Chapter Index

    “Helmont?”

That was what came out of Silverna’s mouth the moment she saw the man outside the wall.

No matter how she looked at him, his appearance perfectly matched that of a Helmont, which was bewildering, but…

She had never seen this man before in her life.

After all, she had seen everyone, from the eldest Lohengrin, to the youngest Edel.

Even when recalling the deceased Helmont, like Alois, this man’s appearance didn’t ring a bell.

    And yet, for some reason…

    He feels a little more…

    Like the ‘real’ thing…

Silverna hurriedly shook her head off such thoughts.

    Stop thinking unnecessary things.

Right now, protecting the wall is my priority.

The Malidean Wall was bustling with activity, as if announcing that they had been waiting to repel the Transcendent Race’s offensive.

There were vitalities in their steps and actions, showing that they much preferred to see their enemies right in front of their eyes than aimlessly waiting like they had been doing.

The only variable they had to face was the storm-like wind.

It wasn’t magic, but it was something that held tremendous power, swirling around the wall.

The gale, which seemed capable of swallowing even people, hindered them from easily forming their usual battle formation.

    “Miss! Are you alright?!”

Hearing Anna’s question from beside her, Silvena nodded in response.

In this tense moment, she firmly gripped her spear with both hands and stood up abruptly, breaking her crouching position.

    “Miss?!”

Though her slender body seemed like it might be blown away by the gale, her two legs stood firm.

White Aura supported both her legs, allowing her to boldly straighten her back and shout.

“Do you think the Northern Wall would cower before the enemy?!”

At the female warrior’s shout, other soldiers slowly stood up and took their positions.

Even if it was due to the gale, crouching before the enemy wasn’t something that sat well with her.

After all, these small things could affect morale greatly. Hence why she responded appropriately.

    “…”

Judging that their attempt to subdue the wall through the gale had failed, the Transcendent Race’s forces slowly began to take action.

“There’s no need to be nervous! As long as we respond as usual, there won’t be any problems!”

After all, her father, Uldiran Cardias, would arrive soon.

Moreover, she was confident that as long as there were no internal issues, the Malidean Wall would never fall.

    Because…

[Do you know why they didn’t just pick a fight with us head-on?]

[It’s because their forces are lacking. If we engage in a direct power struggle with them, we’re bound to win.]

[That’s why when they come at us head-on, it means they have nothing left.]

Isaac, someone who could be called an expert when it came to the Transcendent Race, had said so.

[They absolutely cannot break through you.]

Even I, who’ve lived in the North all my life, couldn’t be sure of such a thing, you fool.

It was a statement that made her chuckle when she recalled it. After all, she had experienced firsthand how terrifying the Transcendent Race was.

She had crossed spears with them several times and had to acknowledge their strength.

No matter how much pride she took in the Northern Wall, she still couldn’t believe in ‘absolute’ when dealing with those beings that transcended humans, and yet…

He’s talking as if he’s seen us winning before…

Isaac’s trust in the Northern Wall was the source that allowed Silverna to smile confidently now.

The Transcendent Race charged towards the wall.

Some had beast-like forms, some had wings, some resemble humans, and so on.

The variety in their appearances made them feel similar to Demonic Beasts.

But of course, this wasn’t a Demonic Beast subjugation, but a war.

In the back were sorcerers, bombarding their side with blood-red paint-like sorcery from their staves.

When dealing with Demonic Beasts, at most they’d just throw rocks at them, but in this case…

    Boom! Boom! Boom!

They were throwing out various sorceries instead.

But that was just a trivial bombardment that couldn’t even scratch or crack the Malidean Wall.

“The rocks thrown by Demonic Beasts are more threatening than this.”

    “Right.”

Anna, who had taken position beside Silverna, muttered before lifting her head.

“The flying ones are the problem.”

Those guys’ tough skin made even arrows useless. Despite them showering those guys with arrows, they landed on top of the wall without much damage.

    “Don’t fight them alone!”

Their individual combat ability was overwhelmingly superior. While not every one of them was absurdly strong, they were still stronger than ordinary soldiers.

The Malidean soldiers, who had already finished preparing to fight the Transcendent Race, began to respond to the enemy in groups of three or five.

    “Hup!”

Silverna’s spear soared high into the sky. It pierced the chest of a crow-like Transcendent.

