Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    62

    Alsatine, having heard my
request, paused to think for a moment before speaking.

“Are you sure I can get it?”

    ‘Yes.’

    “As an Information Seller,
You should be able to do that much.”

When Soul Academy was still a
game, you always got me that item.

I don’t know how long it will
take, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find it eventually.

    Alsatine listened to me,
shrugged, and clasped his hands under his chin.

“If I manage to get it, how
do you plan to pay for it? It’s related to a Duke’s Family and
there’s not even a single clue about it, so it’ll be quite
    expensive.”

    ‘I’ll pay with
    information.’

    “I’ll give you the
    information you want.”

“To me? I’m not moved by
    just any information.”

    ‘Yours…’

    “I have information about
your master. Do you really not need it?”

As soon as I mentioned his
    master, Alsatine’s expression cracked.

    Alsatine’s master is a crucial
    figure in his story arc.

    The only weakness this man
has, who wouldn’t even blink if his lover died in front of him, is
    his master.

    “What do you mean by
    master?”

    Sure. You, as a merchant,
wouldn’t want to reveal your weakness, so you’d deny it.

    But listen.

I clearly saw you bawling your
eyes out. What difference does it make if you deny it?

    ‘Karia…’

“Karia. The one who took you
in when you were an orphan. Now do you remember?”

As soon as I mentioned his
master’s name, Alsatine got up and stood across from me.

The way he glared at me was
    quite fierce.

But I wasn’t scared at all,
probably because I had been around scary-looking people like Possell
    and Benedict.

“How do you know that name?”

    ‘Does it matter?’

    “Information Seller, does
it matter? I know the information you want, and you can get the item
    I need. Isn’t that enough?”

    You’re probably curious how I,
who has been stuck in a mansion and never stepped outside, gathered
    the information.

But why should I answer that?

    If you’re annoyed, isn’t it
    your job to find out?

Of course, no matter how hard
you try, you won’t find even a clue, but that’s not my concern.
    Right?

    “Lady Allen, I’m sorry,
but your words alone are not enough to confirm that you have
    information about my master.”

    That’s true.

    He’s a very suspicious person,
so he won’t move based on just this.

How much should I reveal to be
    appropriate?

    ‘From the Magic Empire…’

    “Try looking for information
near the Norta Territory in the Magic Empire.”

If you search that area, you
might find information about your master.

Of course, you won’t be able
to approach your master, but at least you can verify if my words are
    credible.

    Alsatine, who had been staring
at me intently, took a step back and once again wore a mask of a
    smile.

    “Alright. I’ll check it
    out.”

    ‘How long will it take…’

    “Information Seller, how
long do you think it will take to get the item I mentioned?”

    “I can’t give a definite
answer since I don’t even have a clue about the item’s location, but
I’ll try to get it as quickly as possible.”

    Since his master’s whereabouts
are on the line, Alsatine will likely do his best to find the item.

At most, it will probably take
    a month.

If I can get the item within
that time, I can definitely raise Jack Burrow’s likability enough.

    Satisfied with his answer, I
nodded and rose from my seat.

‘I hope for a good answer.’

“I’d like to hear a good
answer next time we meet. Information seller.”

    Left alone in the room,
Alsatine took a cigarette from a drawer and lit it.

    Watching Lucy Allen leave his
tavern, he muttered to himself in a voice that could chew someone
    out.

    “Lucy Allen, huh.”

    Alsatine knew about Lucy
    Allen.

    She was notoriously famous for
all the wrong reasons in social circles. It was impossible not to
    know her.

    Lately, there were even
    rumours she had changed.

    Recalling the disdain in her
eyes when she looked down at him and called him an information
seller, Alsatine was certain her personality hadn’t changed.

    But she wasn’t the
    irredeemable person the rumours suggested.

    Lucy Allen had a bad
personality, but she possessed the resolve appropriate for someone of
    the Allen Family lineage.

    The way she confidently faced
those setting the mood in the tavern downstairs and spoke her mind in
    front of him showed that.

    More importantly, the way she
carefully observed his expression while mentioning his master
    indicated she wasn’t incompetent.

The people in high society had
    no discernment.

Did they focus only on her
reckless behaviour and fail to notice what lay beneath?

    “Alsatine, sir.”

    “Come in.”

The person who had taken a
punch to the stomach from Alsatine earlier and had been on his knees
    entered the room.

    “Are you alright?”

    “Please go easier next time.
I think I’m going to get a bruise.”

    “Hey, just apply some
    medicine, and it’ll heal.”

    The intense atmosphere when
Lucy first visited the tavern and Alsatine’s subsequent control of
the mood were all part of a perfectly planned act.

It was all to scare the
visiting noble and make things go more smoothly.

Though it seemed to have had
    no effect on Lucy Allen.

“So, how did the job go?”

    “The job, you say.”

    Alsatine’s mind was in
    turmoil.

    The biggest issue was the
matter of his master that Lucy Allen had mentioned.

