Chapter 12: The Hunter and The Prey (1)
by AfuhfuihgsMitae and Penya doubted their hearing.
The man who was surrounded was asking them to surrender.
Relying on just two people—or at most, including the corpse monster, three—to face an armed force of over 300?
It was unclear whether this was just bravado before death or a genuine warning.
From Penya’s perspective, it was baseless nonsense.
“Capture them alive. I believe it’s worth it.”
However, Mitae had a completely different thought from Penya.
“…Could his team be ambushed nearby?”
If that were the case, his confidence made sense.
Besides, hadn’t they been waiting for the two of them in the first place?
“Under the command of Chief Inspector Mitae! All officers, scatter and search the surroundings!”
“What did you just say?”
Amidst the rapidly scattering officers, Penya glared at Mitae in disbelief.
“Even if there’s an ambush, wouldn’t killing those two first solve everything?”
Mitae didn’t respond to Penya’s words.
Annoyed, Penya shook his head.
“Anzak!”
At Penya’s command, Anzak raised one arm high. In response, Penya’s subordinates aimed their crossbows simultaneously.
As soon as Anzak lowered his arm, over a hundred arrows were unleashed.
However, not a single arrow hit the Demon King, Lerazie, or the corpse monster.
Within a two-meter radius around the Demon King, no arrow could penetrate.
Instead, every arrow reversed its trajectory.
At the Demon King’s gesture, the arrows all flew back to where they had come from.
Screams filled the forest.
“What is this…”
Neither Anzak, Mitae, nor Penya was spared.
No one could understand what the boy had just done—
Or rather, they understood, but no one could accept the reality of it.
The volley of over a hundred arrows had returned in full force.
The formation of the surrounded troops collapsed instantly under what could only be described as the firepower of an army.
And it all came from one person.
“Lerazie, I need the biggest flame you can summon.”
“Yes!”
Lerazie clasped her hands together, aiming at the forest.
She deliberately overturned the giant pitcher of magic within her.
Every ounce of mana poured to the tips of her hands.
Meanwhile, the Demon King cast a detection spell, searching for Lerazie’s friends.
“They’re in the center. Lerazie, aim to the right.”
“Yes!”
As soon as she was ready, flames erupted from Lerazie’s hands.
A colossal firestorm surged through the forest with unstoppable momentum.
Though its slow casting speed and visible trajectory allowed many to evade, the sheer size of the flames surpassed anything ordinary magicians could produce.
Watching the overwhelming power, Mitae muttered in a daze,
“…That’s the magician who escaped a few days ago? Did the Demon King teach her that?”
“Mitae! Where are you, Mitae? This isn’t what you said! What are those monsters?!”
Penya shouted furiously, as though ready to kill Mitae, but that did nothing to stop the attack.
“Next is wind.”
“Yes! Wind!”
At the Demon King’s command, Lerazie extended her hands, claws bared, and clawed at the air.
Like raking a wall, her actions unleashed a massive gale that swept through the forest.
The resulting wind fed the flames, igniting a massive wildfire throughout the area.
Despite the chaos, the iron cage holding the children remained completely safe, shielded by the Demon King’s protective barrier.
The children, instead of being frightened, watched Lerazie’s magical display with wonder.
“Lerazie is using magic.”
“Then the person beside her must be…”
“The Demon King…?”
“It’s the Demon King!”
“It’s really him!”
The assault didn’t stop there.
With the forest ahead cleared, the Demon King turned his attention to the enemies moving to flank from the sides and rear.
The first casualties rose again as zombies, reanimated by the Demon King’s necromancy.
Burned by flames or pierced by arrows, they were still capable of tearing into their former comrades.
Amid this merciless onslaught, individuals couldn’t even attempt a counterattack.
The fierce wind shredded trees into fragments and sent them tumbling.