    “Gaaak?!”

The creature was then pulled to the ground as if being sucked into the Aura clinging to the spear while screaming.

    “Ha!”

She then retrieved her spear with her Aura before swinging it again at the pulled Transcendent, striking it down.

    As expected of a genius.

It had been only half a year since she focused on training her Aura.

The woman whom the Ink Sword had called a genius many times had achieved brilliant growth.

Her spear now flew towards another Transcendent that had landed on top of the wall.

Anna, on the other hand, was gathering soldiers and running along the wall.

“This way! They’re climbing up from this side!”

While everyone’s attention was drawn towards the sky, Anna commanded the soldiers to throw their spears, or thrust them at the Transcendents that were climbing the wall.

It was a chaotic battlefield above and below, but everyone on this side responded in unison.

At that moment, a single spear cut through the sky.

    Crackle!

Imbued with lightning, it instantly blackened and knocked down the surrounding Transcendents.

The spear, which seemed like it would endlessly advance forward, eventually returned along the same trajectory it had come.

    At its end…

    Thwack!

Was a man, who caught the spear with his hand.

The guardian deity protecting the wall.

    Uldiran Cardias had arrived.

    “Not bad.”

They had used Brikala’s byproducts to make Isaac’s tachi.

But of course, the large Demonic Beast’s remains wouldn’t be used to just make one sword.

    “The margrave has arrived!”

“Don’t retreat! We are humanity’s wall!”

“Let’s protect our families! Protect our country! Defend our peace!”

With Uldiran’s appearance, the atmosphere changed dramatically. No matter how prepared they were, they still struggled a little due to the Transcendent Race’s surprise attack, but now…

Uldiran’s appearance made the soldiers feel like everything would be resolved.

    “As expected of Father.”

Silverna smiled brightly, swelling with pride.

After Arandel Helmont’s death, many had praised that a new era was coming and that the Golden Generation would protect the kingdom from now on, but…

    In here…

The last pillar of the old era.

The guardian deity protecting the North was still firmly holding his position.

On top of the highest tower of the wall.

Where Brikala had once stood, now Uldiran stood, looking down.

As expected, the Transcendent Race’s force didn’t have a large number.

Compared to the Great Colony, their number was cute even, but the quality of each of their troops was incomparably higher.

Nevertheless, Uldiran didn’t particularly feel like they would lose.

As long as he stood atop the wall.

It would never fall, no matter what.

    “Hmm…?”

While charging Brikala’s lightning to shoot his spear again.

Uldiran’s eyes caught the red-haired man at the center of the group.

Seeing him, he couldn’t help but see him in awe.

    “Helmont?”

Like Silverna, even he was reminded of Helmont when he saw the man.

Moreover, the man was also looking at him, and their gazes met. Uldiran felt his desire for battle bubble up in his chest, but…

    “What a shame.”

They were at war now, and he was this side’s commander.

He wanted to vent his frustrations for never surpassing Arandel Helmont, but this just wasn’t the occasion for it.

To be faithful to his role, Uldiran threw his spear again.

    His target was the sorcerers.

The blood-red paint-like substance they kept pouring out was gradually coloring the Malidean Wall red.

Though there wasn’t any particular damage to the wall, he still decided to dispatch them quickly.

There’s no way they’re doing this without any meaning.

Sorcerers were still one of the forces that humans couldn’t quite grasp.

They looked similar to mages, but the Transcendent Race generally never handled mana.

Which meant, what they were using wasn’t magic.

And yet they achieved feats that were impossible to achieve with magic, like body regeneration, Vassalization, or those life force manipulation.

    Crackle!

With a sound like the sky being torn apart, the lightning spear flew towards the sorcerers.

However, the spear didn’t reach the sorcerers, instead bouncing off and embedding itself in the ground.

The red-haired man had deflected Uldiran’s spear with his weapon, his long hair fluttering.

    “Oh?”

The corners of Uldiran’s mouth slowly turned up.

He too, looked Uldiran and silently stepped forward.

    *   *   *

When Isaac and Clarisse’s group returned to the capital…

They received news that shook them to the very core.

    “The Malidean Wall…disappeared…”

Indeed. It didn’t collapse, or was destroyed.

    It literally…

    Vanished without a trace.
