armament was simple.
Both sides were fighting using primitive stone axes. The attire? Even worse than the hobgoblins.
While hobgoblins made clothes by sewing together animal skins, these creatures seemed to be aspiring to a barbarian look, just draping themselves in raw hides.
“Meeeeeho!”
“Shwaaa!”
Nevertheless, these creatures were savage and ferocious.
The goat-monster swung its stone ax vigorously with its arms, which were longer than a human’s, and the lizardman, covered in scales, bit into the neck while enduring hits.
—Kwajik!
—Chuwahak!
It was indeed a thrilling battle.
Over ten warriors of each species were tangled in one place, fighting indiscriminately without any tactics.
“…”
I took in the entire scene.
Escaping would be the safest, but that was not an option. There was nothing more entertaining in this world than watching a fight.
Of course, I was exaggerating.
I couldn’t just retreat when I saw an unfamiliar species fighting. Even if it was a bit risky, it was necessary to understand as much as possible.
I needed to figure out what these idiots were. They were not neighbors; they were enemies. Information was crucial.
“Mehehehe!”
The goat-monster yelled like a goat.
“Shwah!”
The lizardman made a reptilian sound.
Was it because of the shape of their hands?
Goat-Monster. It had the lower body of a goat and walked on two legs; its upper body was similar to a human, but the face was like some sort of monkey. And it had goat horns on its head. The arms were long like a monkey’s… but the hands were not balanced like a human’s. It was closer to a primate. I should call these creatures Satyros.
Similarly, the lizardman also had crude hands. Either way, neither had hands suitable for making tools.
Thinking about it, the hands of hobgoblins were the most similar to humans. That was probably why there was a quality difference in tools.
These creatures were slightly smaller than me. They were definitely bigger than hobgoblins but seemed to lack in technology. Also, from their chaotic fight, it seemed they didn’t know anything about tactics or training.
In summary, both had decent physical attributes but seemed less intelligent than hobgoblins. More importantly… processing their corpses might yield decent equipment.
Horns. Teeth. Claws. Scales. Wow. All treasures.
“Good.”
I assessed them and then retreated a bit.
Then, Sharan, who had been silent, spoke.
“Master. It’s not just them.”
“What? There are more?”
“Over there.”
Sharan pulled my wrist. I carefully followed her and looked where she was pointing.
“There is another species.”
Over there.
We weren’t the only ones watching this battle.
“No way…!”
“They look female. Like Sharan and Lumica?”
Women!
Another female species!
Surprisingly, they were wearing proper clothes! I thought they were humans for a moment, but no, their ears were long. And they had something like insect wings on their backs.
Butterfly? Moth? Dragonfly? Something like that. And what was on their head? A headband? Or antennae?
“Flying species?”
Their hair colors were diverse. And they were holding staves… most importantly, they were wearing clothes.
“…”
They were a bit short but.
Their chests were quite large.
Sharan’s equal and slightly larger than Lumica’s.
I wanted to get a proper look at their figures, but their clothes obscured the view, making it difficult to discern. Anyway, the material of the clothes, was it silk? Thread drawn from cocoons? It had a kind of that feel… the colors were varied, and the design was well-made, much like a dress.
Did they have the technology to make clothes?
Then, they seemed like an advanced race.
“Sharan, do you know what they are?”
Already, Sharan and I were ready to ambush them. Camouflage plants were growing around us.
“I don’t know much either. But they are dangerous. Females are generally strong.”
“Looks like it.”
Anyway, those unique female species didn’t seem to live alone like Sharan or Lumica. Three were visible just now. They were observing the battle between the Satyros and Lizardmen.
“Hmm.”
Three new species had appeared.
Satyros.
Lizardman.
As for the female species, they were shorter, had larger chests, and had insect-like wings… An evolved version of a fairy. Pixie? Let’s name them Pixies. So, a total of three species, including Pixies.
Even if all of them were hostile forces, it should be fine.
“Kkruk…!”
“Hey, be quiet. Quiet.”
