    Chapter Index

Tei observed the situation, Reina was being transported with an electric eel shoved in her vagina, and the Hero was still in her disgraceful pussy dance state, waiting for the right moment. Only Gara moved to resolve this situation.

    First, Tripol.

Gara had rushed over in an express carriage to meet him—the man the Hero was trying to marry, the one who had gotten her pregnant…

“What is this… This is completely different from what I heard…”

It was supposed to be a land of beautiful wheat fields where the sweat of laborers shone… What he had heard made the current scene all the more strange.

    Where were the wheat fields?

    Where were the smiling laborers?

For some reason, the surroundings were covered in yellow scorch marks, and old corpses were strewn about, let alone any laborers. It was a sight that almost made him want to utter some absurd nonsense like, “With this many corpses, next year’s harvest will be a bountiful one.”

‘Farming tools, not military weapons… And the ones who fell are demi-humans… Was there a peasant uprising?’

On the outer side of the not-so-high city walls, things like rakes and wooden sticks were embedded, giving a faint idea of how the battle had been fought. Farming tools, not weapons, stuck in the city wall—this was not a normal situation. Compared to the fallen demi-humans, there were fewer of them, but there were clearly knights lying dead as well, so he cautiously advanced through the broken main gate and took in the situation inside the city.

‘Did the defense fail… However, the corpses scattered inside seem recent. Are they in the middle of burning and cleaning up the interior… is that what’s happening?!!’

    Hup!

He exhaled in a single breath and swung his blade.

    “Bugo!”

    “Gihiiii!!”

Despite being a heavy greatsword, it moved with such grace that it flashed through the air without even a whisper of sound. The heads of two demi-humans who had been silently approaching Gara from behind, as he stood pressed against the main gate observing the situation, were sent flying, yet not a single drop of blood stained his blade.

“Farming tools… and demi-humans… But Tripol was supposed to use human laborers. The fact that demi-humans have swarmed here… is it someone’s scheme, or did they flow in from surrounding territories…”

But there was no need to wonder.

    Gara was no fool.

“For something like this to happen in the lands of the man who will be the Hero’s husband, it must be the work of the Demon King’s army. Furthermore, the armor of the fallen knights bears the crest of the Kingdom’s army. Does that mean the First or Second Prince is here…”

Knowing the personalities of the two princes, he tentatively concluded which one was here and stepped into the city. The air was thick with the smell of burning corpses, and the sounds of running and shouting could be heard intermittently. The enemy was not organized and didn’t act in groups. Thanks to this, while some demi-humans avoided Gara as he waddled around in his onion armor, others attacked him individually.

    “Gugut?!”

Naturally, the fate of those who charged him alone was all the same.

One swing, one kill. Gara felt no tension whatsoever.

‘Is there no one commanding these troops? “Indiscriminate, large-scale raid” seems to be the perfect description. The demi-humans managed to get inside the city, but now they seem to be wandering around aimlessly, unsure of what to do… And unless I’m imagining it, their eyes look like they’re victims, too.’

At the end of Gara’s gaze, he could see a group of demi-humans—who had surely killed knights to get this far—gathered together, giving a speech about sparing the people. His guess that they themselves didn’t understand the situation and had been driven to attack for some reason was correct.

‘I don’t have time to stand around looking.’

While there were groups of demi-humans acting rationally like that, there were also others still chasing people and committing murder. Several of them, too excited to think straight, charged at the stoically moving Gara, only to have their heads chopped off and sent rolling on the ground. Seeing the state of things, he figured this couldn’t be resolved with words and headed for the largest burning building.

It was his first time in Tripol, but following the logic of [largest building in the city = building of the city’s ruler], heading toward the biggest fire was the right choice. Sure enough, a group of maids came running out of the blazing mansion, brandishing small blades and blood-stained aprons. Despite the situation, they seemed to have survived; aside from being exhausted and flustered, they all looked unharmed.

“Hh, heh, hueh?! A-a knight! Are you a knight of the Kingdom?!”

“A maid… No, I’m a wandering knight who came to Tripol for personal reasons…”

“It doesn’t matter which! Are you here to help us?!”

“Of course. You seem to be maids of the Tripol family. Where is the Head of the Family? I saw knights of the Kingdom… Does that mean a prince is here as well? I have business with him, so I thought I’d meet him and offer my protection.”

