Chapter Index

South of Bern City. A neighborhood with long rows of single-family homes.

Here is the house where Victoria lived.

The last time I saw it, it was a colorful neighborhood, but now it looks dreary.

Here and there, you can see traces of fire, and houses with their doors and windows boarded up.

A house without such a thing looks even more eerie because the door blocking the entrance is open.

We passed that dark house and arrived at our destination.

    “Are you here?”

    “Yes.”

The entrance door is split in half and lies inward, and a nearby window is also broken. It’s dark, so it’s hard to see inside the room, but it doesn’t look like anyone is living there.

But just in case, I went inside.

    “It’s a mess.”

The interior is visible through the shimmering moonlight, but it’s a mess, as if someone has run amok.

    The kitchen is particularly bad.

When the logistics of a large city are blocked, there are many memories that quickly disappear. So when attacking a city, if it is blocked, it will collapse from the inside without much time, and the average amount of food coming and going in the city. These memories come to light.

    That means it was looted.

Is this the city of apocalypse?

If that’s the case, then survivors will have to fight each other at some point, as it will only consume what they have.

In such a serious situation, the losing side may remain.

So I looked around the house.

    That’s fortunate.

    “There are no dead people.”

“Ah, so that’s why you went all the way to look inside?”

    “Yes.”

While I was going around every corner of the house, Polaris was cleaning up the living room, and the place where we used to sit and watch TV was now clean enough to sit down.

The TV is covered in dust, but it looks clean, so I guess the house was robbed because of groceries. If I remember correctly, they were quite expensive items.

In other words, it will be difficult to get food from nearby houses, including this one.

Look at Polaris sitting on the sofa, gasping for breath.

From her perspective, it’s not particularly cold or difficult, but it’s probably just mental fatigue. That thing.

I approached Polaris and took her hand.

    “Why?”

    “Follow me.”

And then I grabbed it and dragged it to the room I was living in. It was originally for guests, so there wasn’t much luggage, and the bedding was stored inside.

In other words, it means that it is an environment where you can sleep well.

I just pushed him onto the bed and brought him a blanket.

“No, growing up in this situation?”

“Yes. Polaris. I don’t know, but you should sleep.”

It’s still early fall, so thankfully the nights aren’t that chilly.

    “Still fine.”

“But I’m tired. Not physically, but mentally.”

When I explained the facts while pointing to her large breasts, Polaris tried to say something but couldn’t open her mouth.

What was simply a matter of finding someone you knew and bringing them back became a matter of having to pass through the place where a terrible incident was taking place.

    It’s like having an accident.

It’s a tough thing for a girl to go through.

It seems like it’s going to get warm soon, and I’m feeling a little less cold and have some free time for the first time in a while.

I was worried that Polaris would be bothered by my struggling, so I just hugged her and lay down. Then I closed my eyes.

Polaris sighed softly and closed her eyes. And soon after, she fell into a deep sleep.

    See, I said I’m tired.

If you put some force into it, someone like me can be easily dealt with, but it’s obvious when you see me without force.

I’m going to put my body to sleep and focus a little more on Victoria’s point of view.

Right now in the center of Bern City, the Purple Twilight Society. Two factions within it are fighting among themselves after telling Victoria to join them.

By the way, both factions are thinking of swallowing up the Purple Twilight Society and becoming independent. One side is thinking of establishing a country, while the other side seems to be thinking of doing it through religion.

Those who are now surrounding Victoria in the center of Bern City no longer want to find out the truth.

I learned how strong I was while fighting Marquis Gaston’s army in Bern City.

Because I have power, I want to use that power to change the world.

    I think so myself.

I would have thought the same thing if I hadn’t known that the man who frequently appeared in the harvester’s gaze was somehow fanning her desires.

An ordinary looking person with no particularly notable flaws. However, he moves around cleverly, shouting to those in power that he can do more with this power.

Sometimes you find yourself among the radicals, sometimes you find yourself among groups that have no intention of fighting at all.

And then immediately start agitating people.

Well, it’s not like I’m using any particularly special methods.

During the day, bombs come flying in sporadically, so most people hide between buildings. But at night, they come out, light fires, and do things to survive.

Work involves making a place to sleep, strengthening a fortress, or finding food.

And when that’s over, there’s a lot of time for everyone to gather, and if you join in and say things like how hard work was today, and then build some intimacy, and then criticize the current situation, that’s the end of it.

    It will burn by itself.

Just like in any world, people get incited so easily when you badmouth politicians at a drinking party.

