The Jewel Yunis Found
by Afuhfuihgs
The next day, Yunis, who had left for the city of Dirot, returned. But she wasn’t alone; a girl who looked to be her age and a little kid who looked like her younger sibling were with her. Yunis had the two of them wait in Modest’s guest waiting room, then came out of the room to explain to me.
“This is the hidden jewel I found at Arcadia Academy.”
“Jewel?”
They didn’t seem to have anything special about them.
“There was a golem among those announced last summer that caught my eye. So, I looked into it, and it turned out to be quite excellent. I thought it would be good for you to meet them yourself, so I brought them along.”
A golem, huh… The Imperial Palace Guardian Golem was already a completed version after improvements. I had judged that it had reached the limit of the golem itself and could no longer be developed. Since Yunis went through so much trouble, having a conversation with them isn’t a difficult task.
“Alright. If Yunis says so, I can’t help but look forward to it.”
Yunis, as if worried about my reaction, smiled brightly and nodded.
“You definitely won’t be disappointed.”
*
Yunis brought the two to Modest’s basement. They looked alike; as expected, they were sisters. Their names were Jina and Wiz. But while being introduced to me by Yunis, I could feel that the younger sister named Wiz was moving around quite restlessly.
It could happen with young children, but it felt a little different from how ordinary children get restless because they can’t stand boredom. She would occasionally make animal-like sounds, like “Uu-!” and even bite the hand of Jina, who was holding her. When my gaze turned to Wiz, her older sister Jina explained to me.
“My younger sister, Wiz… she’s a little autistic.”
Judging by her actions, it didn’t seem like just a little, but I didn’t feel the need to point it out. I crossed my arms silently to let her continue the explanation on her own. Whether she was nervous or just didn’t have the mental space because her younger sister kept trying to climb onto the table, Jina didn’t say anything.
“Ross, how about taking out the golem?”
At Yunis’s words, who had been watching the situation, I tilted my head.
“Suddenly?”
“Yeah, I think it’ll make the conversation flow more easily.”
Seeing Yunis smiling confidently, I shrugged and took out the Imperial Guardian Golem from my spatial storage. Then, I injected magic power to activate the golem.
“Wow-!”
Wiz’s attention was completely focused on the golem. Instead of climbing onto the table, her goal changed to approaching the golem. Jina struggled to hold Wiz, who broke free from her chair and ran towards the golem, but Wiz even screamed as she tried to get to the golem no matter what.
“I’m controlling it, so you don’t have to worry and can let her go.”
At my words, Jina relaxed and let go of Wiz, who she had been holding. Wiz, who had been flailing her feet in the air and resenting her sister, approached the golem without any fear as soon as her feet touched the ground. A girl who likes golems; well, to a child who doesn’t understand what a golem is, it would look like a big toy.
Wiz, who was gradually losing human speech and making animal-like sounds, was getting noisy, so I moved the golem a little further away and sat back down. Jina, who had been watching Wiz touching the golem with a worried expression, sighed and sat back down.
“I’m sorry. My younger sister just really likes golems.”
“It’s alright. More importantly, do you have something to show me?”
At my question, Jina exchanged glances with Yunis and took out a notebook from her bosom.
“This is a notebook containing the blueprints for the golem I presented at Arcadia Academy.”
I received the notebook and checked the contents. Having realized the essence of magic through quantum jump, I could imagine how the golem could actually work just by looking at the blueprints, as if I were seeing it with my own eyes.
I could say that Jina’s idea itself was excellent. Her plan was to create golems as ‘robots’ that would help people in their daily lives, excluding everything related to combat.
In particular, unlike current golems, specially designed high-end joints could reproduce movements that were structurally impossible for golems. It was a direction I had never thought of, so I could feel a sense of novelty.
“…Not bad.”
But what I need right now isn’t something that helps with life. This is a crucial moment where something that helps with fighting is important. Feeling disappointed, I flipped through the pages, but I stopped at one page.
“This is…”
Unlike the blueprints I had seen, it was a crude drawing by a child. The crooked lines and unorganized thoughts were clearly revealed in the drawing. However, the pure principles of magic contained within it were shining brightly, as if emitting light.
