Chapter 127
Investing Through the Status Window.
Episode 127: The Northern Region (3).
Before entering the room, Allen, who was guided to the lodging room, approached the Blind Saintess. Listening to her assessment came first.
“Sister, how is it?”
Allen thought Ordnung, who could see energy, might have noticed something, but surprisingly, his expectation was off the mark. The Blind Saintess tilted her head as if puzzled.
“…It’s strange. It’s a bit different from the last time. Nothing is connected.”
“Really? Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure. I checked multiple times.”
Her tone was filled with certainty. Allen also did not think that Ordnung had made a clumsy mistake. She had even checked multiple times…
This was definitely the Demonic Disease. Group Leader Ingmar exhibited most of the characteristics, and Allen could even confirm his reduced stats and [Weakness] trait through the status window. However, there was one curious point: there was no connection to a demonic beast.
…Did we miss something?
Since the symptoms of Demonic Diseases vary slightly depending on the demonic beast, Allen judged that there might be something he had not yet identified.
Still, now that the sun had set and their bodies were weary, they decided to rest well today and start working tomorrow.
The Allen-Mercenary Group, having roughly unpacked, enjoyed a hearty dinner at the dining hall and then dispersed to their respective rooms.
Allen lay on the bed, covered with a soft and cozy blanket made of sheared wool. As the warmth heated by his body wrapped around him, he felt incredibly comfortable. To be honest, even though he didn’t say it, he was shivering from the cold of the North.
Soon, Allen yawned a couple of times and quickly fell asleep.
…That night, he had a dream. A very erotic dream.
A very beautiful woman, moving her hips in a dazzling manner, drew out his semen as if it were a performance. He could do nothing but gasp in ecstasy.
…And early in the morning, Allen woke up feeling his lower body damp as if he had a wet dream.
“Did you sleep well through the night?”
“I had a very comfortable sleep.”
The next morning, after finishing breakfast, the two group leaders met again. Of course, it wasn’t just out of courtesy, but to take a closer look at the Demonic Disease.
Group Leader Ingmar was as scrawny and frail as Natasha had been, but fortunately, his mind was still intact. And unlike her, he didn’t have an outright aversion to sunlight. However, eating food seemed to be equally torturous for him. Still, he was resisting the Demonic Disease with considerable mental strength.
Allen glanced at the Blind Saintess who had accompanied him, giving her a signal with his eyes. As if to say, examine him thoroughly once more.
“Excuse me for a moment.”
Group Leader Ingmar, whose hair had turned gray from suffering the Demonic Disease, willingly offered his body as if to say, “Do whatever you need.” Ingmar seemed to trust Allen greatly, having roughly heard about him from Aidar the day before.
Once permission was granted, the Blind Saintess removed her blindfold and opened her profound eyes, which resembled the universe, to gaze at Ingmar. At that moment, even Ingmar, known as the Tiger of the North, couldn’t shake off the dizzying feeling of having his innermost secrets laid bare.
…However, no matter how meticulously the Blind Saintess examined him, she could not find the black thread connected to a demonic beast, as she did with Natasha. It was as if such a thing had never existed from the start.
Having completed her examination, the Blind Saintess put her blindfold back on. Beads of sweat dotted her forehead, showing the considerable effort she had expended to enhance her vision.
“…Is it over?”
“For now, yes, the preliminary examination is over.”
“What do you think? Can it be treated?”
Allen glanced at the Blind Saintess before answering.
“It’s still too early to say. The Demonic Disease is not something to be taken lightly. We need more time to examine it.”
“Ah, I see. I understand. I will cooperate as much as possible, so please do your best.”
“Understood. Thank you for your cooperation despite the difficulty. Now, please rest.”
The two men and women left the Group Leader’s bedroom. Vice Group Leader Anderson and the Northern youth Aidar, who were waiting outside the hallway, approached Allen and asked what had happened.
“It’s hard to say right now. We need more investigation… Let’s also postpone the negotiation a bit.”
“…Is it very serious, by any chance?”
