Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    103

Avery smiled as she looked at
the various documents contained in the brown envelope.

    “Yes, Lucy Allen. There’s
no way you’re a clean person.”

    The brown envelope Avery held
contained several pieces of information about Lucy Allen that she had
obtained by commissioning an informant she came across by chance.

    The information in the
    documents was as follows:

    First, that the current Combat
Studies professor, Karl, was originally a knight from the Allen
    Family.

It made sense why the two were
always together—they were originally in a master and servant
    relationship.

This was a matter that could
certainly be protested about, as it was illegal under the Academy’s
    regulations.

    But that wasn’t all.

    The documents contained
indications that Lucy Allen had dealings with people from the
    Underworld.

For a Lady from a noble knight
family to directly engage in dirty and lowly transactions just to get
what she wanted was undoubtedly a disgrace.

    She didn’t even make the
minimum effort of going through a servant.

    No dignity at all.

    Well, how would a barbarian,
who probably never even thought of learning anything about dignity,
    know anything about it?

While the exact nature of her
dealings with people from the Underworld wasn’t specified in the
    documents, it wasn’t a problem.

    Isn’t it obvious?

    It was probably something
related to cheating on the Soul Academy’s entrance exam or some
sort of fraud to win the bet with Prince Arthur.

    Or perhaps something even
worse. Besides that, the documents contained various rumours and
    suspicions about Lucy Allen.

    Good.

    At first, she was sceptical,
but considering how dark and gloomy that person seemed, they turned
    out to be quite capable.

At the end of the document,
presumed to be written by the informant, it stated, [Do not
officially antagonise anyone from the Allen Family], but Avery
    disregarded it with a scoff.

What on earth is this person
    worried about?

    There’s no way that Lucy
Allen, who keeps hitting rock bottom daily, could do anything to harm
    her, right?

    Of course, it would be
different if that bitch threw a punch, but if she doesn’t, that’s
    the end of it.

    ‘Are you really telling me
that crazy girl would come after me to kill me?’

Avery hummed a tune as she put
the document back into the brown envelope and left the room.

    Her next destination was the
    room where Joy was resting.

    Recently, Lady Partan had
    grown close to Lucy Allen.

She said that Lady Allen had
saved her life, claiming, “She may not be as bad as everyone
    thinks.”

Joy shared this, but the other
    ladies didn’t believe her.

    They had all been humiliated
by Lucy Allen in social circles in the past.

    Lucy Allen, with that filthy
temper, has turned over a new leaf? No way!

    It’s more realistic to believe
she learned how to put up a facade.

Since it was Joy Partan, they
didn’t express this outright, but most of the ladies thought so.
    Avery had similar thoughts.

    Lady Partan must just be
unaware of the ugly truth hidden behind Lucy Allen.

    She believed Lady Partan would
surely change her mind once she learned the truth.

    That’s why, after being
humiliated by Lucy Allen last time, she sought out an informant.

    She was convinced that bitch
must have been up to something dirty and asked for an investigation.

    Her suspicion was right.

Lucy Allen was far from being
    a person of integrity.

If she showed this to Lady
Partan, surely even Lady Partan would change her mind.

    Upon discovering that Lucy
Allen was a trash who nonchalantly committed illegal acts, without a
    doubt.

    Knock, knock.
The dormitory door was tapped and opened shortly after.

    Lady Partan appeared as noble
    as ever today.

No matter when she was seen,
her dignified demeanour was truly the epitome of a noble lady.

    Lady Partan slightly furrowed
her brows upon seeing Avery and spoke.

    “How do you do, Lady
    Partan.”

    “Good evening, Lady
Rumley. What brings you here at this late hour?”

    “Well…”

    Avery presented to Lady Partan
    the words she had prepared.

    Concerning the various rumours
    surrounding Lucy Allen.

    And the numerous incidents she
had caused since entering the Academy. Finally, about the information
    she had investigated.

‘Lucy Allen is not as clean
    as you think.

    So, even if you feel
gratitude, it’s not good to get close to her.

    Please return to your original
    self, Lady Partan.’

In summary, this is what Avery
    said.

Joy, who had listened with her
arms crossed, sighed softly after Avery finished speaking, then
opened her eyes and asked in a voice lower than usual.

    “Have you said everything
    you wanted?”

    “Pardon?”

    “From the way you’re
speaking, it seems like you’ve said it all. Then let me respond.
    You should stop, Lady Rumley.”

    ‘What? What did she just
    say?’

    “I am aware that you’ve
been spreading many rumours about Lady Allen. I let it go because I
knew Lady Allen had committed mistakes in the past. And she herself
    did not complain.”

    ‘Lady Partan, what is this
    about?’

    “However, I did not expect
you would go as far as investigating her background to insult her.”

    Avery couldn’t believe the
    current situation.

    The blue eyes, which she
thought would change after hearing the story, still looked at her as
if she were a trivial being.

    “Lady Rumley, if you ever
pull something like this again, even if Lady Allen remains silent, I
    will not let you off.”