“Y-you mean Lord Tanjelo and Prince Rius?! Due to certain circumstances, the Head of the Family has fled to the forbidden zone! Prince Rius is treating his wounds in the adjacent mansion, which hasn’t burned down yet! There are surviving knights there, too! Th-thanks to them, we’ve barely managed to survive within the mansion grounds, but…!! Ugh~! During the sudden attack, we let Lord Tanjelo escape far away all by himself~!”

‘So that’s why the maids are running around unharmed.’

The city’s main gate had been breached, but they were holding out inside the mansion’s walls. It seemed half the demi-humans who entered the city didn’t understand the situation themselves and hadn’t thought to kill all the knights.

‘The fact that this Tanjelo fellow alone fled far away must mean the target was indeed the Head of the Tripol Family. The Hero wouldn’t have stayed quiet after being captured, so the lack of any rumors or news must be for this reason.’

Having a loved one taken hostage during a war was something that had happened time and again.

It was nothing new, nothing surprising. He felt no emotion at such tactics.

‘Cunning bastards. Their methods haven’t changed one bit over the years.’

In that sense, Gara’s arrival here was fate.

    “Where is the forbidden zone?”

“Th-there! Go straight down that main road and then turn left! You’ll see a mountain of trash…!! Anyway, it’s the place you’d think is the filthiest in this city!! The center of that place is the forbidden zone!!”

    “That’s a strangely hard-to-understand way of putting it…”

“But there’s no other way to explain it! You’ll know it when you see it! P-please, save the Head of the Family! He’s finally found happiness, it would be a tragedy for him to die so senselessly! He might be a bit of a fool, but he’s such a kind person!”

‘And some information I didn’t really want to know…’

    “We’re begging you!”

    “…Understood.”

Only the maids seemed unaware of the expression on Gara’s face inside his onion armor. That’s why their fervent pleas came across so clearly. He understood that this Tanjelo fellow wasn’t a bad man, so he nodded, promising to rescue him. Then he leaped forward with a thud, turned at the spot the maid had indicated, and continued straight ahead.

‘This is hard to move in.’

The sight of an onion monster suddenly appearing, making loud thump, thump, thump sounds with its feet before vanishing like the wind, must have been nothing short of terrifying for any onlookers. The demi-humans who were arguing amongst themselves after invading the city saw it, shrieked in surprise, and fell backward. Thanks to that, not a single one of them charged at him.

‘It’s nice that no one’s attacking… but a pile of trash? Is there really something like that in the middle of the city…?’

As he was quietly grumbling about the hard-to-understand metaphor, he soon realized.

—The maid hadn’t been using a strange metaphor at all.

    “A pile… of trash…?”

A distance that would have taken a normal person a leisurely ten-minute walk, but took Gara’s sprint just over thirty seconds, was where he came face-to-face with a giant wall. Standing before the unrealistically massive pile of trash, Gara felt the urge to scratch his forehead. The fact that his thick helmet made even that impossible was annoying, but he now understood why this Tanjelo fellow had fled here.

‘This kind of natural fortress… this shouldn’t be inside a city, should it…?’

Looking around, he could see the demi-humans were also bewildered. The farming tools used in the battle were stuck deep in the trash pile and wouldn’t come out, and when they tried to climb it with their claws and nails, they were killed by falling food waste or stones from above, so they didn’t get close.

‘Looks like there’s a separate entrance. There seem to be residents inside, so I’d better not just smash my way in…!!’

    Fwip!

    “—Whoa?! Wh-what the hell!”

    “Are you a demi-human too!”

“I’m a knight. Can’t you tell by looking?”

“H-how are we supposed to tell?! A weird knight like you!”

Feeling no need to smash it or go around, he simply jumped up and infiltrated it. The homeless men standing watch on top shrieked in surprise at the sudden appearance of the onion armor, but realizing he wasn’t an enemy, they immediately relaxed and listened to the self-proclaimed knight’s words.

“I heard the head of this land is here. Do you know where he is?”

“Th-th-that plague god! Look what a mess we’re in because of him!”

“If you’re here to save him, then take him away immediately! There’s no one but the weak here!”

“If he wasn’t here, those furry beasts wouldn’t have come looking for him!”

The way they spoke so freely about the lord who ruled this land suggested they had already suffered all sorts of hardships. They seemed to have noticed that the demi-humans’ movements were following Tanjelo’s whereabouts, so he immediately headed for the tent the homeless men were pointing at.

Was it a pointless digression to mention that this tent was the very place where Reina had once been violated…?

