    Chapter 92

    “The tail…”

Serena smiled at the corner of her mouth.

    “It’s a secret.”

    “Eh…”

    Finn made a bewildered expression.

Beside her, Lucy swallowed hard and blushed.

    “W-well, anyway…”

    Lucy hurriedly opened her mouth.

“Why did you call me all the way here…?”

“Of course, because I wanted to see our daughter!”

Serena hugged Lucy tightly once again.

While her face was being squished, Lucy narrowed her eyes slightly.

It didn’t seem like she was called here just because Serena wanted to see her.

There must have been a more plausible reason…

    “Ah.”

    Lucy remembered.

“Is it because of the shadow demon?”

Shadow demons are beings that feed on the fears of children.

    They only appear to children.

Serena, being an adult, couldn’t hear the shadow demon’s voice.

It must have been difficult for Serena to deal with it.

“Did you call me here to handle the shadow demon?”

    “…!”

    Serena flinched in surprise.

“Well, that’s not entirely untrue… but I really wanted to see you!”

    “…”

Lucy let out a small sigh.

“Calling me all the way here just to deal with a demon…”

Lucy put on a hurt expression.

Of course, she wasn’t actually hurt.

The reason she came here was out of curiosity anyway.

She was curious about what the Black Forest was like and what kind of person her mother was.

It didn’t matter why her mother had called her.

The hurt expression was just a joke.

    “I’m sorry, Lucy…”

Serena’s eyes welled up with tears.

“I didn’t mean to use you. I just needed your help… because I can’t hear the shadow demon’s voice. And I really missed you…”

Serena seemed to think Lucy was genuinely hurt.

    “But it’s no wonder you’re hurt. I’m such a bad mother…”

Lucy stared at Serena for a moment, then slowly shook her head.

“It’s okay. I missed you too.”

    “Sniff, Lucy!”

Serena cupped Lucy’s cheeks and began planting kisses all over her face.

“How can my daughter be so kind? You’re so lovable!”

    Lucy’s face gradually turned red.

    “S-stop…”

After being smothered with affection by Serena for a while, Lucy slumped to the floor.

Sophie sat next to Lucy with a smile, while Finn flapped her wings and explored Serena’s house.

Serena brought snacks and tea and placed them on the table.

    “Is Grandpa doing well?”

    At her question, Lucy nodded.

    “He’s doing very well.”

    “Really? That’s good to hear.”

“How long have you been living in Harmonia?”

    “Hmm, I don’t remember exactly.”

    Serena smiled softly.

“Maybe it was shortly after you were born?”

    “That’s a long time.”

It seemed like almost ten years.

“Did you summon the black mist?”

    “Yes.”

“And the undead, demons, and golems?”

“That’s right. To protect Harmonia from humans.”

    At that moment.

    Someone knocked on Serena’s door.

    Knock knock.

Serena quickly put on a fox ear headband.

    Her tail had already appeared.

She strode over and opened the door.

    “Ahem…”

Standing at the door was Kaelan, the chief of Harmonia, a wolf beastman.

His face was red, and he held a flower in his hand.

“I picked this on the way because it looked pretty…”

Kaelan handed the flower to Serena.

    Serena happily accepted it.

“Oh, how pretty. Thank you, Kaelan.”

    “Ahem.”

“Come in. Lucy and Sophie are here too.”

    Kaelan looked slightly surprised.

“Ah, then I’ll come back later…”

“Oh, don’t be like that. Come in.”

As Serena pulled him by the arm, Kaelan was dragged inside and stood awkwardly in the corner of the living room.

He looked at Lucy and asked.

“So… did you resolve the issue?”

    Lucy nodded.

“The children shouldn’t hear the voices anymore.”

“Th-that was fast… I didn’t expect it to be resolved in just a day.”

“See, Kaelan? I made the right choice entrusting it to her.”

“Indeed… As promised, you can stay in Harmonia until you meet your mother.”

    “Thank you.”

Although she had already met her mother, Lucy didn’t mention it.

She intended to keep Serena’s secret.

“Now, Kaelan, let’s go to that flower field from yesterday. Let’s finish what we started.”

    “Sh-shall we…?”

Kaelan’s ears perked up, and his wolf tail wagged gently.

Serena linked arms with Kaelan and looked at Lucy.

“Lucy, since the chief has given his permission, take it easy and rest in Harmonia for a few days. I’ll make you something delicious for dinner!”

    “Okay.”

As Lucy replied, Serena left with Kaelan.

