Ch. 68 MtF – Chapter 68

    Chapter 68

    Read on‌ ‌K‍at‌R‌e‌ad‌i‍ng‌Caf‍e‌

    **V-Spe Gamers! (6)**

After that… well, I ended up being given a role suited for someone like me, where surprises could be a bit dangerous.

They said they were planning to let me try this role once I got more used to the game, but honestly, as long as I was having fun, I didn’t mind either way.

“Ah, there’s something behind Nagisa-san. I think it might be an item…”

[Really? I hope it’s something valuable.]

“Toya, if you keep going forward, you should turn right when the hallway opens up.”

    [Got it~]

    “Inari-san—”

    [Nacchaaaaan!!! Save meeeee!!!]

    “…Good luck.”

    – wwww

    – Isn’t that too harsh on Inari? wwww

    – But she ran straight into the webs after Nacchan warned her, so… 草

    – It’s not Nacchan’s fault if the dumb fox does what dumb foxes do.

    – Honestly, at this point Inari should just lure all the monsters away herself ww

Listening to my teammates’ voices over the walkie-talkie was kind of fun.

    Especially Inari-san.

She didn’t listen to a single thing I said and just kept screaming at me to save her—it was kind of hilarious.

Looking at it that way, she really is made for streaming.

Not that I’m really in a position to judge anyone.

“Nagisa-san, something’s chasing you. You should probably head out now.”

    [Heading out right away.]

“If you just keep going straight from there, the exit will be right ahead.”

    [Natsu, me too!]

“Toya, turn right there—no, you missed it—yes, there!”

    [Nacchan, me toooo!!!]

“Inari-san… um… you’re going in the _exact_ opposite direction of the exit…”

I was genuinely impressed that Inari-san was still alive, but seeing her headed completely the wrong way, I offered a small prayer for her soul.

For some reason, it felt like monsters were especially drawn to her.

Anyway, given the situation… I had to make a sacrifice.

    And that sacrifice was Inari-san.

Going the wrong way basically meant there was no hope for survival.

    “Natsu, I’m back!”

    “Good job, Toya.”

“I totally hit the jackpot! I got four cubes!”

    – Toya x Natsu is too wholesome

    – It’s like a wife greeting her husband after a long day… 草

    – It’s basically love ww

    – With four cubes, that’s enough to clear one day’s quota, right?

    – Let’s just call the first round a warm-up ww

Toya was the first one to return to the ship.

Just her, with a full inventory, and we’d already cleared the entire first week’s quota.

“You know, it’s _way_ easier to get back with someone guiding you.”

“Well… maybe you’re just good with directions. Inari-san is still like _that_ even though I’ve been giving her directions.”

On screen, Inari was still being chased—by _multiple_ monsters now.

A green dot trailed by several red ones.

At this point, it felt like she had some kind of monster-attracting pheromone or something.

Still, my main concern right now was Nagisa-san…

“Nagisa-san, there’s a monster ahead—you should loop around. Left turn, for now.”

    [Got it, Natsu.]

[Nacchan? How do I get to the exit from here? There’s too much noise behind me and it’s scary!!]

“…I think you’ll need to go back the way you came.”

[No way! That’s impossible! I passed the point of no return a long time ago!]

She sounded so desperate it was almost tragic, but… there wasn’t much I could do.

    Rest in peace, Inari-san.

    “I’m back.”

    “Welcome back, Nagisa-san!”

    “Welcome home, Nagisa~”

After a bit more navigation help, Nagisa-san safely made it back to the ship.

She’d died right away the first time, so it was a relief to see her make it back this round.

    Now then… I guess everyone’s accounted for?

    “Shall we close the hatch?”

    “Yeah.”

    “Sure.”

[Wait!!! You’re just going to leave me behind?! Wait for meeeeee!!!]

    – wwww

    – Inari’s still alive?! wwwww

    – How is she even still alive?! 草

    – Looks like she made it out through the emergency exit lol

    – What luck, escaping through the emergency exit ww

    – Emergency exits are usually on the opposite side of the entrance, so I guess it makes sense wwww

    – Is Inari actually the best gamer out of all of them? 草

Startled by the sudden radio transmission, I looked at the screen.

