by admin“–Therefore, the government doesn’t need to intervene in the market. Maintaining a balanced budget allows the market price mechanism to regulate the market size and allocate resources on its own. Do you all understand?”
After rambling and preaching for several minutes, I turned around to find the audience had long been devastated.
“Oh, o-oh. Tremendous knowledge. I’ve learned a lot.”
“Ugh….economics is hard….I don’t understand any of it…..”
“Ah, um. S-so, you’re saying the people are like pigs and dogs, so the answer is to unconditionally control and manage them?”
Hmm, nobody understood.
The last guy at least seemed to grasp some of the characteristics of classical economics.
I guess throwing classical economics at an era with no concept of economics at all was a bit much.
“Then I’ll end the lecture here. Thank you for listening to my inadequate content.”
–Clap clap clap clap!
As I gave a polite bow, a shower of applause poured down.
Perhaps to forget the disgraceful behavior they had shown just moments before, everyone clapped their hands enthusiastically.
The guy who was stuttering and the one who mentioned pigs and dogs, all together.
“May I ask when the results will be announced?”
“No, there’s no need to wait. I don’t think there’s any need to grade it.”
“Raemis-ssi, no, Instructor Raemis. I look forward to working with you from today onward.”
Still, it was worth showing off my future knowledge. I never expected them to unanimously declare my acceptance without a moment’s hesitation.
Did I just rattle off some unknown intellectual nonsense, and they’re pretending to be impressed to avoid getting criticized?
Well, whatever their true feelings, it’s all good as long as it helps me.
“Then, how about the employment contract…..”
“How about three years to start? Someone like you deserves to hold a teaching position for a long time.”
“How about working on a temporary basis and then earning tenure through performance….”
“Ah, that’s alright. I have many other things to do.”
Rejecting the other instructors’ recommendations and persuasion, I wrote a one-year contract. Since it’s the middle of the spring semester, I’ll only teach until next spring semester.
If the university on Earth had guaranteed me tenure, I would have bowed while accepting it, but this is another world.
What’s the point of getting employment security in a world that I’m going to destroy and ruin anyway?
I need to spend my time teaching kids preparing for my disruptive machinations.
“Are you really sure about this?”
“It won’t be easy to find a job like this anywhere else…..”
“If you change your mind later, sign an extension. I’m sure the administrative office will cooperate.”
Everyone was sad, but they seemed to understand when I insisted. No matter how good an opportunity is, what can you do if the person doesn’t want it?
“All the paperwork is done, are you going back right away? Or would you like to tour the academy?”
“If possible, I’d love to. It’s the workplace I’ll be working at from next week, so I’d like to take a look around beforehand.”
“Yes! Someone, please guide this person!”
* * * * *
Having completed the signing and sealing of the contract, I asked the guide to call Kallia, who was waiting outside the campus.
One of the faculty members who happened to be nearby without anything to do took on the role of our guide.
“This way, please. We’ll start by showing you the nearest buildings in order.”
“What is that spire? It doesn’t look like a church.”
“Ah, that’s an observatory built by an astronomy professor who used to work here 20 years ago. The telescope installed there is still the kingdom’s best–”
Like touring a famous tourist spot, we slowly inspected the inside of the academy.
The legacy left by past great figures, all sorts of buildings that have been expanded over the years, traces left by past events, and so on.
I observed and internalized the history accumulated in the academy, which had been operating for hundreds of years.
It was helpful that the guide was quite knowledgeable.
If I asked, he would answer almost anything right away.
“It’s really quite large. It seems even larger than the royal palace.”
“It’s incomparable. The area of this site is comparable to that of a small city.”
I kept talking as if I was curious, and Kallia took notes next to me.
Not missing anything whenever she saw a facility or object that seemed important.
She was filling up the thick notebook in an instant, and her momentum was downright frightening.
Perhaps because it had been difficult to enter until now, she intended to obtain as much information as possible on this occasion. It would be nice if she didn’t do anything too conspicuous.
“That white-walled building over there is the cafeteria. I recommend you visit it later when you have time! It’s cheap and incredibly delicious.”
“I’ll go if I have the opportunity while working. But, what about those students over there….?”
“…..Ah.”
Looking around here and there, I found myself in the middle of the academy before I knew it.
Just when my legs were starting to feel a little sore, I saw a group of students gathered far away.
Are they all going back to class after eating?
