    670 – Parrot

    670 – Parrot

    “Sir!”

Levinas shouted, pointing at the two male and female adventurers who were arguing.

The moderately loud voice drew the attention of people in the Dawn Guild’s first-floor lobby.

For Levinas, whose most frightening word he knew was “Babu,” to say “Sir” was shocking.

    “S, Sir?”

“Yes! If you fight with your comrades, it’s Sir!”

Levinas said to the two arguing adventurers with a fierce expression.

He was imitating an adult scolding children.

    “Sir? Isn’t that too cruel?”

    “Huh…? Is Sir cruel…?”

Levinas, who didn’t know the exact meaning of Sir, was flustered.

Seeing this, the two adventurers realized something was wrong.

“Levinas, do you know exactly what Sir means?”

At the adventurer’s question, Levinas stopped in his tracks.

After a moment of contemplation, Levinas’s ears perked up.

    “Sir is… a punishment of not giving carrots…! Heoooook…!”

Levinas, having thought of a scary punishment, opened his mouth wide and tore at his hair.

Seeing this, the two adventurers forgot their argument and burst into laughter.

“Not getting carrots is scary, though.”

    “Yeah.”

    “That’s right!”

Levinas nodded in agreement with the two adventurers.

Then, the male adventurer, realizing something was wrong, raised and lowered his eyebrows.

Not being able to eat carrots would be a very scary punishment for Levinas.

The fact that he had given them such a scary punishment was bewildering.

“Levinas, do we have to receive such a scary punishment just for arguing a little?”

“Isn’t fighting with comrades very bad…?”

    “Uh… that’s…”

In the child’s world, fighting with comrades is very bad.

The two adventurers, who had been arguing, suddenly felt awkward.

“If you need money, will Levinas give it to you?! Levinas brought a lot of money!”

Levinas took out a few bundles of bills and coins from his pocket.

Seeing this, the male adventurer began to feel pathetic for being greedy.

“Levinas, won’t you be sad if you give away money?”

“Yes! Levinas likes money too, but Levinas likes it more when people are happy!”

    “……”

At Levinas’s pure answer, the male adventurer couldn’t say anything for a while.

He simply nodded and pushed the money Levinas offered back to him.

“It’s okay, I don’t need the money anymore.”

    “Huk! Really?!”

    “Yeah. My greed has disappeared.”

A truly pure child can also find an adult’s childlike innocence.

The man decided to apologize to his comrade.

    **

While watching television, Levinas returned to us with a beaming smile.

It was as if he had experienced something outside.

    “Levinas, did something happen?”

“Yes! Levinas went and came back from being a judge!”

“A judge? What kind of judgment did you make?”

“Yes! There was someone fighting with a friend, so Levinas gave them Sir!”

    “…Huh?”

“But they became friends again, so I canceled the Sir!”

    From Sir to innocent?

    That’s a very spectacular judgment.

I didn’t know exactly what had happened, but if Levinas had fun, that’s all that mattered.

“Wanga! Levinas might become someone who makes judgments when he grows up!”

“Wow, that would be really cool.”

“Um… but Levinas also wants to be someone who grows carrots, what should I do?”

“Hehe, then let’s take our time and think about what you really want to do.”

    “…Yes!”

We had plenty of time, and Levinas’s potential was limitless.

Therefore, there was no need to rush to decide on a future career.

“Wanga, can’t we watch the judgment thing again?”

    “Yes. Let’s watch.”

We watched more of the judgment program and then went back to the park.

While wondering what to do, Saebyeok pointed to one side of the park and said.

“Guys, there’s a talking bird over there.”

    “A talking bird?”

    “Yes. It speaks human language.”

A bird that speaks human language.

Is it the bird I’m thinking of?

Following Saebyeok’s guidance, we found a parrot sitting on a bench.

    ‘It’s a parrot.’

The children gathered around the parrot.

Perhaps because it was a parrot used to human touch, it didn’t run away even when we approached.

“Levinas knows this! This bird is a parrot!”

    “Parrut?”

“Yes! It’s a bird that really speaks human language!”

    “Gaeul?!”

    Gaeul’s eyes widened.

It’s amazing that it imitates human speech.

Haneul also seemed interested, her eyes shining as she looked at the parrot.

    “Parrot-nim…! Hello…!”

    Bow.

    Haneul lightly greeted the parrot.

What kind of answer will the parrot give?

In a tense situation, the parrot opened its mouth towards Haneul.

    “Hello! Hello!”

    “Hogok!”

Is it because it’s the first time she’s seen a talking animal?

Gaeul, her eyes wide, stomped her feet and bowed deeply.

    “Nice to meet chu!”

    “……”

The parrot didn’t respond to Gaeul’s greeting.

Perhaps it couldn’t understand because Gaeul’s words were slurred.

    “Huh…?”

Gaeul, blinking her eyes, pointed at the parrot and stared at me.

It was as if she was asking why it didn’t respond only to her greeting.

