Ch. 90 I’m Not Cheating!
by AfuhfuihgsChapter 90: I’m Not Cheating!
Hanzo is one of the iconic characters that’s been around since the early days of Overwatch.
With its unique structure of using arrows as weapons, and the satisfying feeling of landing headshots that can one-shot most squishy characters, Hanzo is also famous for its flashy ultimate ability, which has spawned a lot of so-called “fanatics.”
As someone who used to main Hanzo back in the day, I had some confidence in my ability to land shots.
But of course, I wasn’t anywhere near the level of Grandmaster-tier players.
Today, I just wanted to warm up my hands with a few Quick Matches, but…
Ding-! Ding-!
[Eliminated ‘BalligoInternet’]
[Eliminated ‘AIMBOT’]
- Wow
- Back-to-back headshots
- Wait, all of them were headshots?
- Is this hacks?
…How did it even come to this?
【See through the eyes of the wolf.】
With Hanzo’s voice line, a blue arrow flies and sticks into the wall.
This is one of Hanzo’s skills, the Wallhack Arrow.
It’s a skill that lets you see enemies through walls within a certain range, and it’s a key part of Hanzo’s identity.
I stuck it to the right pillar, covering as much of the wall as possible, and predicted the enemy’s movement, firing another arrow.
Whoosh-! Ding!
[Eliminated ‘PotMaster’]
With the crisp sound of a headshot, another enemy falls to the ground.
That’s already three consecutive headshots, one-shotting enemies.
Why am I landing so many shots?
Of course, back when I played a lot, I was confident in my ability to land headshots but this is beyond excessive.
And I don’t know if it’s just me, but the enemies feel unusually clear to see.
[LenaOneTrick] – What’s up with this Hanzo?
[OppaIsAlwaysLikeThat] – Is Hanzo hacking?
[WantToBeDiamond] – Why would you hack in Quick Match?
[OppaIsAlwaysLikeThat] – There are so many hackers in Quick Match these days.
Thanks to my performance, we easily secured the second point.
My teammates, starting to feel something was off, began voicing their suspicions.
In Overwatch, the kill log appears in the top-right corner and it shows whether the kill was a headshot or what skill was used.
So, everyone noticed that all my kills so far were headshots and started to get suspicious.
I, I don’t know either.
Why am I landing so many shots?
Even if other shots were normal, the moment I sniped an enemy mid-air with a flick shot, even I was stunned.
Of course, it’s not an impossible play but the fact that I’m consistently pulling off plays at this level is surprising.
I, I’m sure I wasn’t this good back then?
Plus, I haven’t played this game in a long time.
So why does it feel like I’m landing more shots than before?
[‘DingDingDing’ has donated 2,000 won for snacks!]
- Lulu-chan, did you turn it on?
“T-turn what on…! I’m not cheating!”
While watching the enemies helplessly fall one by one, I frantically shook my head at the donation from a Cherry.
There’s no way I’m a hacker…!
What do you take me for?!
- Hmm…
- Even if Lulu-chan is good at games, this is a bit…
- This feels like a legendary god-tier moment.
- I don’t usually say this, but you’re playing way too well
I, I get it.
Even I can see why this situation is suspicious.
Of course, I’ve only shown less than 10 minutes of gameplay, and even though it’s Quick Match, where enemies might be playing casually, if a newbie playing Overwatch for the first time shows this kind of skill, anyone would be suspicious.
[Accuracy – 36%]
[Critical Hit Rate – 41%]
[Damage Dealt – 7122]
Just looking at the stats, something feels off.
The average accuracy for skilled Hanzo players is around 30%, and the critical hit rate is usually around 20% at most.
Generally, it stays between 14-18%.
Of course, those players have spent a lot of time playing, so their stats naturally average out over good and bad games.
But even considering that, the stats I’m showing in this one game are unusually high.
- 41% crit rate with Hanzo? Is this even human?
- ????????
- Lulu-chan, explain.
- Ex
- Plain
- Now
“Ah, no! I’m really innocent, I swear…!”
【Receive the dragon’s blade── Ugh!】
[Eliminated ‘GenjiPracticeAlt’]
“…Oops.”
At this point, even pretending to be bad wouldn’t be enough.
When an enemy Genji flew into the air to use their ultimate, I reflexively aimed for their head and shot them down.
By the way, Genji is notoriously hard to headshot in Overwatch.
With their double jump, wall-climbing and tricky movement, combined with their slim body, small head and dash skill, even skilled players find it difficult to consistently headshot a Genji using their ultimate in mid-air.
The problem is that I did it right when I was supposed to be explaining myself.
And of course, the chat exploded.
- You headshot that?
- No, seriously, you’re way too good
- Even for Quick Match, this is insane
- That was definitely hacks, no doubt.
- Forensic analysis incoming~
- Is this the rumored hack explanation stream?
