Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    229

    After suspicions arose that
the Second Prince might be behind this incident, I followed Grandpa’s
    orders and handled the situation.

The first thing I did was to
threaten the commoners in that place.

I told them that if what
happened here leaked to the outside, they would disappear in an
instant, and their faces turned pale.

The fortunate part for me was
that Mane was at the centre of it all.

    Born a merchant, he quickly
realised how much trouble he could get into and cooperated with me
    eagerly.

    Thanks to that, dealing with
the Commoners’ Dormitory wasn’t too difficult. Mane ran around
desperately to avoid the danger he was facing.

The next thing I did was to
    find Luca.

It would be troublesome if the
Foolish Trio started gossiping about this incident everywhere.

So, their mouths needed to be
shut, but threatening those guys myself wouldn’t work, right?

    That’s where Luca came in.
With his high esteem among the commoners, he would certainly ensure
    the three kept the secret.

    “Those three? It’s not a
difficult task. I’ll make sure they keep the secret for life within a
    week.”

    That was Luca’s response after
I explained the situation to him.

If someone else had said this,
I wouldn’t have paid much attention, but considering it was Luca, I
couldn’t shake off the eerie feeling down my spine.

With him, it felt like he
might just bury them somewhere and deem the secret perfectly kept.

    ‘…I’m not saying to kill
them. You know that, don’t you?’

    “Professor Pedo. Let me
make it clear, I don’t mean for you to kill them. Even you understand
    that much, right?”

“Oh, is that so? I almost
    made a mistake.”

    …Was he serious?!

    Despite this minor issue, I
managed to get through it and asked Karia to find out why the Idiot
Representative thought the Second Prince was backing him.

    “Employer, I’m sorry,
getting the info is easy, but breaking through the Academy’s
security is a bit tough, you know?”

    ‘There’s a secret
    passage.’

    “Don’t worry. I found a
secret passage for you, I know you need it with those weak joints.”

    “Really? That’s news to
    me too.”

All of this was for handling
the matter as quietly as possible.

Grandpa said that even if we
report such trivial matters to the higher-ups, all we’d get is a
    simple apology.

But he also explained that it
would create a lot of enemies in the process.

‘You mean just pass it off
    as a small incident?’

    Grandpa’s words also seemed to
suggest he almost hoped the other side would act foolishly.

    No further explanation was
given, but I understood one thing.

From now on, I should entrust
    such matters to Grandpa.

Wow. How can a cleric be so
adept at politics? Or is it because he’s a cleric that he’s good at
    politics?

From what I heard from Johan
last time, the Church also seemed like the Demonic Realm.

    After going through a series
of processes, the next evening arrived.

To hear about the result of
the previous night, I went to the back alley where I got this
    information from Karia.

    “Congratulations, Employer.
The Second Prince seems to be completely smitten with you?”

    …What? What kind of crazy
    talk is that?

At first, I thought Karia was
spouting nonsense to tease me, but she wasn’t wrong. Though her words
might have been slightly exaggerated, they weren’t incorrect.

    The Second Prince had been
interested in me for quite some time. He went as far as to approach
me directly and extend his hand to me right around the end of midterm
    exams.

At the time, I thought I had
narrowly escaped the crisis, but it seemed the Second Prince had been
    watching me all along.

As a result, the Second Prince
learned about my duel with the First Prince at the Partan Festival
faster than anyone. He also knew that I had insulted the First Prince
    in front of everyone.

    “I heard the Second Prince
doesn’t like the First Prince very much.”

    Saying he doesn’t like him
    is putting it mildly.

    The Second Prince hates the
First Prince. Because they are competitors for the throne.

    Because he possesses
exceptional talents that make him a worthy adversary.

    Because he doesn’t even
    consider him as a rival.

The Second Prince I know wants
to trample the First Prince and laugh at him.

He must have been overjoyed to
hear about the First Prince’s humiliation.

    And how favourable he must
have felt towards the person who humiliated the First Prince.

    “It seems he wants to
bring you to his side by any means necessary.”

The moment I heard this, I
knew I couldn’t avoid the Second Prince anymore.

    Someday, somehow, the Second
Prince will stand before me, and I will likely utter the words Idiot
    Prince to his face.

    Sigh.
What can I do? It’s a hurdle I must overcome as long as I possess the
[Mesugaki] Skill. Instead of wasting energy on unsolvable problems, I
    should focus on other things.

    ‘But why…’

“But why did he try to
torment me? Is it because the Idiot Prince is truly an idiot?”

    “…Are you talking about
    the Second Prince?”

    ‘Yes.’

    “Who else?”

    “Employer, you’re not
planning to call the Second Prince an Idiot Prince to his face, are
    you?”

    I couldn’t answer that.
Although I didn’t want to, it was inevitable that I would.

    “Wow.”

    Karia murmured to herself
about needing to investigate the Second Prince’s faction further and
    then continued speaking.

