Mesugaki Tank Enters the Academy –
    52

The fact that I got accepted
    wasn’t very surprising.

How many things had I shown in
    the entrance exams!

    I displayed overwhelming
performance in duelling, and despite an incident during the process,
I achieved amazing results in the dungeon.

So, even if my written exams
were poor, I was confident I would get in through special admission.

    But the freshman welcome
    speech?

Why are they giving me this
    responsibility?!

    The freshman welcome speech is
supposed to be given by the student with the best grades, right?

    Are my grades that good?

    No way!

    My practical exam scores might
be high, but there’s no way my written exam scores were equally good!

    Apart from Dungeon Studies, I
    practically gave up!

    There’s no way I outperformed
the Third Prince, who’s literally called a genius!

    That’s nonsense!

    Let’s say, I concede a
    little.

    Maybe Grandpa’s answers were
all correct after studying for barely two months.

But I didn’t even have such
    help in Magic Studies.

Dice God my foot, I just
randomly guessed by throwing my pencil.

    I completely flunked a whole
    subject!

So how on earth am I supposed
to give the freshman welcome speech? Huh?!

    Something must be wrong.

    There’s probably some
procedural error that led to my mistaken selection. It must be like
    that.

As I denied the reality before
my eyes, I continued reading the admission notice.

    Hoping to find something that
    was incorrect.

    But reality was harsh.

    Soul Academy seemed determined
to prove they made no mistakes by presenting me with various facts.

    “Here are Lady Lucy
Allen’s scores in detail from the exams:”

    -Korean: 87 points

    -History: 98 points

    -Dungeon Studies: 100 points

    -Magic Studies: 68 points

    -Duelling: 91 points

    -Dungeon Attack: 100 points

-With a total of 544 points,
Lady Lucy Allen not only achieved the highest score on this year’s
Soul Academy entrance exam but also achieved the highest score in the
history of Soul Academy. Therefore, we have selected Lady Allen as
the freshman’s welcome speech representative. Upon receiving this
    letter…

    After reading the letter to
the end, I folded it and placed it back in the envelope before
throwing it onto the floor. However, the letter didn’t fall to the
    ground.

    The useless Sloppy Knight
    caught it with surprising speed.

    “Miss, why did you throw
this? You should show this to the master.”

    “Sloppy, shut up.”

    “Yes, ma’am.”

Even as my head was already
spinning and about to explode, why is he making such a fuss?

    Is he awakening some perverse
desire to be trampled by his master? Huh?

When I frowned and glared at
him, Karl quickly bowed his head.

    ‘What’s going on? Are you
    seriously asking that?’

    He’s practically the main
culprit behind this whole situation, and he dares to ask what’s
    going on?!

Grandpa, if you hadn’t been so
unnecessarily smart, none of this would have happened!

Why did you do all that extra
studying and get such high scores?!

Did you really want to show
    off how intelligent you are?!

    ‘Honor? Grandpa, did you
    forget about my Blessing?!’

    Grandpa, do you think I’m
making such a fuss just because I don’t want to stand in front of
    people?!

    Sure, I’m naturally an
introvert and not fond of being in the spotlight.

But if I must do it, I can!
It’s an opportunity to recover my tarnished reputation! Why would I
refuse something that could only benefit me?

    If it weren’t for the
[Mesugaki] skill, I would have considered it an honourable position
and accepted it like Grandpa said!

    But I have the [Mesugaki]
    skill!

    ‘Grandfather, think about it.
Imagine me, in front of all those nobles, spewing words like sloppy
    and trash!’

    It wasn’t hard to imagine
myself reading a speech while being stared at by countless
    influential people.

    ‘Hello. You sloppy idiots
dumber than me. I’m Lucy Allen. How pathetic must you be for me to
stand here? Well, you’re all trash who applied to this sloppy
academy, so I guess it’s inevitable.’

    How horrifying.

    Of course, the [Mesugaki]
skill uses polite language when necessary, so it would maybe be a bit
    less harsh than that.

But it doesn’t change the fact
that words like “sloppy,” “trash,” “moron,”
and “idiot” would pop out non-stop during my speech.

    What would happen to my
    reputation then?

    The professors at Soul Academy
would think I’m insane. Royals and nobles alike would be sure that
the rumours about me were true, and even commoners would avoid me.

It would be an even more
horrendous situation than I had ever imagined for my academy life!

    No.

I must prevent this future at
    all costs.

I have to stop such a dreadful
thing from happening, no matter what it takes. I swept my hand over
my face and then looked up to see Karl watching me with a worried
    expression.

    ‘Karl…’

    “Hey, Sloppy. You
    graduated from Soul Academy, right?”

    “Yes, that’s correct.”

‘Can you refuse to give the
    freshman address?’

    “Can you refuse this
    useless speech?”

    “Uh… I’m not sure.”

    “What?”

    “There is no precedent
for that. The freshman address at Soul Academy is a prestigious
position proving one’s excellence among numerous candidates. In the
Academy’s history, no one has ever declined it.”