Uuu….
I, I don’t know why I’m landing so many shots either.
Of course, since I haven’t played in higher tiers yet, I’ll have to see how it goes, but at least for this one game, I can see why people would be suspicious.
If I were a famous Hanzo main streamer, maybe it’d be different, but for a newbie playing for the first time today, this kind of performance is more than enough to raise eyebrows.
[‘PersonWhoLikesSpears’ has donated 5,000 won for snacks!]
- Lulu-chan, I can’t even defend this… Sorry… Thanks for the good times…
“Don’t graduate me yet!”
In the end, I had no choice but to continue playing Overwatch, not sure if I was warming up or hosting a hack explanation stream.
And with each play, the suspicious glances toward me only grew stronger.
*****
Kang Ha-neul was busy figuring out the team composition for the upcoming Overwatch tournament.
Even though Blue LUV was participating just for fun, since they were joining, they might as well aim for the win.
So, she was discussing with Chae-yoon, the most knowledgeable about Overwatch in the group over Discord about which positions to assign to each member.
With two members new to Overwatch and one who’s practically a beginner, it was quite a headache.
“First, I think it’s best to give Erin unnie the main healer role. It requires the least mechanical skill…”
“Yeah, that makes sense. Since she hasn’t played many games, it’ll be hard for her to adapt otherwise.”
- Erin is perfect for heal bot
- Just pick Mercy and stick to healing
- Mercy is meta right now, so it’s good.
Starting with the two newbies, they decided to assign Mercy, one of the easiest and currently high-performing characters in Overwatch, to Jia, who had the least FPS experience.
Mercy is a character that can heal, buff allies’ attack power, and even resurrect them.
Mercy doesn’t require precise aim, and her survival mechanics aren’t too difficult, making her a good choice for beginners to contribute effectively.
“And what should we do with Lulu? Should we assign her as the main tank?”
“While the aim difficulty for main tanks is generally low, they need to have a good understanding of the game flow… Wouldn’t it be too much for Lulu-chan, who’s a newbie?”
“That’s true. Hmm…”
Next, they pondered over Da-jeong’s position, who was also a newbie, but the two of them struggled to find a suitable role for her.
As Chae-yoon mentioned, main tanks generally don’t require high aim precision.
However, they need to read the game flow well, and if the tank dies, the team often collapses, making it a risky position to assign carelessly.
What about assigning her as a DPS?
DPS is undeniably the most impactful role in Overwatch.
Hitscan-based main DPS characters require high aim precision, while projectile and area control based sub-DPS characters require a good understanding of the game.
The only remaining option is sub-healer, but even that role isn’t entirely aim-free, leaving them in a dilemma.
Still, since Da-jeong isn’t bad at games, it might be better to assign her a role and have her practice.
Especially since Overwatch has a wide variety of characters, if she finds one that suits her, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to let her focus on it.
[‘CuckooVisitor’ has donated 1,000 won.]
- Director Kang, Lulu-chan is being accused of hacking while playing Overwatch. You should check her stream.
“Huh? What’s this about? Who’s being accused of what?”
- Hacking accusations?
- ? Lulu-chan?
- What kind of bizarre bait is this?
- I just came from her stream, and she’s really being accused of hacking.
- She’s been dominating Quick Matches earlier.
Since it seemed impossible to decide right away, they agreed to observe the situation and discuss it later.
Just as Kang Ha-neul was about to leave, a donation suddenly came in.
She widened her eyes, wondering if she had heard correctly.
Da-jeong is being accused of hacking?
While it’s true that Da-jeong is quite good at games compared to most VTubers, is it really possible for her to be accused of hacking in a game she’s playing for the first time today?
It’s probably just a troll donation, or viewers overreacting because she’s performing better than expected for a newbie.
With that thought, Kang Ha-neul immediately entered Da-jeong’s stream.
『I, I’m really not hacking…! This is my main account, I swear! Please believe me…!』
- Who’s gonna believe that
- Using a burner account for anonymity and now hacking too
- Suspicion posts are already archived on War Gallery, and you’re still denying it
- Where did these trolls come from? Just leave.
- Stop disrupting the stream and get lost, idiots.
- It’s disgusting how her fans are defending her
“What the hell is this?”
The first thing Kang Ha-neul heard was Da-jeong’s voice, filled with frustration as she tried to explain herself.
Next, she saw unfamiliar usernames in the chat, viewers who had never been in Da-jeong’s stream before, arguing with what seemed to be Da-jeong’s regular fans.
Judging by the conversation, it seemed like Da-jeong had been targeted by some community and they had banded together to swarm her stream and attack her.
All without any evidence or certainty, just targeting an innocent girl.
“…These damn bastards.”
The sight alone was enough to make Kang Ha-neul’s blood boil.
Unable to hold back her frustration, she grabbed her mic and let out a string of curses.