“To say it’s not urgent would be difficult. Quite a bit of time has already passed… We need to do something as quickly as possible.”
“Please, I beg you. Please save the Group Leader.”
Allen lightly patted the Vice Group Leader’s arm, who was earnestly pleading, and then returned to the lodging room with the Blind Saintess.
The two entered Allen’s room and shut the door firmly. As soon as the door closed, the Group Leader looked at her sharply and immediately asked a question.
“Ordnung. What did you see? How much did you see? Was there no clue this time either?”
If she had seen something, she would have mentioned it back there. The fact that she put her blindfold back on without saying anything meant that there was no significant difference from what she saw before. Allen guessed this and asked again to confirm.
“Yes, I didn’t see it this time either. It seems a bit different from the Demonic Disease we experienced before.”
Hmm. Allen sat down on the bed with a small sigh. His thoughtful appearance suggested he had some inkling of what was going on.
“Do you have any idea what it might be…?”
“Well… there is something strange.”
“What do you mean?”
After a moment of thought, Allen continued speaking.
“When someone gets infected with the Demonic Disease, they must be connected to a demon beast. That’s the only way the demonic beast can feed on human energy and grow.”
“But I didn’t see anything at all.”
“That’s why it’s strange. Theoretically, that’s impossible.”
Allen thought it over meticulously once again. Then suddenly, the dream he had last night came to mind, and he started to wonder.
He sprang up from his seat, left the room, and went straight to find the Vice Group Leader. After asking for a moment of his time for an investigation, he posed a question.
“Do you often have erotic dreams?”
“…Pardon?”
An embarrassing question suddenly thrust upon him without warning.
“You don’t need to be embarrassed. It’s for the investigation of the Demonic Disease.”
After a few awkward coughs, the Vice Group Leader admitted that he had experienced such dreams recently.
“Please answer honestly. Was it occasionally or frequently?”
“…Actually, quite frequently. About once every two days… yes…”
“Thank you for your cooperation.”
Allen asked the same question to several other members of the Allen-Mercenary Group. And they all answered that they often had erotic dreams.
Lastly, he went to his team members to ask them if they had any erotic dreams last night.
“Oh, how did you know?”
“I also had an insanely erotic dream. Damn, I almost shriveled up.”
“I had a similar experience.”
As a result, out of the five male members, three had the same experience as Allen last night… The coincidence rate was too high to be mere chance.
Only then did Allen roughly understand the current situation. Why the Blind Saintess Ordnung couldn’t detect anything from Group Leader Ingmar…
The Group Leader called the Blind Saintess back to his room. As soon as she entered and closed the door, he bluntly said without any preamble.
“It’s a succubus’s minion.”
“…What?”
“The identity of the demonic beast. It’s highly likely to be a succubus’s minion. They live off the energy they consume in dreams.”
Succubus. A demon that stimulates the most primal instincts of humans and feeds off their energy.
However, the Blind Saintess had only vaguely heard of such beings; she didn’t know the details. Knowledge about demons was hard to come by unless you were a specialist… In that regard, Allen’s vast knowledge was truly incomprehensible.
“That’s why we couldn’t find the link. They are entities that come and go through dreams. In other words, they are only connected when we dream.”
“Ah, I see…!”
“Of course, my prediction could be wrong. So, come back at night. When Group Leader Ingmar falls asleep, we’ll investigate again… To see if my prediction is correct or not.”
Perhaps that was why the mage who came to cure the Demonic Disease couldn’t find any clues and returned empty-handed. After all, nothing could be found on the surface…
Of course, even if Allen considered the monster to be a succubus’s minion, he didn’t assume that it would be weak. From the start, monsters were creatures beyond expectations. Especially since it grew by feeding on the aura of Group Leader Ingmar, also known as the Tiger of the North, it was impossible to fathom how formidable it had become. Still, discovering such a clue was a stroke of luck.
…Your mistake was devouring my cock.
Allen was determined to exact a hefty price from this cunning demonic bitch for devouring his manhood.
I will make it clear just how terrifying Vermandois’s excessive profits are—you hear me?!
