Chapter Index

The reason I didn’t use fireworks often was simple.

It was because I didn’t know what would happen if I started the fire carelessly.

Fire is great for zombies, but it’s also great for survivors.

The saying that burning all thatched roofs to kill bedbugs was exactly right.

So, most people used fire as a last resort.

Write it when everything is settled.

Or is it really used when there is no other way to overcome a crisis?

But here there was no need for that.

“I’ve never done weeding before, well. It will be fine.”

If necessary, I thought I could set fire to look around here.

The fire will not spread throughout the city anyway.

The moss covering the exterior walls of the building will not burn easily because it retains moisture.

Things like vines that impede passage will burn away quickly, making it much more comfortable.

“Now that it’s like this, should I come around at least once?”

Now that we’ve roughly seen how moss and vines burn in fire, it’s time to look at other plants.

It seemed like it would be a good idea to tear down some street trees and set them on fire.

I thought it would be a good idea to light all the plants in sight and then think about it.

There may be plants that should not be burned.

Why, there is a black fruit that I found with Noh Chang-hoon.

There are some things that can be used as a substitute for oil.

Looking at things like that, I definitely needed to be careful.

So, I immediately got up from my seat, grabbed my simple luggage, and went out.

While I was leaving, I was thinking of doing some reconnaissance nearby.

It might be a good idea to look around this area to see if there are any dangers.

Or I could just walk around the building looking for information.

If you go to a place like the village office or town office, there will be something there.

    “Can I just do everything?”

Perhaps because I had rested well, my body was full of strength.

As such, it seemed like there wouldn’t be any problem if I kept moving.

So I immediately left the building and looked for things to burn.

There were plants all around, so it was even weirder that I couldn’t find it.

So, I picked up various types of plants from around me and roughly gathered them in one place.

Then, I lit it on fire and watched the reaction, and I was able to come to one conclusion.

If these plants retain moisture, they do not burn well and produce smoke.

However, if even a little bit of moisture is lost, it quickly burns into the contact area and disappears into ash.

Moreover, even if there was moisture, it did not last very long in the fire.

It burned down in an instant, and I crushed the only remaining street tree with my foot.

    “Movement shouldn’t be that uncomfortable.”

I thought I would just check the places I might pass by in advance and deal with the plants.

First of all, it would be a good idea to light all those street trees on fire.

and… okay. You could just cut down all the vines over there.

But I was wondering if plants could be removed with something other than fire.

A sword or strength. When I saw that I could tear the vines off with my hands, I thought it would be easy.

Still, just in case, I pulled out the Cheonmachong from my belt.

Then, he grasped the handle with both hands and swung wide toward the street tree.

    “Well, what is it… !”

I swung pretty hard, but the blade didn’t penetrate properly.

I looked at the street trees blankly and grumbled in bewilderment.

I think I swung quite hard, but the blade didn’t penetrate even a few centimeters.

And the Cheonmachong that was stuck in the street tree was not easily removed.

Still, it didn’t mean I wasn’t selected at all, but it was clear that I had worked so hard.

If anyone other than me were to swing the blade incorrectly, it would be the same.

Your weapon will be taken away and you will have to fight with your bare hands.

It seemed like it wasn’t just the street trees that were the problem, but other things as well.

The ivy-like things here were very sticky, so they did not fall off easily when held in hand.

So it seemed safe to assume that there were obstacles everywhere.

“I definitely need to warn you about this.”

If you make a mistake, you could end up losing even before the fight begins.

I’ve come up with a rough estimate up to this point, but there were a few more things I wanted to experiment with.

Just in case, I slowly lifted one foot.

And then he immediately pushed and kicked the street tree.

    “Wow, it’s really solid.”

It seemed like a lot of force was applied this time, but the street trees only shook for a moment.

Then suddenly I realized something strange.

It wasn’t like this when I peeled the bark off the street trees earlier.

At the time, it could be peeled off normally, but looking at this condition now, it was normal if it couldn’t be peeled off.

That means there is an effective way to destroy this street tree.

“And that means cutting with the grain.”

When I ripped the outer skin, I applied force vertically, not horizontally.

On the other hand, when swinging the Cheonmachong, force was applied horizontally.

Even when I pushed and kicked for the last time, I applied horizontal force.

So what happens if you cut it vertically or hit it?

“Well, you’ll figure it out if you try.”

I put the Cheonmachong in its sheath and raised the baton.

And after adjusting the handle for a moment, I swung it vigorously from top to bottom.

This time the taste was different. Also, the results were different.

The roadside tree could not withstand the baton, caved in and split into two.

But something was a little strange.

Normally, if a tree broke, that should have been the end of it.

But now, this street tree was leaking sticky green liquid from its broken wound.

    That was quite strange.

When a tree is injured, something like sap may come out, but I never remember seeing this much fluid flowing.

    “It’s okay, I guess… ?”

Even though I said that, I knew it too.

It was definitely a strange thing to pass up like this.

So, I watched for a while to see green liquid flowing from the street trees.

How long has it been like that?

Contrary to what I thought, nothing happened.

No, so what I was thinking was something like this.

I thought that the street trees would just regenerate or that the green liquid would cover the wounds.

However, a lot of sticky green liquid flowed out and that was the end.

“No, isn’t it just the end?”

I lightly hit the street tree with my baton, knocking it down.

I don’t know at what point it died, but it was quite a sight to see that huge tree fall down all at once.

But I couldn’t figure out why it died.

No matter how much I cut the tree with a baton, there was no way the tree’s vitality could have been this weak.

Even if you could die from drying out, there was no way you would die instantly.

Moreover, the speed of the street trees was strange.

Even though it was shattered, it was normal for there to be something like fiber inside.

But now only the outer bark of the street trees remains, and everything inside has turned into green liquid.

I looked at the green liquid for a moment, then picked up something that looked like a tree branch nearby.

He then put the green liquid on the tip of the branch and examined it closely.

It was clear that there was some secret hidden in this liquid.

Otherwise, there’s no way the street trees would suddenly become like this.

However, no matter how much I looked, I couldn’t see anything unusual.

    The smell wasn’t that bad.

Rather, it smelled like a familiar tree.

It didn’t even seem sticky there.

So I couldn’t figure out why the green liquid came out.

If all the street trees are melting and releasing liquid, there must be some reason.

    “This is going to burn.”

However, the green liquid seemed to be flammable.

I was constantly burning something and checking its properties…

I thought it would be a good idea to just burn this green liquid.

So I slowly lit the branch on fire and threw it into the puddle.

The pool of green liquid burned very quickly.

It burned so quickly in just a few seconds that I thought I had ignited the oil.

And soon after, something like acrid smoke rose from the puddle.

I watched the performance for a while and wondered what on earth was happening to make it like this.

“No, whatever. It’s not like a warning.”

Even if it was simply a liquid for treating wounds, it was ambiguous.

Because there was no reason for it to dry up and die, turning its insides into a green liquid.

So I kept looking at the puddle and rolling my head for a while.

It seemed like something was important, but I couldn’t figure out why it was important.

“If I had known this would happen, I would have asked Noh Chang-hoon.”

This world was something created based on Noh Chang-hoon’s novel.

And even if Noh Chang-hoon did not make it appear in the novel, it was reflected in this world even if it was just a concept.

Of course, since Noh Chang-hoon mentioned the existence of these plants, it was clear that he had a plan in mind.

If I had known such a plan, it would have been easier to deal with it.

“Well, I can’t help it. He probably didn’t even think about this.”

So it was a moment when I gave up and just tried to remember.

    suddenly.

The world around me turned green.
