    588 – Guild Management

    588 – Guild Management

Gaeul stared silently at the mixed food for a while.

With her round eyes, both I and the people sitting at the table were watching for Gaeul’s reaction.

    How would Gaeul respond?

    Would she be disgusted, or…

    “…Yum?”

Gaeul pointed at the food and pretended to eat.

She had paused for a moment, contemplating whether it was really food she could eat.

“Oh, no. This isn’t for eating.”

    “This is trash.”

The people sitting at the table waved their hands, indicating it wasn’t for Gaeul.

Then Gaeul followed suit, shaking her hands and head.

    “Yuck… yuck, not food.”

“Uh, yeah. This isn’t it. I misspoke.”

    “What does Gaeul usually eat?”

At the question from a woman at the table, Gaeul puffed out her chest.

Then, proudly, she pointed to the meat that the others were eating.

    “Meat!”

    “Wow, Gaeul eats meat?”

“Yup! Gaeul eats food. Good food.”

    “Uh, yeah…?”

Gaeul spoke proudly, but the woman couldn’t understand her words.

So I decided to interpret for her.

“Gaeul isn’t an ordinary dog. She’s the best dog, so she eats meat.”

“Ah, right. The best of the best.”

    “Agreed.”

Although I and the people at the table were strangers, we harmonized to lift Gaeul’s spirits.

It was to prevent Gaeul from eating the food scraps on the table.

Fortunately, Gaeul looked as happy as ever.

“Gaeul, shall we go eat some meat now?”

    “Yup!”

After saying goodbye to the people we had talked to, we moved to the table.

As we walked, I pointed at the mixed food and said.

“Gaeul, you only eat that when you’re really hungry, right?”

    “Really?”

“Yeah. Just a little when you feel like you might die if you don’t eat something.”

    “Huh…”

Maybe it was because we were talking about eating food scraps in a restaurant?

People were looking at us with bewildered expressions.

It was no wonder they were upset since we were talking about dirty things while eating.

    “Why would you eat that…?”

    “I’m, I’m sorry…”

I took Gaeul’s hand and ran to the table.

Once I was among my family, I felt comfort and relief.

“Wanga, did you see the dog food?”

    “Yeah. But it wasn’t food.”

    “I see.”

We waited for the meat while chatting about various things.

Some of the topics included work life.

“Is there anything uncomfortable about your job?”

    “No, nothing uncomfortable.”

    “Me neither!”

Hwang In-ho and Shin Ah-rang shook their heads.

Just as I was relieved that there was nothing uncomfortable, Shin Hae-il rested his chin on the table and spoke up.

“Master, do you think employees would easily say if they’re uncomfortable?”

    “Uh…”

“They’d probably say there’s nothing uncomfortable even if there is, right?”

    “Is that so…?”

I also couldn’t speak properly when I first met our Master because I was scared.

I hadn’t realized that employees might find it intimidating to talk to me.

Superiors were supposed to be that way.

‘Have I now become someone who makes others uncomfortable?’

That thought was a bit disappointing.

As my ears and tail drooped in gloom, Hwang In-ho and Shin Ah-rang looked surprised.

“I, I really have no discomfort.”

    “Me neither…!”

Seeing the flustered expressions of the two, I realized.

They were trying to appease me, their superior.

My trivial feelings had caused them to panic.

    “Um…”

What should I do to become more comfortable with my employees?

While I was pondering, Shin Hae-il looked at me with a rather serious expression.

“Master, were you about to say to treat them comfortably just now?”

    “Yes… how did you know…?”

    “Just a hunch.”

Saying that, Shin Hae-il stroked his chin and looked down at the table.

After staring at the table for a while, he looked back at me.

“It might be overstepping, but I hope our Master doesn’t say that.”

    “…Can I know why?”

“Just treating employees comfortably doesn’t make a good Master. A good Master is one who lifts their shoulders.”

    “Ah…”

I think I understood what he meant.

Our Master was stoic, so people found him intimidating, but the satisfaction of those belonging to the Dawn Guild was higher than any other guild in the world.

A good Master was never defined solely by their personality.

“And if the Master treats them too comfortably, there will always be those who try to take advantage of that.”

    “Is that so?”