And especially when things are tough physically and mentally, it’s easy to blame the other person.

This is the result of things like that accumulating and becoming excessively large.

After escaping Bern City in all directions, it would be enough to spread out across the country and tell the story of what happened in Bern City, but they chose to isolate themselves and fight.

    Yeah.

The corporate side is definitely a few levels ahead.

What would happen if a person who destroyed the corporate aristocracy and its military command appeared in such a place?

    He is a dangerous person.

Between the gazes of the harvesters, Victoria walks around whispering in a voice so small that only those nearby can hear, asking if she is suspicious and if she is a lackey of the royal family.

And that suspicion spreads surprisingly easily.

Even if you tell only one or two people, those who hear will immediately run to their acquaintances and whisper that it might be dangerous.

Of course, given the circumstances, it’s not strange to tell someone you know to be careful.

But what if we do it intentionally and simultaneously?

We don’t even know where it spread from, and it’s disguised as if it were the public opinion.

Even if it wouldn’t work under normal circumstances, if you’re exposed to extreme situations for dozens of days, your sanity will slowly diminish.

I don’t know if they’ve been living that kind of life from the beginning, but most of the people here are originally ordinary citizens living in Bern City.

I’m a city person who lives in the most sophisticated city in the world.

What would happen if Victoria, in this situation, decided not to join either of the two factions with the strongest opinions?

Become enemies of two groups with loud voices.

    Not one, but two.

Besides, the person who is the most distant in terms of psychic distance is Victoria. She is often on the news, and she is the one who helped people when a big incident occurred in Bern City.

Rather, that is why I wonder why that person and not me went to the capital and lived well.

What you do is great, and what others do is trivial.

There are many people who think that way. So, even if you look at it objectively, it’s the same, or even if that person didn’t do a good job, it’s different when you look at it.

Self-objectification is a very difficult skill. Most people don’t know how to use it, have only heard of it, or have mistakenly thought they were using it.

And there’s also jealousy. It’s so natural to feel a pain when someone else is doing well, and to want to bring them down, that it doesn’t need to be explained.

To those who are so hostile towards Victoria, Victoria tells them that she doesn’t care about them and that she is only looking for her family.

But people who hear that think it’s an excuse, because they’re not on our side.

That is, all enemy words are bad.

First, they try to deny and crush it by shouting that it’s a lie. I’m right and you’re wrong.

Where have I seen it a lot?

When the loudest person starts swearing, others follow suit and swear at Victoria one by one.

Do you know what the scariest thing is?

Victoria is completely unwavering in situations that would crush even an adult. If she were nervous, her breathing would get faster and she would sweat, but she doesn’t do that.

    at that time.

Someone attacked. At least it wasn’t the Harvester’s superpower. It was someone throwing a rock. Unfortunately, even if I recall my memories, I can’t tell who threw it from the Harvester’s perspective.

    Choaaah

A column of water fell vertically from the sky.

Not only the stone, but the entire surrounding area was sucked into the water column. Dozens of people who were in the place where the stone flew were literally crushed in the water.

Victoria. You don’t mind killing people anymore?

    Hehehe.

The water is even darker at night and ripples ominously.

“I can’t control my strength right now, who wants to bother me more?”

Victoria stood quietly on the side of the road and asked.

    Everyone kept their mouths shut.

I’ve seen firsthand what happens when you rebel now.

Those who gain power in Bern City gain the technology to stop the machines that run on magic in this world of magic civilization, and can use superpowers that are not related to magic.

    That’s why it’s strong.

Even if you are a warrior with technology from before the technological age, you use magic to strengthen your body. What happens if you put contaminated magic into it?

At first, it uses the horsepower stored inside, but when it runs out, it takes horsepower from outside. But what happens if you put cooking oil in a car that requires gasoline?

Rather, the more warrior-type you are, the more lethal it is.

In my experience, at first I was able to swing the sword so I ran confidently, but it broke down right away.

    So he died more miserably.

The harvesters in Bern City are confident in their abilities. Up until now, the enemies who entered Bern City were immediately turned into fools, so they only killed people who were originally stronger than them but are now weaker.

However, overwhelming superior compatibility appeared as an enemy.

Most people were terrified when they saw Victoria.

    Hmm.

    It’s a pity.

If she were a little more violent, it would probably bring in more warmth… … If this continues, Victoria will convince those around her to get what she wants.

The man who has been seen occasionally during the harvest season.

Are you not going to do something… … .
