Ch. 58 The Island of the Dwarves
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 58 – The Island of the Dwarves
“Listen up! Prepare a feast , one for me and my friend!”
At Isolin’s command, the Panto children scrambled about, moving tables and chairs in a frenzy.
A large table was dragged in, quickly laden with all manner of delicacies.
“Here, Supreme! Sit comfortably!”
I stared at Isolin, who was ordering people around as if it were the most natural thing.
Logically, she couldn’t have been on this island for more than half a day—yet she acted like she owned the place.
It was strange.
Isolin piled food onto a large plate and pushed it toward me, her eyes sparkling expectantly. The pressure of her gaze was almost unbearable.
I picked up my fork and asked,
“What exactly happened here? (‘Goddess’? )And have you seen Gladia or Nyongmom?”
“Ah, well…”
Isolin took a sip of crimson-red wine and began explaining.
Half a day ago, she arrived on this island alone.
Of course like me, she set out to find the others.
But the first thing she stumbled upon was a group of Panto children in danger—attacked by monsters.
Isolin didn’t hesitate. She loved kids, so without a second thought, she blasted the monsters away with her magic.
“And then…?”
“Suddenly, they started bowing and calling me a goddess. Guess they recognized my greatness, huh?”
She puffed out her chest proudly, resting a hand on my shoulder. I had the sudden urge to flick her forehead.
“Is that really all? Hard to believe…”
“Totally plausible”
Liza chimed in from the side.
“Your friend’s a mage, right? The Panto believe magic is a divine power.”
I gave Isolin a skeptical look.
In response, she abruptly stood up and shot a stream of fire into the sky.
FWOOOSH—!
“T-The goddess is angry!”
“Was the food disgusting to her ??!”
“Emergency! Emergency!”
“Execute the new chef!!”
They were overreacting to a simple fire spell.
Isolin watched the panicking Panto with exasperation before declaring,
“Silence! I am not angry! I merely displayed divine power to express my joy at reuniting with my friend!”
The Panto immediately dropped to the ground, prostrating themselves.
“O Goddess!”
“O Goddess!”
Liza was right. The Panto, who knew nothing of magic, truly revered mages as divine. Even though an actual priestess—me—stood right beside them.
I wiggled my fingers, deep in thought. Being worshipped as a goddess by a village of childlike beings…
Honestly, it didn’t sound too bad. But I couldn’t lose sight of my goal. Somewhere in this world, a vile faction plotting its destruction still lurked.
I couldn’t stop level up(ing) until they were eradicated. And I still had to find Gladia and Nyongmom.
I abruptly stood and grabbed Isolin’s hand. She didn’t resist, merely twitching her fingers in surprise.
“Let’s go, Isolin. We need to find the others.”
Nyongmom was resourceful—I wasn’t worried about her. The problem was Gladia.
Gladia wasn’t helpless, but she had her moments. Right now, she might be stuck in some tree hollow, unable to move, waiting for help.
But Isolin hesitated, looking at me with an awkward expression.
“I… kinda promised them something…”
Turns out, in her half-day as a goddess, Isolin had gotten carried away. She’d boasted that she’d solve all the Panto’s problems before leaving.
“So you can’t leave until you fix it?”
“Mm… I’d feel bad abandoning them now.”
I sighed. The Panto’s pleading eyes were hard to ignore.
“What’s the problem?”
“Well…”
The Panto faced many issues, big and small. The minor ones they could handle themselves, but the major ones required outside help.
“Monster extermination?”
“Yeah. Giant ants called Big Giants keep attacking their farms. I said I’d take care of them, but…”
Big Giants. As the name suggested, they were massive ant monsters. Unlike normal ants, they acted alone, which was a small mercy.
At around Level 25, they were manageable—if we had a tank to draw aggro, Isolin could handle the rest.
“That’s nothing. Let’s go deal with it now.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
Though the Panto looked like children, they had warriors. Their levels were low, and their gear shoddy—some had iron swords, but most wielded stone spears or clubs.
But with me as their healer, they’d manage.
Isolin immediately stood and shouted,
“Warriors! Assemble! We march to slay the Big Giants!”
“OOOOOH!”
“By the goddess’s command! Gather the warriors!”
“YEAHHH!”
About twenty warriors gathered, their levels ranging from 10 to 15. Their expressions were solemn, like clerics preparing for a holy war.
Isolin raised her voice.
“Forward! MARCH!”
—UWAAAAH!
—HIEEEEH!
Their battle cries were impressive. We set off toward the Panto farmlands, leaving Liza behind in the village.
The farm was home to winged rabbits, fruit-bearing turtles, and pig-dog hybrids grazing peacefully.
Guards stood watch, tense as they scanned the forest. Something massive rustled in the shadows.
Then—a giant ant emerged.
[Lv. 22]
[Big Giant]
True to its name, it was enormous—about 180 cm long, scuttling like a grown man on all fours. Disgusting.
Isolin didn’t hesitate.
“Charge!”
“UWAAAAH!”
“YAAAAH!”
No tactics. Just a full-frontal assault while Isolin prepped spells from the rear.
I sprinted after them, frantically casting buffs on every warrior. My mana drained rapidly, but I gulped potions to keep up.
By the time they reached the ant, every warrior was enhanced.
“Attack! The goddess is with us!”
“UWAAAH! I feel so strong!”
—KEEEEEEK!
The Big Giant fought back, slashing with its massive limbs. But the warriors didn’t falter, clubbing it relentlessly.
Its hard shell cracked under the barrage. The finishing blow came from Isolin’s fireball.
BOOM—!
The ant’s head exploded. The warriors cheered, raising their weapons in triumph.
The battle raged on. Warriors rushed in, beating down ants while Isolin delivered the final strikes.
My job was healing. The more mana I spent, the more my stomach swelled from potions.
“Ugh… h-hurk…”
“Supreme…”
Isolin patted my bloated belly sympathetically. The warriors gasped.
“The goddess made a child!!”
“Ohhhh!”
(tl: w** is happening hhaha)