“Yeah. Of course, I’m not saying In-ho and Ah-rang are like that. They’re both really good employees. What I’m talking about is when the guild grows larger in the future.”

“…Because there will be various employees as the scale grows.”

“Right. If even one person starts to look down on the Master, the guild is finished. So rather than treating them comfortably, it would be better to show a suitable amount of dignity.”

    “I see…”

Becoming a good Master rather than a comfortable one.

    Shin Hae-il’s advice made sense.

It was enough to change my perspective.

“Of course, Master, you’re still a novice Master, so you won’t do well from the start. I’m doing this for the first time too. So let’s help each other out as beginners. Got it?”

    “Yes.”

To think I had an employee who sincerely offered me advice on guild management.

Thanks to that, I could set aside some of my anxiety about running the guild.

After the company dinner, I decided to go home and think more about guild management.

    **

    “Um…”

After the company dinner, I returned home and tapped on my smartphone.

It was to research guild management.

How to be a good leader.

    Methods of guild management.

While searching for various things, I stumbled upon something called a group chat room.

    ‘Regional Guild Master Meeting?’

It was a chat room where those who run small guilds gather to share information.

Here, I might be able to obtain the information I wanted.

‘There are a lot of materials in the chat room’s resource section.’

I hurriedly entered the chat room.

There was no specific membership process; I just had to enter the chat room.

-Hello. I came in to learn about guild management.

As soon as I entered, I greeted everyone briefly.

Whether they saw my greeting or not, people responded.

    -Nice to meet you.

    -Hello.

    The atmosphere was good.

At least they weren’t rejecting a newcomer.

Thanks to that, I could comfortably type in the chat.

-Sorry to ask right away, but can I ask a question?

    -Yes, of course.

-That’s what this room is for.

Were they curious about the questions a novice guild master would ask?

Many people started entering the chat room.

-I heard today that I should be a good Master rather than a comfortable one. What exactly is a good Master?

    -A good Master…

At my question, the people in the chat room began discussing what a good Master is.

Among them, one chat caught my attention.

-First of all, it’s good to give proper recognition, right?

    -Proper recognition?

-Yes. You should reward employees who achieve good results. For example, by giving bonuses or promoting them.

    Promotion, huh.

Now that I think about it, I hadn’t really considered the ranks of my employees.

Although everyone was a regular employee, they regarded Shin Hae-il as a superior among them.

Shin Hae-il was someone in a teaching position.

He also generated considerable revenue from the forge.

It would probably feel unfair if Shin Hae-il, who accomplished more than others, remained a regular employee.

I hurriedly decided to promote Shin Hae-il’s rank first.

‘But what should the rank be…?’

Should it just go up like in an ordinary company, like assistant, manager, and department head?

I quickly went to find Shin Hae-il.

It was the first step to becoming a good Master.

    **

Lee Yujin was a Master running a small guild.

She was chatting with a newcomer in the chat room that shared guild management.

    ‘…Did they leave?’

After asking how to become a good Master, the chat suddenly stopped.

It had been fun to discuss with people after a long time.

Did they think there was no gain and just left?

Just as she was about to return to her work.

-Thank you. I realized that I hadn’t promoted my employees.

    -You didn’t promote them…?

    Not promoting them.

Isn’t promotion one of the basics of running a company and a guild?

Lee Yujin looked at the chat room with a bewildered expression.

-Yes. So I just promoted the employee who has been doing the most work.

-Good job. For the first promotion in the company, they should be a junior, right?

    -No, they’re a manager.

    -Huh?

If it’s the first promotion, doesn’t that mean they were an employee until now?

Did she just elevate someone from an employee to a manager in one go?

    -O…

The chat room, which had been lively, came to a halt.

Lee Yujin sensed that the people in the chat room were thinking the same thing as her.

    ‘This is serious.’

There are sometimes people like this.

Those who think of the guild as their toy and run it without rules.

Such people usually go bankrupt quickly.

‘What kind of person could this be?’

Running a guild is no joke.

Why do such people not disappear?

    I’m curious about their face.

There’s a gathering coming up soon; should I call them?

    Tsk.

Clicking her tongue, Lee Yujin placed her hand on the chat room.

She wanted to see the face of someone who takes guild management lightly.
