Ch. 64 Munchkin – Chapter 64
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 64
“Hmm…”
Finn slowly opened her eyes.
Warm morning sunlight streamed over her face.
“When did we get back…”
Looking around, she realized she was in the inn room.
Finn tried to recall what had happened last night.
Last night, Finn had used a lot of healing dust to heal Brian and Thomas.
Afterward, she was completely exhausted and fell asleep inside Lucy’s clothes.
“Did Lucy manage to deal with the monster…”
Finn was currently wrapped up in a towel.
Lucy must’ve done that to make sure Finn didn’t catch a cold.
“But why am I on the table…”
Finn was lying on the inn’s table.
Normally, she slept in the bed with Lucy, so why was she on the table today?
Finn turned her gaze toward the bed and soon realized why she was on the table.
“…”
On the bed, Lucy was sleeping while hugging something.
That something was a fluffy wolf cub.
It was definitely the same wolf cub they had seen yesterday.
Lucy must’ve wrapped Finn in a towel and placed her on the table because of the wolf cub.
She was probably worried the cub might try to eat Finn.
Finn carefully flew over to the bed.
Lucy and the wolf cub were sleeping peacefully.
The wolf cub’s head was resting on Lucy’s arm, and its tail twitched slightly, as if it were dreaming.
The steady breathing of Lucy and the wolf cub filled the room.
“Hmm…”
Finn narrowed her eyes.
Upon closer inspection, she noticed a small horn growing on the wolf cub’s forehead.
Wolves don’t usually have horns…
At that moment.
The wolf cub opened its eyes.
“Huh?”
Finn flinched in surprise.
They were too close.
The wolf cub might try to eat her.
Finn quickly turned her body, but the wolf cub reacted immediately.
Lick—
“Eek…!”
Finn grimaced at the warm, wet sensation.
At the same time, she flew up to get out of the wolf cub’s reach.
“Wh-what are you doing?!”
Finn, now floating in the air, reached behind her to touch her bottom.
It was completely soaked.
The wolf cub had licked her bottom the moment she turned around.
“You idiot!”
Finn grumbled, but the wolf cub just stood on all fours, wagging its tail.
Its mouth was open in what looked like a smile, with its little tongue sticking out slightly.
Its shiny eyes were fixed on Finn.
“What are you so happy about?”
At that moment.
Lucy also opened her eyes.
“Lucy!”
Finn flew over to Lucy, avoiding the wolf cub.
“Why is that thing here?”
“…I brought it last night.”
Lucy explained what had happened the night before.
After defeating the monster, she had made a deal with Brian and Thomas to carry the monster’s body back to the village in exchange for half the reward.
And this wolf cub seemed to be a monster, so after some thought, she decided to bring it back to the inn.
After hearing Lucy’s explanation, Finn put a finger to her lips and looked surprised.
“A monster…? No wonder it had a horn on its forehead. Wolves don’t usually have horns.”
“…It’s probably the offspring of the monster we defeated last night.”
“Then… it doesn’t have parents?”
Finn turned her head to look at the wolf cub.
The wolf cub was lying on the bed, licking its paw.
“So, Lucy, are you planning to keep it with you? Isn’t it dangerous since it’s a monster?”
Lucy nodded.
Even though it’s a cub now, it might grow up to prey on humans.
After all, that’s what had been happening in Silverwood Village, which is why they had posted the notice.
“…If we train it properly, it might become a non-dangerous monster.”
Lucy said this while stroking the wolf cub’s belly.
The wolf cub let out a low growl and closed its eyes.
Finn sat on Lucy’s shoulder and quietly watched the wolf cub.
“Well… if that’s the case, let’s keep it for now. You never know. It might grow big enough to ride on later. My brother’s elf friend used to ride a giant wolf. Though that wolf was a spirit, not a monster… Wait, more importantly!”
Finn frowned.
“You told those guys to carry the monster’s body yesterday? What if they try to steal the reward?”
“If they do, Amon will…”
“Ah.”
Finn nodded in understanding.
If it came to that, Amon could easily track them down and catch them.
“Hehe.”
Finn’s lips curled into a smile.
“Those guys better think carefully. If they betray us, they’ll pay the price. So, Lucy, what are you going to name it? If you’re going to keep it, it should have a name.”
“I already named it.”
Lucy gently touched the horn on the wolf cub’s forehead as she spoke.
“Hon.”
“Hon?”
“Yes. It sounds like ‘horn.’”
“Ah, because of the horn on its forehead…? Hmm…”
It was a simple yet intuitive name.
A little later, Lucy left the inn and walked toward the entrance of Silverwood Village.
She was supposed to meet Brian and Thomas there today.
Hon was nestled in Lucy’s arms, and Finn was perched on her shoulder.