    ‘That’s…’

    “So, it’s not set in
    stone by any rule?”

    “That’s correct.”

    ‘Really? Then…’

    “Really? Then I guess
I’ll be the first to refuse in the Academy’s history.”

People might find me odd, but
it’s definitely better than being labelled a lunatic by influential
    people.

Making up my mind, I snatched
the letter from Karl’s hand and headed to the mansion.

I need to write a letter
stating that I cannot possibly be the freshman representative.

    I don’t know how they’ll
respond, but I’m determined to refuse.

    They’d better accept my
decision if they don’t want to see how far the person possessing this
    body’s madness can go.

    “So, you’re suggesting
that 2nd place should take over?”

    Arthur Soladin, the Third
Prince, voiced his displeasure frankly upon hearing through
communication magic that he had to stand in as the representative for
    this year’s entrance ceremony.

It was not just rude but
    laughable.

    It was already infuriating
enough that he lost his top place to someone else; now that person
was acting as if they were doing him a favour by passing on the
    freshman representative role.

    As if they weren’t interested
    in such an honour.

He had dedicated his life to
grasping the glory of being the freshman representative, and now he
was being treated like a fool.

    Although Arthur rationally
knew better, his emotions spoke otherwise. His heart continued to
    simmer.

    Arthur, nervously drumming his
fingers on the desk, only realised he had been biting his lip hard
enough to taste blood when he noticed the metallic flavour in his
    mouth.

    ‘Damn it.’

The truth was he had always
aspired to be the freshman representative.

    However, the scene he had
envisioned was one where he claimed the top spot by achieving the
highest scores in the history of Soul Academy, not by having it
handed to him in this ridiculous manner.

    Ha. Whoever gave up the
freshman representative position, it’s utterly infuriating.

Trying to make him look like a
fool cleaning up after the first person in Soul Academy’s history to
    refuse the freshman representative role.

    “Sorry, but I refuse.”

    As Arthur firmly expressed his
refusal, the person on the other end of the communication magic
seemed to accept his decision without further persuasion.

    “Wait.”

    Just before the communication
magic was cut off, Arthur called out to the person.

    “I’d like to ask one
    thing.”

“Can you tell me the name
of the person who was originally supposed to be the freshman
representative? It’s information that would soon be revealed anyway,
    right?”

There was no reason to hide
this information since the top 20 scores of Soul Academy’s entrants
are announced during the entrance ceremony.

The person on the other end
seemed to hesitate for a moment before answering Arthur’s question.

    “Lucy? You mean the Lady
    Lucy Allen that I know?”

    Lucy Allen. Arthur had never
attended social events, so he had never seen Lucy Allen in person.

    However, he had heard plenty
    of rumours about her.

    Rumours tend to spread more
easily and quickly if they’re bad rather than good.

    The girl, more often referred
to as the disgrace of the Allen Family or the wild young lady, became
worthy of being the Academy’s freshman representative?

    What on earth?

“Could it be a form of
compensation for the incident that happened during the Academy
    entrance exam?”

    Arthur realised he had just
    made a very rude comment.

    He essentially accused them of
offering the representative position as a bribe to cover up a mistake
    they made.

“I apologise. I seem to have
let my emotions get the better of me.”

    “Very well. Thank you. Let’s
    end this here.”

    ‘Do you know? The peaceful
day I wished for just flew out the window with that communication.’

    After the communication magic
was cut off, Arthur leaned back and stared at the white ceiling.

    “Lucy Allen.”

    Indeed, you can’t trust
rumours. Calling someone with the highest scores in the strict exams
of the Soul Academy a disgrace to her family doesn’t seem right.

    If anything, it should be
    considered an honour.

    “Lucy.”

    Whatever. What does it matter
if she’s an honour or a disgrace?

    Who she is.

    What kind of personality she
    has.

    Whatever she’s done.

It had nothing to do with
    Arthur Soladin.

    There were only two things
    that concerned him.

Lucy Allen was someone who had
taken away the glory that should have been his.

And a person who insulted him
under the guise of a clumsy act of kindness.

That’s all there was to it.

    “I look forward to the
    day I see her face.”

    ‘Whoever she is, I will
    repay this insult.

    For sure.’

    After turning down the
position of freshman representative, I felt at ease.

    Of course, there was some
noise in the process, but when I brought up the incident that
occurred during the entrance exam, they let it go.

    Thank goodness.

    In the worst-case scenario, I
was even considering no-showing on the day of the entrance ceremony,
    but things turned out smoothly.

    Since then, I’ve devoted
myself to training as usual, just waiting for the day of the Soul
    Academy entrance ceremony.

Getting up in the morning to
run, training in the afternoon, and practising divine magic in the
    evening—those were my days.

My life was so peaceful that I
wondered if it would be okay to just keep living like this, but that
    ended today.

It was now time to leave the
estate and head to the Academy.
