    548 – Fast Monster

    548 – Fast Monster

Kwon Arin took the video material she received from her sister and went to see her professor.

She didn’t want to bother her sister, so she hadn’t asked for the video material.

Feeling wronged by the low grade she received, she complained to her sister, who then handed over the video material.

    That’s my sister for you.

She’s surprisingly good at taking care of these things.

With anticipation, Kwon Arin watched the professor viewing the video.

But for some reason, her professor was just staring at the video without saying a word.

    “Excuse me, Professor?”

    “……”

    “Professor…?”

Professor Hwang, known for his prickliness, was staring at his smartphone as if possessed.

A fellow professor in the joint research lab, curious about his behavior, reacted.

“Professor Hwang, what are you staring at so intently?”

    “……”

Professor Hwang didn’t respond to his colleague’s question.

Intrigued, he peered at the screen of the smartphone Professor Hwang was holding.

    “……”

    “……”

Following Professor Hwang, even his colleague fell silent.

Kwon Arin couldn’t help but feel bewildered by the silence of the two professors.

Why are they replaying that video three times?

As Kwon Arin sensed something strange, Professor Hwang turned to her.

“Arin, do you know where you got this material?”

“Ah… my sister has the authority to enter the Beastmen village… she’s quite close to the Beastmen people.”

    “Is, is that really true?”

Looking at the surprised professor, Kwon Arin realized that the authority to enter the Beastmen village might be a much bigger deal than she had imagined.

“Professor Hwang, if everything in this video is true, we need to revise the paper, don’t you think?”

“Yes. Have the Beastmen decided to make our country their new homeland?”

The two professors began to debate.

They also asked Kwon Arin questions when they were stuck.

Kwon Arin was able to relieve her frustration by explaining what she had heard from her sister.

    ‘How strange.’

I thought I’d feel smug, thinking, ‘See? I was right when I brought the video material.’

But seeing the professors showing only pure academic curiosity, that feeling disappeared completely.

I guess not just anyone can become a university professor.

As Kwon Arin felt a sense of awe, Professor Hwang’s hand came to rest on her shoulder.

“Arin, would you be interested in joining my lab and doing some proper research?”

    “Research?”

    “Yes, together in the lab…”

    “…Pardon?”

    **

We were all playing a game of guessing animals.

Seeing Bomi hopping around on all fours like a frog, Levinas quickly raised his hand.

    “The answer! Frog!”

    “Wrong! The answer is toad!”

    “Huh?!”

Levinas, failing to guess the correct answer, collapsed onto the grass in the park.

Kwon Arin approached Levinas, who was lying on the ground.

“What are you doing lying here?”

    “Imitating animals!”

“Hmm… what kind of animal could this be?”

An animal that just lies on the ground.

What kind of animal could it be?

    I blinked in confusion.

    “The answer is! A grasshopper!”

    “Oh… just playing around?”

    “Yup!”

Levinas and Kwon Arin laughed in unison.

I see, it was a grasshopper.

Hearing the answer, it made quite a bit of sense.

“Just playing and eating is a good thing.”

Kwon Arin, after patting Levinas’s head, approached me.

    Then, she raised her thumb.

“Gyeoul, thanks to you, my sister’s problem is solved.”

    “Wow, really?”

“Yeah. She got a proposal to become a graduate student, or something like that?”

    “A graduate student?”

To be offered something like that.

It seemed that the Beastmen society was receiving more attention than I had thought.

    “That’s great.”

“Yeah. But she said she’s not going to graduate school.”

    “Is that so?”

    Well, that’s her decision.

I wasn’t going to pay much attention to it, but our kids were different.

“Why aren’t you going to graduate school?! Is graduate school bad?!”

“Well… it’s not bad… no, it’s definitely good after you finish, but the process is very difficult…?”

    “Is that so?!”

It’s good, but you’re giving up because it’s hard.

    How hard could it be?

We, who have never been to college, couldn’t say anything.

“If it’s hard, not doing it is also an option.”

    Mmm.

As Bomi nodded, Haneul widened his eyes in surprise.

The easygoing Bomi and the meticulous Haneul.

It was funny that Bom and Haneul got along so well, even though they had completely different ways of approaching life.

“Anyway, thanks for solving the problem. Thank you.”

“Yup! Come find me anytime if you have more problems! And tell her to come here if she’s having a hard time! Playing together will make the hardship go away!”

“Okay. I’ll tell her to come here if she’s having a hard time.”

Kwon Arin, who had things to do, waved her hand and walked away.

So, we decided to play again.

“Kids, what shall we play this time?”

“Levinas wants to play Red Light, Green Light again! Is that okay?”

    “Gyeoullie too!”

“Okay. Then let’s keep doing that.”

    **

    Dawn Guild conference room.