“Do you think those guys will keep their promise?”
At Finn’s question, Lucy nodded slightly.
From what Lucy had seen, Brian and Thomas didn’t seem like bad people.
If they were, they would’ve tried something underhanded by now.
Like that merchant who had tried to poison Lucy before.
On the other hand, Brian had chased Hon away yesterday, claiming he was saving Lucy from a monster…
“Ah.”
Lucy’s eyes widened for a moment.
Come to think of it, Hon really was a monster.
Brian had been telling the truth.
“…Tsk, what a shame.”
Finn muttered.
“Those guys kept their promise. Amon lost his chance to shine.”
At Finn’s words, Lucy looked up.
In the distance, Brian was waving his hand with a smile.
Beside him, Thomas was fidgeting and bowing his head.
Soon, the two approached Lucy.
“Here, take this.”
Brian handed something over.
It was a heavy pouch filled with silver coins.
“It’s 40 silver. We only carried the body, so splitting it in half felt unfair.”
“A-and this too…”
Thomas also handed something over.
What Thomas gave was a shiny gemstone.
“That lich from yesterday seemed to really like gems…”
A small, transparent blue gem.
“I bought it from a miner for 5 silver.”
“Thank you. I’ll make sure to give it to Crevius.”
Lucy smiled faintly.
She had already promised to buy Crevius a gem, and this would be perfect.
Brian cleared his throat and spoke.
“And there’s this too.”
He handed something to Finn.
Finn tilted her head and accepted the item.
It was a small flower-shaped brooch.
Finn’s eyes sparkled.
“Wow! This is so pretty! Is this for me?”
“Yeah. You healed us yesterday.”
“Ohhh!”
Finn held the brooch and spun around in the air.
“I really love this! You guys have better taste than I thought!”
Brian shrugged.
“Well, girls like that kind of thing!”
“It’s totally my style! Thank you!”
Finn attached the brooch to her chest and fluttered around excitedly.
Brian, looking satisfied, then handed something to Lucy.
“There’s something for you too.”
It was a small doll.
A soft, plush rabbit doll.
Lucy quietly accepted the doll, but her expression didn’t change much.
Unlike Finn, her reaction was stoic.
Brian looked uneasy.
“I-isn’t it cute…? Do you not like it…?”
At Brian’s words, Lucy glanced at the rabbit doll.
Its long, floppy ears were cute, but it was still just a doll.
Lucy wasn’t the type to get excited over receiving a doll. It wasn’t useful.
But since it was a gift, she didn’t want to disappoint him.
Lucy forced a smile.
“Thank you. I like it.”
She figured she could use the doll as a toy for Hon.
“Hmm~ By the way, are you guys going to be okay?”
Finn sat on Thomas’s shoulder and asked.
“You only took 10 silver, and after giving these gifts, you won’t have much left.”
“I-it’s fine. You saved our lives, after all. Um, actually, there’s something we’d like to ask…”
Thomas hesitated, unable to continue.
Brian then spoke up.
“Can we travel with you?”
An unexpected request.
Lucy blinked.
“…Travel with us?”
“Yeah. I want to learn how to hunt monsters by following a strong witch like you. Carrying bodies or running errands is fine too, so we’ll follow you…”
“Wait.”
Lucy raised her hand to stop Brian.
“I’m not a monster hunter. Besides, I’m on my way to meet my mom. We’re heading to the Black Forest.”
“The Black Forest…?”
Brian looked momentarily surprised but soon put on a determined expression.
“That’s fine. In fact, if it’s the Black Forest, there’ll definitely be plenty of chances to fight monsters along the way. We want to help out however we can. It’s not like we can do much on our own anyway… We’ll make sure not to get in your way.”
Lucy quietly looked at Brian and Thomas.
Their faces showed sincerity, and there was a sense of resolve.
At the very least, Lucy didn’t sense any ulterior motives.
“What’s this~”
Finn said with a laugh.
“So that’s why you gave us gifts? Was it a bribe?”
Brian and Thomas flinched.
“N-no, it’s not like that…”
“We just wanted to show our gratitude…”
“Well, whatever. I like the gifts, so it’s fine. More importantly, Lucy, what do you think? Are you okay with traveling with these guys?”
At Finn’s question, Lucy slowly nodded.
“It’s fine to travel together.”
Brian and Thomas’s faces lit up.
“Thank you!”
Brian even picked Lucy up and spun her around before setting her back down.
“If there’s anything you need us to do, just tell us! We’ll handle everything! Hahaha!”
Translator Note
T/N (Translator’s note):
In the raws, Hon’s name, 혼(Hon) sounds like the word Horn in english, not to be confused by 뿔(ppul) which is horn in korean.