It doesn’t look like it, the atmosphere is ominous.
They don’t seem to be in the same group either, they’re roughly divided into two factions and confronting each other.
When I asked out of curiosity, the guide hesitated.
Could it be a hidden shame of the academy?
“I-it’s nothing. There’s a war going on these days, right? Because of that, the students’ relationships have worsened.”
Since they are talented people gathered from all over the continent, did nationality become the cause of discord?
I didn’t know that the young masters and ladies with strong family backgrounds were so full of patriotism.
Usually, they enjoy a life of luxury, not caring about the plight of the common people who are dying on the front lines, right?
At least, that’s the average of nobles/royals as far as I know.
“Still, to fight in such an open place? Is it worth abandoning their own dignity?”
Nobles consider their reputation to be tarnished even if they raise their voices and argue in front of others.
They are a race that lives and dies by honor and etiquette.
Are dozens of those guys gathering and trying to exchange blows?
When I asked again out of doubt, the guide looked around and lowered his voice.
“…..You can’t tell anyone about this, okay?”
“Don’t worry. Both of us are tight-lipped.”
“Originally, the discord wasn’t that bad. Even if there were conflicts between countries outside, there was a trend not to fight about it inside the academy. Because it interferes with education.”
Are they all trying to live in peace and harmony in a separate world?
The excuse sounds plausible, but it’s a hypocritical culture.
“But this war is, how should I say…. a bit different from the ones that have happened so far, right? The justification is also there, and even strange ideologies are spreading.”
“Ideologies?”
“Something about one people, one nation. I heard it’s a popular saying in the Helvetian peninsula these days, haven’t you heard of it?”
“I’ve heard of it.”
In fact, I know it better than anyone else. Because I spread it.
“Because of that, the students from Helvetia are all gathering together these days. They’ve become incredibly exclusive towards foreigners.”
“Oh dear. The more they do that, the more they’ll be ostracized in the academy.”
“If it was just them, it would be fine, but other students from other countries are becoming similar, as if they’ve been influenced. They gather by nationality and push out outsiders.”
Hmm, that’s a bit unexpected.
“I’m afraid the academy might be torn apart by country.”
The guide shrugged his shoulders and bowed to us, saying he had to leave.
“I’m sorry, but I have to go stop the students. I’ll give you this map, so take your time and look around!”
As the guide walked away and we were left alone, I looked at Kallia and smiled deeply.
“It seems everyone is very interested in my writing?”
“It seems so. I haven’t received a report that nationalism has spread to other countries.”
What does it mean that everyone is gathering by country and exclusivity is strengthening? It’s a sign that nationalism is spreading.
A variant that I didn’t create, an independent derivative, is spreading to various parts of the continent.
‘It’s an expected situation.’
I wasn’t particularly surprised.
It was something I thought would happen someday anyway. Rather, I felt a little proud.
The ideology I spread was just content that was appropriately tailored to the Helvetian people.
But it’s been quite a while since it was released, so it wouldn’t be strange if a country tried to copy it.
By adapting it to their own circumstances and emphasizing national characteristics.
If properly adapted, it would be extremely useful for governance and war, so if they had the idea, everyone would have tried it.
‘Oh my, it’s going to be fun teaching at the academy.’
To educate those who blindly believe in writings created by others to stir up trouble, as I please.
It seems like there won’t be a dull moment while I’m here.
* * * * *
And then the following Monday.
The glorious first lecture.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Instructor Raemis, and I’ll be in charge of the Finance course from today.”
Not many students gathered in the lecture hall.
About thirty people?
Since the previous instructor suddenly disappeared and a new one is in charge, everyone’s expression is full of distrust.
‘It’s a natural phenomenon.’
I guess there’s no other way right now. I have no choice but to prove my skills and gradually build trust.
Still, I hate it when things take a long time, so I’ll have to throw out a simple bait.
“It’s been quite a while since the semester started, right? You haven’t been able to make progress because there was no one to teach you.”
After skimming through the textbook, I wrote a large math problem on the chalkboard.
[When n is an integer greater than 3, there are no integer solutions (x, y, z) that satisfy x^n + y^n = z^n.]
“So, I’m going to give you all a quiz. Anyone who proves this problem or finds a counterexample will get an A, regardless of their exam score or attendance. The deadline is the end of this spring semester.”
You guys should have your brains broken once too.