The newly tamed imp. He was completely terrified. I shoved a leaf into his mouth and was about to resume observation when—
—Swoosh.
A noise came from behind us.
“Mehehe!”
“Meeee!”
Damn…!
I slightly turned my head and saw a few Satyros walking around.
Were they reserves prepared by those fighting the Lizardmen?
“Ma, Master.”
“Yes, I see.”
I softly answer to the whispering Sharan. The front was a battlefield. Behind were the reserves. And there were Pixies… This was not a good situation. But I had combat experience.
—…
I was tense but not too scared.
“Now, Sharan, when those bastards pass, we will sneak away. Got it?”
“Yes. Master. Sneakily.”
“Yes.”
“…!”
The imp also nodded.
Just as we were waiting for the moment.
“Mehehe! Mee!”
One of the bastards shouted, pointing in our direction!
That son of a gun!
“No way, this bastard! Found us immediately, this shit!!!”
“Meheng?!”
No need to hide anymore since we had been discovered! I stood up and shouted, and the one who found me stopped backpedaling and sat on his buttocks simultaneously!
“Mehehe!”
“Meeeeeee!”
The Satyros reserves aimed their stone axes at me and shouted.
—Meheheheheheheheheh!
Then, a roar was heard.
“Mehohe?”
“Shwaaaaa?!”
As the roar echoed, the attention of the Satyros and Lizardmen who were fighting on the battlefield turned to us. I grasped the whole situation and checked the escape route.
There was no option but to pass through the right flank of the reserves.
No problem.
I could certainly escape.
“Sharan. There, we run to the right. Understand? We kill all the bastards blocking the way, and we sprint.”
“Yes! Master!”
—Shaaaaaaaaat!
As Sharan roared, the enemies flinched. They seemed to be afraid of the Dryad, good.
We could escape.
Physically.
All of them were smaller than me. Honestly, in a one-on-one, I’d just win. I could surely break through. There were armies behind us, but how would the guys fighting amongst themselves track us?
“So Sharan! When I say to run, we run!”
—Haap!
I took a deep breath right away!
“Demon Breathhhhhhhhh!!!”
Firstly, I spouted fire to look visually intimidating! Break the enemy’s morale, smash the right flank of the reserves, and escape!
—Whooosh!
The spouted flame swept through the air, and I roared as fiercely as possible!
“Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiih!!!”
And just when I was about to run.
“Wha, Whaaaaa?!”
“Shwaaaaa?!”
“Hmm?”
Not only the Satyros reserves but also those who were fiercely fighting behind suddenly stopped their battle and started to be on guard against me as if they were scared.
“Mehehe!”
“Shwaaat!”
The Satyros were sounding anxious, and the Lizardmen were flicking their tongues. It was a threatening action, but I knew. Monsters made more noise when they were scared.
“Mehehet…!”
They were not trying to fight me. They were stepping back.
They were really scared now.
“Master? Are they scared? They are scared, right?”
“This.”
Did the Demon Breath work well?
It made sense. The opponent in front of them was bigger, emitted some kind of magic, and was a species they’d never seen before. They were likely to be on guard.
“Good.”
If I just ran away in this state, they would surely look down on me. It was better to bluff for now. Roughly calculating, I could act tough here without any problems. If a real problem occurred, I could run away then.
“This!!!!”
With that in mind!
“You bastards!!!!!!!!!!”
I roared and spouted fire again!
—Whooosh!
At that moment.
“Meheheheheheh?!”
“Shwaaaaat!”
The Satyros and the Lizardmen started to flee in confusion! Good! My intimidation worked well! I didn’t think it would work this well, but it worked splendidly!
—Dash!
The Satyros in front and those who were warring behind all of them retreated.
“Master! They all ran away!”
“Hehehe! This is my power!”
I planned to intimidate, and if it failed, just run, but it was a big success! Apparently, absorbing the power of the Barghest and becoming a bit stronger helped.
If I really fought, my limitations would have been exposed, but bluffing was really the best.
But.
“There are still some who haven’t run away.”
The Pixies were watching our way, with an appearance of being on high alert.