Kaelan’s tail continued to wag until it disappeared outside the door.

“What are they going to do…”

Finn muttered as she perched on Lucy’s shoulder.

“Gasp, are they going to make Lucy a sibling?”

    “No way…”

Lucy shook her head as if it were ridiculous.

But she couldn’t help but wonder if that might actually be the case.

Whatever it was, Kaelan seemed to be looking forward to it.

Lucy stayed in Harmonia for a few days.

During the day, she played various games with the beastman children and explored their ears and tails. At night, she ate dinner with Serena at her house.

    Serena’s cooking skills were excellent.

Like Lucy, she disliked mushrooms, so there wasn’t a single mushroom on the table.

“Mushrooms are a bit… weird. Their shape and smell are off-putting. I just don’t feel like eating them.”

    “Same here.”

Thanks to that, Lucy was able to enjoy her meals immensely.

    After dinner, they bathed together.

At first, Lucy was embarrassed and refused, but Serena forcibly dragged her in, washing her hair and body.

Every time Serena’s hands touched her, Lucy flinched in surprise. Serena seemed to enjoy this reaction and teased her even more.

    They even slept together.

Every night, something heavy pressed against Lucy’s face, causing her to have a few nightmares.

Still, it was a fun time overall.

When it was time to leave a few days later, Lucy felt a pang of sadness.

    “Well, I’ll be going now.”

At Lucy’s words, Serena smiled and nodded.

“Next time, I’ll come to see you. Thank you for coming all this way.”

    Serena hugged Lucy tightly.

Lucy couldn’t breathe, but this time she didn’t struggle and quietly hugged Serena back.

Serena trembled slightly and whispered in a small voice.

    “Take care, my daughter.”

    “Stay healthy.”

Lucy slowly pulled away from Serena’s embrace.

Soon, the beastman children began to gather nearby.

They had come to see Lucy off after hearing she was leaving.

Having grown attached to her, they were all teary-eyed.

    “Are you really leaving…?”

A wolf beastman child asked, sniffling.

    Lucy smiled softly and nodded.

    “I’ll come back again.”

Then, a bear beastman child spread their arms and hugged Lucy tightly.

“You have to come back! You must! Let’s play tag again! Of course, you’ll be ‘it’!”

    “Okay.”

    “Sniff…”

A small cat beastman child rubbed their face against Lucy, tears in their eyes.

“I wanted to play more with you…”

At that moment, Finn, who was perched on Lucy’s shoulder, linked arms and said.

“Don’t be too sad, everyone. It’s not like you’ll never see each other again.”

The beastman children also said their goodbyes to Finn.

    “Finn, take care…”

“I’m sorry for teasing you about being small…”

“Please come back and play with us…”

Finn quickly turned her head and wiped her tears.

“O-of course, I’ll come back. If Lucy and I don’t come, you’ll all be too bored.”

    “Sniff…!”

Lucy bowed her head and gently patted the heads of the crying beastman children, one by one.

    “Lucy…”

Beside her, Sophie spoke with her ears drooping.

“Thank you so much… for saving me and defeating the shadow demon… I’ll never forget it.”

Then, a loud bark came from the ground.

Looking down, Hon was rubbing his horn against Sophie’s leg.

Sophie wiped her tears and patted Hon’s head.

    “Take care, Hon…”

Lucy reached her hand toward the sky.

She planned to ride the Bone Dragon and leave the Black Forest.

The sky above the Black Forest was obscured by fog, but if she flew straight in one direction, she would quickly escape.

    [Summon Undead: Bone Dragon]

As she cast the skill, a massive Bone Dragon appeared in the sky.

    Whoosh! Whoosh!

Its bone wings sliced through the air, making a heavy sound.

The Bone Dragon circled once before landing in front of Lucy with a thud.

Lucy slowly climbed onto the Bone Dragon’s head and sat down.

When she looked up, she saw Serena and the beastman children waving.

Lucy waved back, then whispered to the Bone Dragon.

    “Let’s go.”

    “Grrr…!”

The Bone Dragon’s blue eyes glowed once before it began flapping its wings and gaining altitude.

Lucy’s hair fluttered in the wind.

The sight of Harmonia gradually grew smaller until it disappeared completely from view.

“…Lucy’s mom was more unique than I expected.”

    Finn said.

    “And very beautiful too.”

    Lucy nodded in agreement.

The warmth and pressure she felt in her mother’s embrace were still vivid.

“I want to see her again.”

Lucy’s soft murmur spread into the sky above.