    “Uh… Parrot, hello?”

Just in case, I greeted the parrot again.

Then, the parrot flapped its wings and answered me.

    “Hello! Hello!”

    “Wow!”

Gaeul giggled at the parrot’s answer.

And then bowed deeply again politely.

    “Hello dere!”

    “……”

The parrot didn’t respond to Gaeul’s second greeting either.

Perhaps because of her slurred pronunciation, it only tilted its head.

Is it because the parrot ignored only her words?

    Gaeul’s eyebrows rose fiercely.

    “Muwak!”

    Thump thump thump-

Gaeul, stomping the ground as a sign of dissatisfaction, perked up her ears.

    “I know!”

    “You know?”

    “Yesh! It’s Bom being!”

Gaeul shouted, pointing at the parrot.

It seemed that Gaeul thought Bom was pretending to be a parrot and playing a prank.

    “Gaeul knows.”

    Ahem.

    Gaeul puffed out her chest.

She looked triumphant, thinking she had seen through Bom’s prank.

But unfortunately, the parrot wasn’t Bom.

    “Gaeul, Bom is here?”

I said, pointing to Bom next to me.

Gaeul’s eyes widened as she turned her head to check on Bom.

“Gaeul was tricked by the parrot!”

    “Hehe…”

Bom held her stomach and chuckled, and Gaeul made a blank expression.

If the parrot wasn’t Bom, she seemed to be wondering why it didn’t imitate only her words.

It feels like only Gaeul is being left out.

I decided to help a little here.

“Gaeul, it seems like the parrot only responds if you pronounce it accurately.”

    “Really?”

“Yes. Shall we try saying each word clearly?”

    “Yesh…!”

    Gaeul clenched her fists.

It felt like she was taking on a huge challenge.

From Gaeul’s point of view, speaking clearly is a huge challenge…

“Okay, you have to follow each word. An!”

    “Ang!”

    “Again, An!”

    “Ang!”

    “Hmm…”

Is she unable to pronounce An?

An and Ang are similar, though.

Let’s move on to Ang for now.

    “Next is Nyeong!”

    “Nyeo!”

    “Again, Nyeong!”

    “Nyeo!”

“Hmm… Can you try saying both together?”

    “Angnyeo!”

    Angnyeo.

It was still clumsy, but it was almost close to the answer.

I think she’ll be able to do it with a little more practice…

I was wondering how to correct Gaeul’s pronunciation.

The parrot, tilting its head and listening to our conversation, flapped its wings and shouted.

    “Angnyeo! Angnyeo!”

    “Wow! Hello dere!”

    “Hello… Hello dere…!”

Surprisingly, the parrot imitated Gaeul’s slurred pronunciation.

It was tilting its head, trying to memorize Gaeul’s words.

    “Wow! Gaeul parrot puppy!”

    “Ahem.”

Was she proud that it imitated her words?

Gaeul puffed out her chest with a confident look.

Then, the parrot, watching this, also puffed out its chest.

    “Ahem ahem.”

“The parrot is imitating the actions too…!”

“Amazing! It must be a genius parrot!”

For a while, we played with the genius parrot, teaching it words and actions.

Then, we noticed a man running over in a hurry.

    “Angdu!”

    “Hello dere! Hello dere!”

The parrot greeted the man with the greeting it learned from Gaeul.

It seemed to be the parrot’s owner.

“Angdu, why did you fly all the way here?”

    “Ahem!”

    “…Huh?”

The owner tilted his head, looking at Angdu puffing out its chest.

Confused, he slowly looked back at us and asked.

“You were taking care of Angdu?”

“Rather than taking care of it, we were just playing together. Angdu is very smart.”

    “Hehe, our Angdu is smart.”

We got permission from the owner and played with Angdu.

The playing time wasn’t very long.

    “Angdu, goodbye!”

    “Angdu bye bye!”

    “Bye bye! Bye bye!”

Angdu waved its wings at us as a farewell.

I was wondering if there would ever be another genius parrot like that in the world, when Gaeul ran towards the Ggaemmi Guild building.

    “Jjaekjjae! Jjaekjjae!”

Gaeul stomped her feet in front of the building and called for Jjaekjjae.

At Gaeul’s shout, the new Divine Beast Jjaekjjae appeared, flapping its wings.

    “Ppi?”

    “Hello dere!”

    Gaeul bowed deeply to Jjaekjjae.

Did she think it could speak like a parrot?

Jjaekjjae is smarter than a parrot, but unfortunately, it couldn’t speak human language.

    “Jjaek!”

Jjaekjjae made a bird sound and spread its huge wings from side to side.

Jjaekjjae’s wings were bigger than me and the children standing in a row.

    “Wow!”

Gaeul jumped up and down, looking at Jjaekjjae’s huge wings.

Jjaekjjae didn’t have the ability to speak human language, but Gaeul wasn’t disappointed.

She was Gaeul, who liked things as they were, even without anything special.