“Master, they seem to be scared too.”
“Seems so. Then, Sharan, let’s go back.”
After glaring at them for a while, I immediately turned around.
Let’s take a roundabout way back.
“Huh?”
But the tamed imp was unconscious. Nothing to do about it. I immediately picked the creature up.
“Sharan, we have to go around while we return. We also need to be very vigilant.”
“Go safely?”
“Exactly that.”
“Yes, Master.”
Thus, Sharan and I started our return.
While doing so…
—Flap Flap Flap.
Suddenly, the sound of flapping wings reached my ears, and I immediately looked back!
“Damn it! A Fairy?!”
A fairy was flying towards us! Sharan immediately got ready to attack! Oh, we could win if it was just one!
But…
“Hmm? Sharan, wait a second.”
“Master?”
“That creature. It’s carrying something.”
“Oh.”
The fairy had what looked like a section of bamboo? Something like a bamboo tube. The approaching fairy dropped the tube with a thud.
—Flap Flap Flap.
And it immediately left.
“What is it?”
“The fairy gave something?”
“Let’s check it out.”
I immediately checked the tube.
—Clatter.
Inside was a bamboo stick. It was rather large for a drawing tool, but when I picked it up…
There were characters written on it.
“Could this be…”
Was this some sort of letter?
The fairy gave a letter?
“Oh.”
Did the Pixies send this?
First of all, I couldn’t read the characters written on it.
“Sharan, can you read this?”
“Read? Sharan doesn’t know.”
“Hmm.”
Sending a letter, huh?
Was this a gesture for starting a conversation? They looked a bit humanoid, so it was clear they made contact like this first.
But now was not the time.
If we carelessly conversed, our limitations would be exposed. If we wanted to make contact, we needed to prepare more.
I immediately put the tube in my pocket.
“Sharan, let’s go back for now.”
“Yes, Master.”
After returning, I organized the information obtained this time. The appearance of other races. And the Pixies who sent a gesture of conversation.
It seems like another big thing has happened not long after the Barghest was killed.
Apparently, more diverse species lived in this jungle than I thought.
Naturally, diversity inevitably leads to conflicts. Humans caused world wars amongst themselves; it went without saying for different species.
The Satyros and Lizardmen were at war. I guessed the reason for the fight would be a dispute over rights. Everyone would fight to survive… Perhaps, we might soon be involved in that conflict as one of the factions.
“Master? Aren’t you sleeping?”
—Squirm Squirm.
Sharan, who was lying next to me, asked while fiddling with my private part. When you slept together like this, it naturally ended up in us touching each other.
Having gotten used to it, whenever we lay together, Sharan kept playing with it constantly.
“I should sleep. I was just thinking about what happened earlier in the day.”
“About Satyros and Lizardmen?”
“And the Pixies.”
“There were a lot of females.”
“Yes, there were.”
“Like Lumica, can Master have them?”
It would be nice if I could.
“Well, we’ll see about that. Anyway, Sharan, let’s inform Lumica about this news tomorrow. It could be dangerous if she is alone at the lake and they appear. She needs to be informed in advance.”
“Yes, Master.”
And also… I needed to kidnap some wild goblins. The number of imps had increased, so I should train them as skirmishers, too.
“Then let’s sleep, Sharan.”
“Yes, Master.”
Sharan kept fiddling with my private part until just before she fell asleep.
It was early in the morning when Sharan and I went to see Lumica.
“Uh.”
In front of the lake.
A human was standing there.
Moreover, it was an armed man.
“…”
Human.
Was it really a human?
I pondered this for a moment.
Lumica was in the center of the lake, only her eyes peering out, observing the armed man with a vigilant look.
The man attempted to enter the lake.
—Whoosh!
He turned towards us, seemingly startled.
“Mo, monster!”
Then he screamed in terror. I understood him because I had learned a bit of the language from Lumica.
—Swish!
Then, the guy hastily drew his sword… Damn it!
“Run!”
What the hell! Immediately, Sharan and I bolted!
“What’s going on!!!”