    “Why?”

    “What?”

    “Why are you protecting Lady
    Allen so much?”

Lady Partan has not known Lucy
Allen properly for less than a year. In contrast, Avery had known her
    for an incomparably longer time.

So why was she taking Lucy
    Allen’s side?

Even if it were true that Lucy
Allen had saved her life, considering the long-time relationship they
had, shouldn’t she at least listen to her?

    With a sigh, Lady Partan
grasped the doorknob in response to Avery’s question.

    “Lady Rumley, let me ask
you just one thing. If you really are my friend, why don’t you listen
to what I have to say?”

    “What? Well, that’s
    because Lady Allen—”

    “Is it always Lady
    Allen?”

    …Avery couldn’t respond to
    that question.

    Seeing Avery with her lips
tightly sealed, Lady Partan closed the door without any hesitation,
leaving Avery alone in the hallway.

    ‘Why.

    Is it just me.’

    In the game Soul Academy,
    exams weren’t a significant feature.

    Most users viewed the exam
period merely as a time to raise their stats or prepare for upcoming
events, since the grades were determined based on the stats users
accumulated and corresponding rewards were given.

It was also difficult to place
much importance on the exam content.

Soul Academy was, after all, a
game about conquering dungeons and clearing various quests.

    Achieving good grades in the
exams was just a secondary aim. That wasn’t much different for me
    now.

    What mattered more than my
grades at the Academy was what I could gain from it.

    So, even when everyone was
holed up in the library preparing for the midterms, I didn’t even set
    foot in there.

Even Joy had suggested that we
study together, but I still didn’t go.

While the fact that I didn’t
need to prepare for the midterms was one reason, if it were just
that, I would have gone to study with Joy.

    Spending time with my
favourite character is part of youth!

If I could enjoy that, even
the tedious and boring studying would be bearable!

I had to refuse Joy’s offer
with a heavy heart because I had something I absolutely had to do
    beforehand.

    “Is there really a
    dungeon in this place?”

    ‘Yes!’

    “Are you doubting me just
because you’re an incompetent information seller?”

    “But there’s nothing
    here.”

It appeared as if there was
nothing in this place in the forest just outside the Academy’s area.

But that was just how it
    looked on the surface.

    ‘Grandpa, what was the
    prayer of purification again?’

    ‘Are you sulking?! You’re so
nagging and petty. You’re such an old-fashioned person.’

    ‘Really?’

    I wasn’t sure at all.

    Though he grumbled a bit,
Grandpa soon told me the prayer of purification.

As I repeated what he chanted,
divine magic unfolded, revealing the entrance to the hidden dungeon.

    ‘See? It’s right there,
    isn’t it?’

    “Information Seller, can you
see it clearly now with your useless eyes? Hm?”

    “…Yes.”

“Why do you always doubt the
Lady? The Lady is always right.”

“Well, to a Knight like you,
    maybe.”

    Ignoring the bickering between
Karl and Alsatine, I focused on the entrance to the dungeon.

In the main storyline of Soul
Academy, an incident occurs during the midterms.

The Apostle of the Evil God,
who attacked the Academy last time, personally entices one of the
students to cause a terror inside the Academy.

    The dungeon near the Academy
    is used for that incident.

Nacrad, who is all dark and
melodramatic, makes this dungeon go berserk and then links it to the
Academy through the student he enticed.

    The monsters in this dungeon
are incredibly strong for the first-year students of the Academy.

    Although the professors from
the Academy quickly respond and suppress the outburst, some students
    suffer injuries amidst the chaos.

    Furthermore, the monsters
under the Evil God’s command infiltrate the Academy and cause various
    incidents.

    Surprisingly, this event can
be prevented depending on the player’s actions.

You just need to eliminate the
dungeon that Nacrad plans to make go berserk in advance.

If all the dungeons in the
vicinity are cleared, the event gets skipped because the Apostle of
the Evil God can’t connect to any of them within the distance limit.

    Of course, the Apostle isn’t
stupid and tries to hide the dungeon’s location, but that’s futile
    before a veteran like me.

Ah, I really want to see
Nacrad’s face when he finds out all the dungeons he had marked are
    gone.

I want to see him tremble with
frustration as his plan falls apart. When Nacrad attacks later, he’ll
be delighted to learn about this, won’t he?

    Just imagining it makes me
    happy.

Seeing the guy who used to
torment me with his face turning red as he trembles in frustration.

I really want to see that
    soon.

    ‘Hey, you two? Let’s go
    tackle the dungeon quickly?’

“Sloppy duo. I don’t want to
find out which one of you is sloppier, so let’s go.”

“No need to know, Miss. I’m
    definitely the sloppier one.”

“Yes, it seems you are the
    sloppier one.”

    Seeing Karl happy about being
called sloppy naturally made me feel disheartened.

What kind of a bodyguard is
    this?

    I truly appreciate him taking
the insults from the [Mesugaki] Skill, but can’t he at least have
    some normal sense?