“This is Wiz’s work. Wiz, who was looking at the golem’s core brought from the academy, drew it on the spot. At first, I thought it was just a simple doodle, but I was really surprised after hearing Wiz’s explanation. It’s a device to modify the core using the power generated when magic power is released.”
There was a strong sense of pride for her younger sister in Jina’s voice. It seems that the person Yunis thought was a jewel wasn’t Jina, but Wiz.
Kung-!
Turning my head at the sudden noise, I saw one of the Imperial Palace Guardian Golem’s arms rolling on the floor.
“…?”
“Heok!”
Jina was startled, thinking that her younger sister had caused another problem, but I was surprised in a different way. Did she disassemble the golem with her bare hands without any tools…? Armor had been added to make it suitable for combat, so there shouldn’t have been even a gap for her fingernails to enter. It was an amazing ability.
“I, I’m sorry!”
Stopping Jina, who got up to fix the problem, I approached Wiz, who was disassembling the golem. What a fascinating kid. She had the talent to clearly show how happy she was just with her back.
I spoke to Wiz, who had buried her face in the spot where the arm had fallen and was drooling while looking at the inside of the golem.
“Is it fun?”
Wiz turned her head to me, nodded, and then became engrossed in looking at the inside of the golem again. As I was scratching my head, Wiz, who had put her hand inside and was touching something, turned her head to me.
“Want to see!”
It seems her arm wasn’t long enough to reach her target. Is she interested in the golem’s core that I improved? I put down Wiz, who was clinging to the golem, and disassembled the armor as she wanted, taking out the golem’s core.
“How is it?”
“Wow-!”
I smiled along with the child’s pure reaction. When I handed her the golem’s core, Wiz moved her short legs diligently and showed the golem’s core to Jina as if showing off.
Jina smiled and stroked her head as if praising her, and Wiz, satisfied with that, put the golem’s core on the table, opened her sister’s notebook, and started drawing doodles with a pen.
Quietly approaching the table and looking at the doodles, I couldn’t help but be amazed. It’s quite a common setting in movies and dramas that a child with autism has a genius-like ability in a specific field. But it wasn’t a setting that appeared in my novel, and it wasn’t something I tried to force in and then discarded. This wasn’t a setting, but a natural, pure talent.
Having reached the truth of magic, I realized her true talent by looking at Wiz’s doodles. Wiz didn’t simply like golems. It was just that there were golems nearby due to her sister’s influence in developing them, but her real talent was in another area.
I waited for Wiz to finish her doodles and then took out a suitable artifact from my spatial storage. It was a small artifact that could measure the target’s stats from a distance, and as expected, when I shook it slightly to make it visible to Wiz, she showed great interest.
Wiz, who took what was in my hand almost as if she was snatching it away, naturally disassembled the artifact and started looking at the inside. I said to Jina, who was wiping the drool flowing down her chin.
“Wiz is a genius at artifact modification.”
“Yes? Not golems…?”
“It’s just because there are only golems nearby. Looking at how she finds improvements for artifacts like golem cores, Wiz’s ability is focused on modification.”
Jina listened to my words seriously and then clapped her hands as if she had remembered something.
“Actually, I wouldn’t have been able to make the joints that go into the golem without Wiz’s help. I wonder if Wiz really had a talent in that area…?”
It was fortunate for me that Wiz’s ability was focused on artifact modification. Because there will definitely be more places to use it than golems.
Having already reached the realm of transcendence, I was in a state where I could no longer grow through training. It could be seen as stagnation. It was a natural phenomenon that inevitably comes to transcendents, but I knew several ways to quickly overcome it.
The fastest way to overcome stagnation and become stronger in the shortest amount of time was probably body modification using artifacts. There was the disadvantage of losing lifespan and flesh, but for me, who needed immediate power to the point of joining hands with the Demon King, there was no better option.
In fact, it was also a choice made possible thanks to Wiz’s appearance. If my knowledge, which had reached the truth of magic, and Wiz’s ability were combined, we could definitely achieve tremendous results.
“Yunis, you did a good job.”
Yunis smiled brightly, happy that she had been helpful, at my compliment.
