Ch. 223 Chae-yoon unnie’s family is so harmonious!
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 223: Chae-yoon unnie’s family is so harmonious!
Clearly, I didn’t come to the CEO’s house but to Chae-yoon unnie’s house.
Yet, why…?
“Hey, if you were going to come early, you should’ve greeted your mother first! What kind of nonsense is it to hide behind your junior like this?!”
“Ow, ow! Stop hitting me, Mom!”
I felt like I was experiencing déjà vu.
The sharp, rhythmic sound of slaps echoed through the room, leaving me frozen in place.
Even Chae-yoon unnie—who’s our team’s main damage dealer—was being utterly helpless like this.
Guess the food chain always has a higher predator.
“Your name was Da-jeong, right?”
“Ah, yes. Um…”
Just as I was debating whether to intervene—
The kind-faced man sitting across the low table, Chae-yoon unnie’s father, spoke to me.
I hesitated over how to address him, but he noticed and smiled warmly.
“Just call me ‘dad.’ The house is a bit noisy—must be surprising, huh?”
“Ah, no. It actually seems really lively and nice.”
I waved my hands dismissively, but Chae-yoon unnie’s dad just nodded knowingly, as if this was a familiar scene.
“Ugh, if only I had known Lulu had come too, I’d have gone all out… Go peel some fruit. Mom will make the tea.”
“Huh? Mom, I don’t know how to peel apples… Can’t I just make the tea instead?”
“You’re this old and still bragging about incompetence, you brat!”
“Ow, ow! Stop hitting me in front of the youngest…!”
…Yeah. That’s how it is.
Eventually, Chae-yoon unnie and her mother switched roles.
While Chae-yoon unnie boiled water and brewed tea, her mother quickly peeled fruit and brought it to the living room.
“Ah, I’ve always wanted to meet our Lulu at least once. I’ve watched your streams a few times, you know.”
She kept calling me by my avatar name, not my real one.
Earlier, Chae-yoon unnie had hinted that I should use my real name in person, but her mother said she’d grown attached to “Lulu” from watching my streams.
I didn’t mind, though I’d prefer if she didn’t call me that outside…
“Yeah, unnie told me. You watch all the members’ streams…”
“Well, they’re the kids my daughter works with, so I’ve grown fond of them. Especially you, Lulu.”
“Ehehe… Thank you.”
I took a bite of the crisp apple and bowed my head.
Her mother stared at me adoringly, calling me cute.
The attention was a little overwhelming, but since it came from affection, I endured it and finished the apple.
“And I saw how you took care of my daughter last time.”
“Y-You saw that?”
“Not on stream—she sent me pictures later. You’re quite the cook, huh?”
She showed me photos on her phone—simple meals I’d made when I stayed at Chae-yoon unnie’s place.
“Ah, no, it’s nothing special. Just basic stuff.”
“For someone living alone, that’s plenty. Unlike someone here who can’t even peel fruit at her age and is stuck making tea. Ugh.”
She thumped her chest in exasperation, glaring toward the kitchen.
Chae-yoon unnie’s voice shot back:
“I can hear you?!”
“And what’re you gonna do about it, huh?!”
“J-Just saying…”
Yeah. A futile resistance.
“B-But Chae-yoon unnie took really good care of me too! She asked every day if I was comfortable and even bought me treats when I cooked too much.”
“That’s the bare minimum. If you can’t even do that for your junior, why call yourself an unnie? Tear off the title.”
I tried to defend Chae-yoon unnie, but her mother just snorted, unimpressed.
Ugh, sorry, unnie…! I tried.
“That’s enough. Chae-yoon might be rough around the edges, but she’s responsible and hardworking. Aren’t you proud? You’re making Da-jeong uncomfortable.”
Chae-yoon unnie’s dad cut in at just the right moment.
Instantly, the irritation melted from her mother’s face, replaced by a lovestruck smile.
“Fine. Here, try this apple. Your father sent them—they’re honey-sweet.”
“I could’ve gotten my own.”
“Oh, just take it! No need to be so cold.”
She even speared a piece with a fork and fed it to him, pouting playfully.