    “To continue our
discussion, the one leading this event isn’t the Second Prince. It’s
someone within the Second Prince’s faction.”

    The people within the Second
Prince’s faction were more aware than anyone that the Second Prince’s
    favour was directed towards me.

    Previously, I was just a
talented individual, but now it’s different.

    Because I produced an
unprecedented result of defeating the First Prince with my skills,
the Second Prince’s attention is now focused on me. If I were to join
the Second Prince’s faction, it’s clear that he would cherish me.

    “It’s just a light move
of keeping potential rivals in check. They probably wanted to tarnish
    your reputation, Employer.”

So, to sum it up, they’re
preemptively trying to keep me in check because they think I might
    hinder their own power.

I couldn’t help but laugh at
    that.

Wow, I can really feel my
reputation has risen. If it were before, they wouldn’t have bothered
to keep me in check like this. Are they now threatened by someone
    like me?

    ‘Indeed.’

    Because the Second Prince is
interested in me, they are keeping me in check.

As long as he continues to pay
attention to me, their underhanded schemes will keep coming from all
    directions.

After all, as they say; Birds
    of a feather flock together.

    Only idiots gather around an
    idiot….

    Huh?

    While thinking about it, a
clever idea suddenly came to mind.

If the reason I’m being kept
in check is because the Second Prince favours me, wouldn’t everything
be resolved if I got rid of his favour?

    ‘Grandpa. Grandpa.’

‘How about I just call him
    an idiot prince?’

    Bisi was savouring the
delicious food she was trying for the first time, her eyes glinting
with excitement. She then glanced at the little girl watching her,
    who quickly averted her eyes.

    “What?”

    “Uh, um, aren’t you going
    to eat?”

“I like to savour my food
    slowly.”

    “Uh… okay.”

    Several days had passed since
Lucy had entrusted Velma to Bisi.

    Initially, Bisi thought of
Velma as nothing but a nuisance. However, over time, her opinion
    changed.

    Velma reminded Bisi of the
younger sibling she had lost long ago.

    There was something about
Velma’s naïve demeanour, her pure expressions of joy, and her clumsy
attempts to take care of others.

    Because of this, Bisi found
herself genuinely looking after Velma at some point.

    Bisi rationalised this by
telling herself that it was the least she could do, considering she
had received so much from Lucy.

In fact, it was hard to call
it an excuse. The book Lucy had given her was undeniably something
    extraordinary.

    Bisi still remembered.

The book was written in an
ancient language, so difficult that she couldn’t even begin to
interpret. And the reaction Adri had when Bisi handed over the book
    as Lucy had instructed.

    “Where did you get this?”

    Adri’s eyes fluttered the
moment she received the book, as if she were beholding a treasure she
    never thought she would find.

    “Lady Allen gave it to
    me.”

    “Lady Allen…
    hahahahahahahahahaha!”

    As she blinked and repeated
that name, Adri burst into a wild laugh.

It wasn’t a laugh of joy from
the living, but rather, a deranged cackle one might expect from a
    vengeful spirit.

Bisi, who had only seen Adri’s
usual polite and childlike demeanour, was completely overwhelmed by
that laugh, but it didn’t last long.

    Soon, Adri stopped laughing
and returned to her usual self.

    “Please thank Lady Allen
for me later. This item is incredibly precious to both you and me.”

    “…Is it really that
    amazing?”

    “Hehe. Of course, it is.
Oh, and please let her know that I’d be willing to do anything she
    asks in the future.”

It turned out that the book
contained the Necromancer’s Secret Technique, once held by a
    prominent family.

    An Evil Artefact that would
fetch a high price if sold to the Underworld.

    A treasure that any
    Necromancer would desperately seek.

Lucy had given such a valuable
item to Bisi without expecting anything in return.

    At first, Bisi had felt
compelled to obey Lucy’s orders out of fear, but now, that was no
    longer the case.

    Because of the numerous
favours she had received from Lucy, her fear had turned into
    gratitude.

    To the point where she
seriously pondered how she could ever repay such kindness.

    ‘But honestly, when it came
to repaying her… Lucy’s family was rich, she used the best maces,
shields, and armour, she had plenty of money, she was smart, and she
    had a wide network now.

What could I possibly do to
    repay her?’

No matter how much she thought
about it, she couldn’t come up with anything.

Resting her chin on her hand,
she frowned, sighed with the frustration of coming up with no
answers, and relieved her stress with the dessert in front of her.

On her way back to the
Dormitory from the Academy, she saw that the Plaza was filled with
    people.

Did an announcement go up or
    something?

    Bisi tilted her head in
curiosity and noticed a friend on the outskirts of the crowd. She
    approached and spoke to them.

    “Hey, what’s going on?”

    “Who? Oh, Bisi!”

    Upon recognizing Bisi, the
friend quickly lowered their voice and whispered to her.

    “Hey, it’s totally crazy
    right now!”

    “What do you mean?”

    “Lady Allen called the
    Second Prince [Omitted]!”