    From what Alsatine knew, Lucy
    Allen never left her mansion.

    She had no connections, given
her wild behaviour in social circles, so it was unlikely she’d have
    such information.

    Yet she knew.

She knew he was searching for
    my master.

How on earth did she get that
    information?

    Does the Allen Family have
some hidden route unknown to others?

    But that family is nothing
more than a typical warrior clan.

There’s no way they have a
    better information network than Alsatine’s.

    Lost in silent contemplation,
Alsatine snapped out of it when the ash from his cigarette fell.

‘No matter how puzzled I am,
    reality won’t change.

I can worry about this later.

For now, I need to focus on
    what has to be done.’

“First, I need to find an
item related to the Duke Burrow Family.”

‘For the Lady of the Allen
Family to come all the way to the back alleys looking for this item,
    it must be valuable.

Even if the deal with Lucy
Allen falls through, it wouldn’t hurt to have that item in my
    possession.

    So finding it takes priority.’

“And I need to send some
    people to the Norta Territory.”

    ‘I have to verify whether
what Lucy Allen confidently said is true.

I should send people there to
    gather information about my master.’

    Thinking about his master,
Alsatine took a drag on his cigarette, furrowing his brows.

In truth, the best way to
confirm this would be to kidnap Lucy Allen and extract the
    information from her.

    Those with an overbearing
attitude tend to quickly crumble under the pain that pierces the
    skin.

    However, her status prevents
    him from using such methods.

    The Allen Family.

    A prestigious warrior clan,
contested to be the best in the kingdom, with the Iron-Blooded
Knight, Benedict Allen, as its head.

If he were to mess with
Benedict’s daughter and earn his resentment?

At that moment, it might just
    be better to kill himself.

In other words, if he didn’t
have to worry about the aftermath, it wouldn’t matter if he messed
with Lucy Allen… but not now.

    “For the time being,
these two tasks take priority. Let’s get to work.”

For a week after the entrance
ceremony at Soul Academy, a kind of trial period continues.

    Students attend various
classes as they like and then decide which ones to continue.

    Usually, during this period,
most people hang out with those they feel drawn to and build
camaraderie, but unfortunately, this did not apply to me.

    ‘I’m not thinking about
    anything.’

    ‘Being an outsider involves
    this kind of cliché.’

    You wouldn’t understand,
    Grandpa.

    It’s something from the
    place I originally came from.

    Since the start, I’ve been
    alone almost the entire time.

    Whenever people saw me, they
would shriek and distance themselves, leaving me no choice but to be
    alone.

    Joy frowned whenever she saw
me, probably because of what happened last time we met.

    Phoebe would greet me when
    passing by, but that’s it.

    And Frey? She’s unpredictable
and just does her own thing, wandering around and busy with her own
    matters.

    Because of that, I naturally
ended up being a loner from the first day.

The time I was most conscious
of my surroundings was during meals.

I’ve had many meals alone, but
eating alone in society is completely different from doing so at
    school.

    In public restaurants, no one
cares if you’re eating alone. As long as you don’t feel
self-conscious about it, no one pays you any mind.

    But it’s different at school.

    If you’re eating alone, people
shoot you glances, thinking, “Why is that person eating alone?
    Are they a loner?”

    Of course, my infamous
reputation meant no one blatantly stared or talked behind my back
where I could see, but I had a bad feeling that soon it would come to
    that.

    Bad rumours spread quickly in
    group settings like schools.

If Lucy, who already has a bad
reputation, becomes a loner at school? That’s a perfect setup for
becoming a target of bullying, isn’t it?

    Ugh. I expected this
situation, but facing it in reality feels different.

Knowing I’ll have to live like
this for the next few years already makes my future seem bleak.

    “That’s all for today’s
class explanation. In the next class…”

    After class ended, I quickly
left the classroom and headed to the next location.

    Normally, one might struggle
to find their way around the school or decide which class to take,
but I didn’t have to worry about that.

    I’d already gone through those
stages when I first started at Soul Academy.

A veteran like me wouldn’t get
lost in a place like this!

The next subject I planned to
    take was Combat Studies.

    As someone who needs to
improve my close combat skills, this class was a must.

    When I arrived in the
classroom, there was Karl, preparing for the lesson.

    “Miss.”

    ‘Karl…’

    “Sloppy Knight. Why are
    you here?”

    Wasn’t this class supposed to
    be taught by someone else?

    “I’ve been assigned as
    Professor Anton’s assistant.”

    Ah. That makes sense.

    You wouldn’t leave an
inexperienced professor to handle a class alone, so this must be a
    necessary arrangement.

    “This timing is perfect.
I actually had something to tell you, Miss.”

    “What is it?”

    “Miss, didn’t you ask a
female student recently if she needed any help?”

    I did.

There was a quest to complete.

But how do you know that?

    “I’ve brought her
    request.”

    …What? No way.

    Wait a minute.

    What?!