“Hey, is the Head of the Family here? If so, answer…”

    “…Who’s there!”

Perhaps happy to have been found so easily after hiding in this trash heap, Gara poked his head into the tent without much suspicion, and in that instant, a short blade scraped against his helmet.

“That was dangerous. If it had been anyone else, they would have been hurt.”

“What is this bulky armor… There was no one like this in the prince’s knight order…”

‘A dark elf maid… Come to think of it, the maids I just met were also dark elves…’

There stood Noah, her face more haggard than the maids outside, as if she had been fighting longer than the others. The dagger she held in a reverse grip was caked with dried blood that wouldn’t fall off, and her pretty hair was not only singed and cut short, but she also had a scar on her cheek. Not wanting to fight such a woman, he raised both hands in a gesture of surrender, and only then did the sharp upward tilt of her eyes soften slightly.

“I am Gara. A former companion of the Hero. I came here because the situation in the Kingdom has taken a strange turn.”

“Gara… The legendary knight with the alias of ‘the Immovable’-!”

“I hear that all the time, but it’s an embarrassing alias.”

“M-my apologies. I never dreamed that one of the Hero’s companions would come to our rescue himself…!”

He considered saying that the Hero hadn’t sent him, but not wanting to complicate things in this situation, he cut straight to the point.

“What happened to the Head of the Family?”

“Lord Tanjelo has collapsed. He’s been infected with poison.”

“……Is he alright? His life isn’t in danger, is it?”

He was the man who would be the Hero’s husband. As her companion, as a family-like existence who had shared a bond with her, he wanted to avoid anything that would sadden her. He raised the tone of his voice in concern, and Noah gave a small smile.

“He’s fine… I sucked it out with my mouth and applied medicine… More importantly, I’d like to sort out the situation. Do you know what’s happened with the prince?”

“Over there, the demi-humans have stopped their attack and withdrawn, and it seems they’re just maintaining their defense for now. Most of the aggressive demi-humans who entered the city are lingering around here, and the trash mountain is still under attack. I believe their objective is surely the head of the Tripol family.”

    “…Can’t something be done?”

“My original plan was to join up with you and gather in one place if you could move, but in this state, that’s impossible. The prince seems to be injured and the Head of the Family is in no condition to move, so I’ll intercept and annihilate the demi-humans myself. I’ll clean up the area first, so when things quiet down, use the residents here as a shield and return to the mansion. If you guarantee them money or safety, they’ll follow you obediently.”

    “Annihilate……”

The city’s defense must have been like a war, yet he spoke as if he could handle it all by himself. For a moment, she wondered if it was a bluff, but then she recalled Reina’s warning that a city like this would vanish in an instant if the Hero went berserk. Figuring the Hero’s companions must have similar abilities, she decided to set aside her common sense for a moment…

    “Is there another problem?”

    “Ah, ahh… Yes… No… If you can annihilate them… thank you…”

“I hope you’ll be generous and turn a blind eye to any signs of me acting violently.”

    “Understood.”

    “Then……”

The onion armor vanished from before her eyes.

    “……? ……?! ……Huh?”

    GUUUUNG!!

    “Muek?!”

The mass of armor that looked so heavy it should have been difficult to move was already gone. Instead, a tremendous roar came from outside, and the ground shook, causing Noah’s body to pitch forward. Even though she was inside the tent, the mat was dirty, leaving a black mark on her face. Every time the world shook from Gara’s violence and she fell, her cheeks got dirtier, but this pain actually brought her a sense of relief.

With such raw violence, the demi-humans would surely be swept away more easily than leaves in the wind…

Peeking her head out of the tent, she saw the homeless men who had climbed atop the trash pile cheering as if it were a siege, and beyond the trash wall, the corpses of demi-humans were flying through the sky. With each thunderous crash, like a giant stomping on a dwarf, the debris of buildings and paving stones flew about, and she understood why he had asked for forgiveness for acting violently. She also realized that if a monster like that truly went on a rampage, not a single building would be left standing in Tripol.

“……I see. He’s on a whole other level, as expected.”

Relieved to have her safety guaranteed by that monster, she began to prepare a cart to move Tanjelo. With this, the safety of Tanjelo, one of the Hero’s weaknesses, was as good as secured.

Afterward, Gara would hear about the situation inside the royal castle from the Second Prince, and then all that would be left was to figure out how to rescue the child in the womb… but fortunately, Reina was already on her way to handle that.