During the usual meeting, everyone’s attention was drawn to the words coming from Kim Woo-jin, the leader of Team 3.

“I heard a Monster escaped from the lab this time?”

“Again? How many times is that for them?”

    “I gave up counting.”

    Sigh.

Those participating in the meeting sighed.

Because it was a lab with many dangerous Monsters, escape incidents often occurred.

    “So, did they catch it?”

“No, unfortunately, the one that escaped this time is a Winglet.”

    Winglet.

It was named that because it disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Its attack power itself was almost non-existent, but if you weren’t confident in your agility, even a high-ranking adventurer couldn’t react to it.

    “A Winglet, that’s a relief.”

“Yes. Except for being fast, a Winglet is on the level of a goblin.”

“Still, since a Monster escaped, we have to catch it…”

That’s right, we have to catch it.

To catch it, we would have to send a high-ranking adventurer from Dawn, but the problem was that Dawn was quite busy right now.

“Is there anyone who can go?”

    “I’m too busy.”

    “Me too.”

Those participating in the meeting looked at each other.

Unfortunately, no one wanted to catch the Winglet.

It wasn’t dangerous, and it was just fast without any fun in fighting it.

    “……”

    “Hmm…”

In the silence that arose as they looked at each other, Kang Jinho stood up from his seat.

Some of the guild members stood up with him to show respect.

    “Are you going?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about the Winglet and just do what you were doing.”

“Are you just going to leave it alone?”

“No, I’m going to leave it to the kids.”

    Ah.

Come to think of it, we had Gyeoul.

Her reflexes and reaction speed were better than anyone else in Dawn.

Even a Winglet was nothing more than an ordinary person in front of Gyeoul.

    **

    “A Monster escaped?”

A Monster so fast that most adventurers can’t even see it.

For such a Monster to have escaped from the lab.

    Gyeoul was greatly taken aback.

“It’s just fast and not that dangerous. Its combat power itself is at the level of a goblin.”

    “Ah, that’s a relief.”

Even though they were weak, goblins could still kill people.

That’s why Gyeoul decided to accept the Master’s mission.

“Yes. I’ll go and catch it.”

Gyeoul received the location of the lab from the Master and moved to the lab with the kids.

The lab was far away, so they had to take a bus.

    “Ahem.”

Levinas, who got on the bus, took out a bus card from his pocket.

Levinas had finally learned how to use a bus card after a long struggle.

“Levinas, thank you for letting me ride the bus.”

    “Yup!”

Gyeoul was able to arrive at the entrance of the lab after transferring buses one more time.

The lab was protected by iron gates and magical barriers, and there were many people standing in front of the barrier.

    “When is support coming?”

“Are there no guards in our lab who can catch a Winglet?”

    “No. It’s incredibly fast.”

    “Then what should we do…?”

“Let’s just wait a little longer, we got a call saying support is coming from Dawn.”

The researchers watched the lab inside the barrier with hopeless expressions.

Gyeoul realized that the escaped Monster was trapped inside the barrier.

‘The Monster is wandering around inside the lab, so they’re outside.’

The researchers are wasting every second.

I should go and help them quickly.

Gyeoul and the kids approached a researcher who seemed to be of high rank.

    “Excuse me…?”

    “Yes… huh?”

“We’re from the Dawn Guild. They told us to come here and catch the Monster.”

    “Y-you guys?”

The researcher, Ahn Yu-seong, couldn’t help but be flustered when he saw the kids.

He had been looking forward to support coming from Dawn, but Dawn’s kids came instead.

Of course, Ahn Yu-seong also knew that Dawn’s kids were quite skilled adventurers.

But the Monster they had to catch this time was none other than a Winglet.

A Monster with a speed that most adventurers couldn’t even see.

If it had the strength of an orc, it would have been called a disaster-class Monster.

‘I heard they just cleared the fourth stage Dungeon.’

An unsuitable adventurer came when time was of the essence.

Ahn Yu-seong suppressed a sigh and knelt down to the kids’ eye level.

Ahn Yu-seong wasn’t the type to treat kids harshly.

“Guys, I don’t think you can handle it yet, what should we do?”

“I-is that so? The Master said we could handle it…”

    “The Master… Kang Jinho…?”

    “Yes.”

So, they came because Dawn’s Master sent them.

In that case, it was hard for Ahn Yu-seong to stop them.

He wasn’t brave enough to refuse Kang Jinho’s support.

    “W-well…”

    Ahn Yu-seong pondered.

What if Dawn’s Master sent support and they failed?

Maybe he could use this as an excuse to get more support later.

    “T-then…”

The Winglet’s attacks themselves weren’t dangerous to adventurers.

First, he would ask the kids for help, and if they failed, he would just use that as an excuse to get more benefits from Dawn.

The responsibility for the support failure was on the adventurer’s side.

It was a truly perfect plan.
