I’ll Just Do It Myself
[Combat Start]
Rumble –
I hear the sound of a room being added.
Looking at my phone, a third square has been created on the opposite side of the zombie room.
I decided to wait in my room for now.
No matter how I look at it, I seem stronger than the zombie, but rushing in without even knowing what the enemy is would be a poor strategy.
I waited while pointing the CCTV at the zombie room, and soon the door on the opposite side opened.
And what appeared was a humanoid being of similar size to the zombie.
‘A person… is it? A dwarf?’
Not a child.
Humans whose growth is incomplete have heads that are large compared to their bodies.
They are only short in height; their body proportions appear to be those of an adult.
As soon as the enemy confirmed the zombie, they pulled a dagger from their waist.
The zombie also screams upon the appearance of an opponent.
“Kieeeek! Kiek!”
The sound heard from beyond the door adds realism.
‘Should I just watch directly?’
While I was having such thoughts, the zombie rushed at the opponent.
There’s no such thing as trading blows with each other like you see in games.
The two became entangled and fought like dogs.
The enemy pushed away the zombie’s face and stabbed it repeatedly with the dagger.
Perhaps because it doesn’t feel pain, the zombie just lunges wildly.
‘Looks like two animals fighting.’
Pushing, stabbing, falling.
At the end of that fierce battle, one of the zombie’s arms was severed after repeated stabbing.
The dwarf smiles in victory.
They were also a mess, but in the end, they managed to prevent being bitten.
I clicked my tongue.
‘Are they kidding?’
I can fully understand the low-level fight.
Looking at how they fight, let alone their physical abilities, their intelligence seems severely low.
But it’s unreasonable for the zombie to lose like this.
Doesn’t this mean that if I, the ‘Summoner’, don’t step forward myself, the zombie is trash that can’t even pass the tutorial?
‘Feels like a gacha pull fail…’
I opened the door.
Clank –
At my appearance, the zombie and the enemy simultaneously turn around.
The enemy flinched and soon raised their dagger towards me. They judged that I was more threatening than the zombie.
Usually, someone with a weapon has an overwhelming advantage.
“Okay. You want an item match, huh?”
I took about 2 steps forward and picked up something that had fallen on the ground.
It’s the zombie’s arm.
The grip isn’t great, but it seems it can fully function as a blunt weapon.
Whoosh – Whoosh –
Swinging the zombie’s arm makes a wind sound.
My eyes met the enemy’s.
‘What are you looking at?’
I ran forward and swung the blunt weapon.
Whoosh – Thwack!
They didn’t even have time to defend.
In fact, if the physical difference was this much, blocking wouldn’t have made much of a difference anyway.
The enemy, hit in the head, rolled about twice and crashed into the corner.
And then didn’t move at all.
A natural result.
Looking at height alone, I’m nearly twice as tall, and considering build, it’s like being hit by a car.
I turned my body and looked at the zombie.
“Hmm…”
Looking at the blunt weapon in my hand, it’s completely broken.
It doesn’t seem recyclable.
“Well used.”
I threw the arm to it.
The zombie hurriedly approached, picked up its arm, and hugged it tightly.
Buzz –
A phone notification came, so I checked the screen.
[Make Zombie]
[Feed]
Two options are floating above the enemy, which appears to be a corpse.
‘Ah… these guys turn into zombies when they die?’
The zombie drools while looking at the corpse.
But maybe because my command hasn’t been given, it’s just watching my reaction.
‘Whether it’s one piece of trash or two…’
Regarding ‘Zombie Summoner’ itself, I should still reserve judgment.
Usually, in games or manga, you can command all sorts of monsters as zombies, right?
But the basic zombie is indeed trash.
Nothing seems like it would change just by adding one more.
“Okay, eat up.”
I pressed the [Feed] button.
Honestly, I pressed it half expecting it to somehow upgrade the zombie.
Trash is just trash, no matter how much there is.
It’s much better if at least one of them becomes somewhat useful.
Nom – Nom – Chew chew chew.
Seeing it eat so voraciously almost made me a bit squeamish, but when I thought of it as feeding dog food to a dog, I felt nothing.
It was about the same level of emotion as when I saw a wild boar from the back mountain eat a monkey that had escaped from the zoo when I was young.
‘Then is it over?’
Seeing that the [Claim Reward] button is activated, it seems I can consider this stage finished at least.
I waited without pressing the button until the zombie finished eating the corpse.
The result was so-so, but it did try its best, didn’t it?
I’ve experienced societies that treat effort as nonexistent just because the results were disappointing, to a disgusting degree.
I have no intention of becoming that kind of boss.
The zombie, which had been gulping down the meat, dug out the corpse’s brain and brought it to me.
Its posture looked exactly like it was offering it to me.
‘So this is what a brain looks like?’
“Hmm… no. You eat it.”