Somehow, Inari had managed to escape the building, screaming like her life depended on it.

Seeing the green dot on the minimap, I quickly reopened the hatch.

The sun was going down, but it wasn’t _fully_ dark yet.

Maybe because she’d escaped through the emergency exit—which was on the opposite side of the building—she was a bit far from the ship, but if she hurried, she should make it.

“Inari-san, can you make it back to the ship?”

[I-I’m not sure! But I’ll do my best! I’ve made it this far without your help, Nacchan, so I think I’ll be okay!]

“…I _did_ say you were going in the exact opposite direction.”

[Still! You completely ignored me halfway through!]

“If you keep complaining, we’re launching.”

[W-Wait! I’ve got over 100 bucks worth of stuff here, okay?! That’s like a national budget! A _national_ budget!!]

    There’s no way 100 bucks is a national budget…

Still, since it would help with our in-game finances, I decided to wait a little longer.

No way she’d _actually_ fail to make it to the ship… right?

Watching the green blip on the minimap, I shook my head.

There’s no way she’d get lost with the ship right there—

“…Inari-san, you’re going in the _opposite_ direction again.”

[Whoops, maybe I lost my sense of direction after wandering for so long?]

“You need to go right, not left.”

    […]

    – She’s _so_ bad with directions wwwww

    – Every time, I’m amazed at how hopeless she is at navigation…

    – Didn’t she leave an hour early for the last off-collab?

    – Was that because she was afraid she’d get lost?! 草

    – You just have to take a taxi and give them the address…

    – Like a dumb fox would know that ww

    – 草

    – 草

I never imagined I’d see a real-life person this bad with directions, but Inari-san was the real deal.

How can someone be _this_ bad?

Seriously though, how did she even find my house back then?

Anyway, even after escaping the building, she was still getting lost—so I started guiding her back toward the ship.

“Inari-san, go _right_ from there, not left.”

“But I’m heading toward the ship, and now I have to turn around? That’s why I’m not seeing it!”

“Inari-san? Are you even listening? Inari-san?”

[No, listen! That’s not the problem! There’s something _huge_ here—_really_ huge!!!]

    Something huge… could it be…?

Wondering why she wasn’t returning even though she was so close, I stepped out of the ship to check.

    And just outside—I saw it.

The giant from the previous round, patrolling near the ship.

“…Inari-san, should we just take off now?”

[No way! I made it this far, and now you’re going to leave me right outside the ship?! Wait, it saw me! IT SAW ME!!!]

    – wwww

    – She’s toast.

    – Screaming in front of the giant is basically begging to be eaten ww

    – Honestly I’m just amazed she survived this long…

    – Time to launch, Nacchan? 草

I quietly closed the hatch, watching the giant lumber toward Inari-san.

Sorry, but this is the end.

I pressed the launch button as the green dot disappeared from the minimap.

    May you rest in peace.

    R.I.P…

“Man, that was so much fun today! Although I _am_ a little disappointed Nacchan abandoned me and left. Actually, a _lot_ disappointed! Hmph!”

“…I think getting mad over a game is kinda lame.”

    “I’m not mad!”

    “You’re totally mad.”

We only ended the stream after playing for about two more hours.

Inari-san made a pouty face like she was jokingly sulking, while Toya stretched with a satisfied sigh.

Nagisa-san looked like she’d had fun too, with a smile on her face.

“Let’s keep hanging out like this more often, okay?”

    “I’m in.”

    “Wish we’d done this sooner.”

“What about you, Nacchan? You okay?”

    “Of course. Totally fine.”

Playing solo was fun too, but playing with friends like this had a different kind of charm.

Seeing the three of them smiling back at me, I made a promise to myself to do this again.

Alright, guess it’s time to head home.

I was about to check if I’d left anything behind and get up to leave when—

    “Ah, Yeoreum.”

    “Hm?”

“I’m just gonna stop by and talk to the CEO real quick. That okay?”

    “Yeah, go ahead.”

    I nodded at Toya’s request.

It wasn’t like waiting was hard—I just had to sit in a chair and chill.

…Though being picked up and _placed_ in the chair by Toya was a little embarrassing.

    Fables
