Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
178
The day after, after kicking
the punching bag’s third leg and knocking him out.
As always, I was raiding the
dungeon.
I had already reached the 39th
Floor.
Originally, I planned to stop
around the 34th to 35th Floor and rest, but I continued moving
desperately even after achieving my goal.
I had no idea how the Georg
Family would react.
Even if he was a brainless
pedophilic pervert, he was still the eldest son of the Georg Family.
Since I had thoroughly
trampled on him, it was likely the Georg Family would respond in some
way.
Knowing the personalities of
their members, I could roughly guess how the situation might unfold.
First, the current Head of the
Georg Family is capable but weak-willed and timid.
Standing at a crossroads, he
would deliberate until the last moment before making the best choice.
He would likely be unable to
decide easily this time as well.
The complexity of the issue
aside, more importantly, the opponent was the Allen Family. If the
Head of the Georg Family acts as he usually does, he might ponder for
at least a week.
So, does that mean I have time
to relax?
No. There’s one more issue.
The matriarch of the Georg
Family.
She is the complete opposite
of the head. Impulsive, incompetent, and supports whatever her son
does. She is probably the biggest reason the Punching Bag (Mark)
turned out to be such a pathetic human.
Surely, seeing her son’s
condition, she will raise her voice in anger.
The Head of the Georg Family
is weak against his wife’s demands. If she nags him daily, the
decision time could be considerably shortened.
This is as far as I can
predict.
What decision the Head of the
Georg Family will ultimately make is unknown.
Well, honestly, most outcomes
don’t bother me.
But depending on the case, I
might not be able to enter the Menestail Dungeon anymore.
That would be a problem. I
don’t know what will happen if I can’t complete the quest given by
Armadi. And frankly, I don’t want to find out.
So, I was running desperately
to finish before the Head of the Georg Family acted.
Today’s goal is the 46th
floor.
It’s the place where the
hidden section of the Menestail Dungeon and the location where
Alsatine’s master stayed.
Today, I will reach there and
finish everything by tomorrow, then leave Menestail.
It will be a forced march, but
that’s fine.
I am very used to gruelling
hard work.
We emerged from the Menestail
Dungeon as the sun set and the moon took its place.
We informed the weary guard of
our exit and headed straight to our lodgings without stopping by the
Menestail Guild.
The gains from the loot were
negligible, so we decided to rest a bit more instead.
We had to continue the forced
march right away the next morning.
“You’re late.”
The person who greeted us when
we returned to the inn was not Nicki. It wasn’t the usual man at the
counter either.
It was someone I anticipated
meeting someday, but didn’t expect to see like this.
The current Head of the Georg
Family.
Meb Georg.
He was not only the man who
significantly revitalised the streets of Menestail Dungeon with his
talents, but also a genius mage acknowledged even within the Magic
Empire full of skilled magicians.
Had it not been for his
characteristic indecisiveness, he might have achieved renown across
the entire continent.
He was sitting alone on a
shabby chair in front of the counter, and rose to his feet when he
saw my face.
Why is this man here?
The same man who couldn’t take
any action until a situation was right in front of him due to his
chronic indecisiveness?
Was his wife’s nagging that
severe?
Damn it. The fact that he
moved alone without any guards means he judged this matter to be
extremely serious!
“I apologise for visiting so
abruptly, Lady Allen. Given the urgency of the matter, I hope you
understand why proper etiquette was forgone.”
As I bit my lip, I thought;
This is troublesome.
As long as they don’t touch
anything related to the Menestail Dungeon, I don’t care what else
happens.
Certainly, having Benedict as
my backer helps, but my current network is not something to belittle
either.
I am friends with the Lady of
the Partan Family.
The Third Prince of the
Soladin Kingdom.
The current Saint of the
Church of Armadi.
They are influential figures
who can make most troubles disappear.
So, all I need to do is steer
the conversation away from the Menestail Dungeon.
I should discuss this with
grandpa.
“I apologise, Lady Allen. My
foolish son has caused you great trouble.”
The rapid thoughts in my head
came to a halt as soon as the Head of the Georg Family bowed his
head.
What?
Weren’t you here to talk
about the violence inflicted on your son? Why are you bowing all of a
sudden?
Of course, I consider my
actions to be self-defence, but I can’t imagine they see it that way.
“Fortunately, Lady Allen’s
quick judgement has turned this incident into a minor accident
between the two. If it weren’t for your swift decision, Benedict
Allen would have descended upon this place.”
The mention of Benedict’s name
jolted my previously frozen thoughts back into motion.
Benedict.
Haha. Just what kind of
mischief have you gotten up to across the continent?
Why does the Head of the Georg
Family, a man deserving of the title ‘genius mage,’ get flustered
at the mere mention of your name?
In any case, thanks. Because
of you, it looks like this situation will be resolved smoothly.
“In the name of Georg, we
will provide every possible convenience during your stay in our
territory. And of course, I’ll properly educate my foolish son. So
please, could you explain this matter well to Sir Benedict Allen?”
‘Since you put it that way,
I’ll make sure to speak to Benedict on your behalf.’
“It seems there’s no
helping it, given how terrified the cowardly Count is of my idiot
father. Don’t worry; I’ll talk to my idiot father to make sure
the Count doesn’t wet his pants.”
Despite Meg, the Head of the
Georg Family, now being branded as a cowardly count thanks to the
[Mesugaki] Skill, he merely gave an awkward smile, showing no signs
of anger.
Since he already regarded
himself as being in a weaker position, he couldn’t respond
strongly.
“Thank you for
understanding, Lady Allen.”