Hei glanced at me awkwardly before taking a bite.
“…Surprised? My parents are kinda lovey-dovey.”
I was gaping at the scene when Chae-yoon unnie sat beside me, tea in hand.
“Y-Yeah… A little. Your mom is so sweet to your dad.”
“Mm. Mom’s whipped for Dad. Before I moved out, I even saw them kiss when he left for work.”
“Whoa…”
Wait, that stuff actually happens outside of movies?
And they’ve been married for 30 years?
That’s true love.
“Well, we can’t let them show us up. Wanna give it a try?”
“Huh? Try what…?”
I was quietly munching on fruit when unnie suddenly held out her fork, grinning mischievously.
…What’s she planning?
Some kind of trick?
I can’t do fork-juggling or anything…
“We can’t just sit here watching them be all lovey-dovey. C’mon, feed your unnie too.”
“W-What does that have to do with anything?!”
Amidst the confusion, as unnie explained,
I immediately protested with a pout.
Why do we have to compete when we could just let them be lovey-dovey?!
No—this isn’t even about competition!
She’s definitely doing this just to embarrass me!
“C’mere Da-jeong!”
“I won’t!”
“Then should unnie feed you? Like an airplane~?”
“I’m not a babyyy…!”
Despite my desperate resistance, I concluded that feeding her myself was less embarrassing than being subjected to “Here comes the airplane~,” so I reluctantly gave her a bite of apple.
When her mom saw this, she gasped and asked, “Do you two do this often?”—making me want to dig a hole and vanish.
Ugh…
***************
Though it was Chuseok, we spent the day like any other.
We ate lunch together at home, and in the evening, unnie dragged us out, insisting she’d treat us—leading to an unexpected dinner out.
I’d planned to pay, not wanting to impose further, but unnie bullied me into submission.
By the time we returned, it was already dark. We refreshed ourselves with the sweet persimmons that were given to us, then gathered in the living room to chat.
Most of the conversation revolved around me, but Chae-yoon’s mom was curious about the other members too, asking all sorts of questions. I answered as best I could.
“Thanks, Lulu. My daughter’s tight-lipped—no matter how much I ask, she never tells me about the others.”
“I told you. They’re VTubers—I can’t just share their real-life details.”
“You brat, you could at least share basics like Lulu does. You haven’t even shown me a single photo!”
Ah, so that’s why she seemed hesitant earlier.
I’d assumed she’d at least seen the unnie’s faces after a year since debut, but apparently not.
“So last Lunar New Year, you stayed at CEO Kang’s place?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Ah, the CEO really looks after you kids. I should visit and thank her someday.”
“Wha—Mom, why would you meet our CEO? This isn’t parent-teacher day…”
“Oh hush, it’s a parent’s instinct.”
Though her mom and Chae-yoon unnie bickered endlessly, I’d grown used to it. Part of me even understood why they clashed so much.
“Dear, it’s getting late—shouldn’t the kids sleep?”
“Huh? Already? Goodness, I lost track of time!”
“It’s past midnight? Yeah, it’s late.”
Time flew, and soon it was past 12 AM.
“We should set up the bedding. Da-jeong, where do you want to sleep? You can share my daughter’s room or sleep separately here.”
Chae-yoon’s mom hurriedly cleared the table and asked about arrangements.
Hmm… Where’s less trouble? Probably the living room?
“Da-jeong has to sleep with her unnie! Why hesitate?”
“Y-Yeah… Then, could you set it up in Chae-yoon unnie’s room?”
…Pointless deliberation, as expected.
After helping to prepare the bedding, I washed up quickly. By the time I finished, it was nearly 1 AM.
Normally, I’d scroll on my phone before bed, but I couldn’t laze around like at home. Just as I was about to lie down…
“Trying to sleep already?!”
“KYAAAAH?!”
THUD—
Unnie, who’d changed into loungewear after washing up, tackled me onto the futon.
“You must become unnie’s pillow! Come here!”
“H-Help me…!”
“Denied!”
Trapped as her human body pillow, I endured endless cuddles and cheek-pinching until exhaustion finally dragged us both to sleep.