At my words, the zombie jumped up and down happily, then chewed and crunched it.
Is this what it feels like to feel full just by watching someone eat?
Anyway, at least I don’t feel hungry watching the zombie eat.
“If you’re done eating, let’s go.”
I pressed [Check Reward].
[Random Lowest Grade Melee Weapon]
[Random Lowest Grade Armor]
[Random Lowest Grade Skill]
The word ‘weapon’ stands out more than the others.
Skills are also interesting, but I can’t guess what their effect will be.
‘Right. This makes sense. Telling me to fight without even giving me a weapon crossed the line.’
With a happy heart, I pressed [Confirm].
[Tutorial Completed.]
A bright light enveloped me.
And when I opened my eyes again, I was sitting on a chair in a dark room.
It’s a familiar background.
‘Ah… back here again?’
The difference is that my butt is sore.
At least that’s a relief.
I checked the rewards first.
[Small Claw], [Small Helmet], [Leap]
When I touched the Claw on the phone, a small weapon appeared before my eyes.
I looked at it from all angles, but no matter how I looked, it wasn’t something I could use.
‘So… it’s weapons and armor for the zombie?’
The Helmet is the same.
I summoned it and checked, but it’s definitely not a size that would fit on my head.
‘Then what’s Leap?’
Skills cannot be summoned.
Instead, seeing the ‘Grant’ button, it seems I can give the skill to a summoned mob.
“Haa…”
Come to think of it, it might be obvious.
What kind of reward would I get when my job is ‘Summoner’?
But it’s okay.
I lifted the chair I was sitting on.
Isn’t there a good weapon provided right here?
I lifted the chair and swung it a few times.
Whoosh – Whoosh –
‘Good grip. Good weight. Good durability.’
“Hmm… excellent.”
I put the chair down and sat back on it.
How great is this practicality?
It’s a weapon, and a resting place.
Above all, I somehow get the feeling it will be refilled with a new one every time I clear a round.
‘Then will the severed arm also be refilled?’
I took out my phone and checked the zombie’s status.
A zombie icon is floating on the right side of the screen.
It seems it’s changed so I can summon the zombie by dragging it into the room.
‘I can choose the placement location…’
I raised my head and scanned the room.
I didn’t know because it was dark, but this time there are doors on all 4 sides.
Just in case, I tried to open the closed doors, but failed.
‘Doesn’t matter, I guess.’
I appropriately chose any room and summoned the zombie.
Rumble –
Familiar noise.
And as expected, when I turned the doorknob in that direction, it opened well this time.
Clank –
Behind the door is the zombie I just saw.
It’s not that I recognized its face, but it’s missing an arm.
‘Ehehei… the zombie isn’t refilled.’
Thinking about it, it probably doesn’t matter much.
Since there’s only one Claw, it can only be worn on one hand anyway.
I put the Helmet on it and granted it [Leap] as well.
“Hey. Try leaping.”
As if it understood, the zombie jumped.
The zombie leaped as high as its own height and then landed.
‘About 1 meter?’
The skill seems useful, but I still don’t know if it has value as a combatant.
Its center of gravity is also off, making it look a bit awkward when walking.
If there’s anything unique, something is growing out convexly from its severed right shoulder.
‘Did it regenerate by being fed?’
Thinking that way is rational.
To call it recovery according to round clear is regeneration that’s too tiny, like a mouse’s tail.
I patted the zombie’s shoulder.
“You got invested in, so let’s work hard.”
“Kikkeck keck.”
“Hmm… okay.”
‘What did it say?’
Will I be able to understand it later if my Summoner ability increases?
It’s not very important.
“Alright. Let’s go in.”
I placed my hand on the [Combat Start] button on the phone screen.
Press.
Rumble –
The direction of the sound is towards my room.
It seems the enemy is connected to the outermost random room.
‘Ah…! My chair!’
I quickly turned my body and headed towards my room.
The moment my hand touched the chair, the door on the opposite side opened.
Three individuals of the dwarf I saw earlier.
Each is holding a dagger.
I quickly made a calculation in my head.
‘Since it grew about 20cm after eating one… if I feed it all of them, will it regenerate up to its elbow?’
That’s something I’ll find out starting now.
I brought the chair down on the one in front.
Thwack!
The enemies are taken aback by my size.
Exploiting that opening, I immediately swung the chair at the next one.
Thwack!
And the moment I gave the last one a glance, the one-armed zombie leaped and plunged the Claw into its stomach.
“Kikekkeck!”
The dwarf pushed the zombie away and staggered.
His face is deathly pale.
Seeing that his breathing is quite ragged, it seems that besides the injury, poison is also taking effect.
‘Ah? Right, zombies weren’t originally physical units but poison-type units, were they?’
Suddenly, the one-armed zombie looks quite useful.
Good, huh?
As if announcing the end of combat, messages appear consecutively on the phone.