‘It’s nothing. Don’t
worry about it.’
“I just felt so sorry for
the Count looking so pale. Puh-haha. Really, don’t worry about it.”
Under normal circumstances,
upon seeing Count Georg’s trembling lips, I would have cursed the
[Mesugaki] Skill.
It’s not just some average
young master; this is a Count with power, status, and real
influence—earning his ire isn’t something to be taken lightly.
But it’s alright now. After
all, once this is over, there’s no reason for me to return to this
city.
Naturally, there’d be no
reason to meet Count Georg again either. So, even if he ends up
hating me, it won’t cause any issues!
Sigh.
Things turned out well.
Now, there’s no need to
enter the dungeon again tomorrow.
After running around all day,
my body is exhausted. It would be better to rest for a day or two,
recover completely, and then go back into the dungeon.
“Yes, that sounds like a
good idea.”
With Count Georg offering his
apologies, an unexpected evening of rest greeted them.
Feeling tired in many ways,
Lucy retired early to bed, while Alsatine sat alone in the living
room, sipping on some alcohol.
It had been a tough day.
Alsatine was not someone who
neglected his training.
The person who took him in and
taught him during his childhood always emphasised the importance of
strength, and Alsatine, having been saved by his mentor, never once
disobeyed her teachings.
However, all that training was
to live as an informant.
It wasn’t the type of rigorous
training that knights, who put everything into their physical
prowess, underwent.
‘It was no surprise that
Karl had extraordinary stamina.
From his time at Soul Academy,
he was recognized as a promising talent, and right after graduation,
he joined the strongest knight family, the Allens, and continued to
develop his abilities.
It would be strange if he
didn’t exhibit such capabilities.
But still. What in the world
was Lady Allen?
Just a year ago, she was a
troublemaker. How could she possess such astonishing physical
strength now?
Even if she inherited the
Allen Family’s blood, this… this is just abnormal.’
Having to desperately keep up
with the two of them to meet his mentor, Alsatine was now halfway to
exhaustion.
Perhaps the only fortunate
thing for him was that they were resting instead of entering the
dungeon again tomorrow. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have had this small
reprieve.
“Can’t sleep?”
After coming back from the
dungeon, Karl had entered the training room and worked out for a long
time before washing up and stepping out. Alsatine looked at him with
a sense of weariness.
‘Were all Knights of the
Allen Family like this? Or was this guy just exceptional?
Considering Lady Allen, it’s
likely the former.’
“I’m resting. Since I got
lucky and have a bit of free time.”
“Hmm, alcohol. It’s been a
while since I had a drink. Mind if I join you?”
“Do as you please.”
As soon as Karl pulled out a
chair and sat down, Nicki appeared with glasses and snacks, as if she
were lying in wait.
Working in similar circles,
Alsatine could roughly gauge Nicki’s level of skill.
She was a talented individual,
capable of being welcomed anywhere she went.
‘It was clear that the
Newman Family had a great interest in the Menestail District, which
is why they sent someone capable.
Why someone like that was
here, being called Gloomy by Lady Allen, was beyond my understanding.
Human affairs are truly
unpredictable.’
“Alsatine, are you a good
drinker?”
“I don’t usually get
knocked out first.”
“Well then, how about a
little contest?”
“Me? Against a knight?”
‘What nonsense was this guy
talking about?
Why would a monster want to
compete with a human in a drinking contest?’
Seeing Alsatine’s reluctance,
Karl burst out in hearty laughter.
When Lucy was around, you
couldn’t see this very human side of him.
“Fine, forget about the
drinking contest. I have another question. When exactly are you going
to stop calling me Knight?”
“But you are a noble, and I
am…”
“Under Lady Allen, we’re all
just the same kind of servants. You can speak comfortably. It seems
like we’ll be working together for quite some time.”
‘Well… that was true. Even
after this mission, he would have to stay with Lady Allen for a long
time.’
Gauging Karl’s mood, Alsatine
gulped down his drink and then opened his mouth.
“Alright, Karl. But later,
no complaints?”
“Ha. What would our fellow
comrades say if I complained about that?”
The two had spent the past few
months together under Lucy’s command.
It didn’t take long for the
two of them to get close, thanks to the influence of the alcohol,
speaking in a more relaxed manner.
As trivial chatter continued
and empty glasses piled up on the table, Karl suddenly lowered his
voice.
“Hey, Alsatine.”
“What? Why are you being
creepy all of a sudden?”
“I have something I want to
ask you. But it wouldn’t be fair if only I asked questions.”
“So, if I have something
to ask you, I should go ahead and ask?”
“Yes! I’ll answer
anything.”
Alsatine raised his eyebrows
slightly at those words.
‘It’s obvious what this guy
wants to ask.
Why did I bother coming all
this way?
Normally, I would’ve kept it a
secret, but this guy is someone I’ll be working with until the end.
Telling him now wouldn’t
change anything.
I’ve decided to give him an
answer.
Now, what should I ask him?
…I just thought of something
interesting.’
“This is perfect timing.
I’ve been meaning to ask you something too.”
“Go ahead.”
“This might be a bit of a
sensitive question.”
“Good grief. Have you
forgotten that I just said I’d answer anything? A knight doesn’t go
back on his word.”
Karl declared boldly and then
took a big swig of his drink.
Alsatine watched him with a
mischievous grin and then asked quite bluntly.
“Karl. Do you by any
chance enjoy being humiliated by a girl?”
“Pfft!”
As a price for his honesty,
Alsatine had to take the beer that spewed out of Karl’s mouth right
to his face.
