Chapter 47: [EDen] Do you like Rin-sama who is strong even though her special attack is not a ranged attack but a double attack? [Yuki/Rin/Lunaverse] (3)
by Afuhfuihgs[First Floor. The Hood]
After defeating Wrath, one of the Seven Deadly Sins, we immediately returned to the Resistance headquarters.
Then, as I reported to the commander to clear the quest, the story scene immediately resumed.
[Erik: What? Wrath of the Seven Deadly Sins?]
[Erik: …Please wait a moment. I’ll dispatch an investigation team.]
After some more time passed and the investigation team returned, Erik was finally able to acknowledge the facts we had reported.
[Erik: My apologies. It was too absurd a story.]
[Erik: Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you get your quest reward.]
[Me: It’s fine.]
[Me: More importantly, have there been any recent attacks on security robots?]
[Erik: Security robots? How do you know about that…]
Erik’s eyes widened in surprise.
But he soon put on a serious expression and spoke in a slightly heavier voice.
[Erik: …There was. I don’t know who did it, though.]
[Erik: The wreckage of security robots was discovered by members on patrol.]
[Erik: But how do you know about that?]
[Me: Because I also saw the destroyed security robots.]
[Me: By the way, do you happen to know anything about a white ribbon… no. About a girl who defeated the security robots?]
Erik shook his head at my question.
[Erik: I don’t.]
[Erik: I only heard a rumor that she went up to the 2nd floor, Neo City.]
[Me: A rumor?]
[Erik: The rumor spreading in the Hood.]
[Erik: A rumor that a black-haired girl, half of whose body is mechanical, went up to the next level.]
[Erik: It’s been the talk of the Hood lately, haven’t you even been to a tavern or something?]
[Me: Thanks to the quest you gave me.]
[Erik: Haha, I suppose so.]
Erik let out a hearty laugh and took a cigar from a box on his desk, putting it in his mouth.
Just as he was about to light the cigar, at that moment.
[Patrol Member: Commander! We have a big problem!]
[Patrol Member: The Neo City base is under attack!]
[Erik: …What? The Neo City base?]
“Yabe, is the Resistance getting caught like this? As expected of reactionaries, they’re merciless.”
“Reactionaries, Yuki-gong…”
“Why? In the Demonic Cult, don’t they feed mint chocolate to traitors?”
“We don’t. And don’t slander mint chocolate.”
“Eeeh? Rin, don’t tell me you’re in the Mint-Choco-dan?” (TL Note: -dan means group/faction)
-Kekeke
-Slan?der
-Mint chocolate is torture though.
-Fr keke
-Rin-sama… you were a mint-choco supporter?
“…Be quiet and watch the rest of the story scene.”
Returning to the story scene, Erik frowned and slammed his fist on the desk.
Thump!
[Erik: D*mn it, this wasn’t the time to sit around chatting idly.]
[Erik: Follow me, rookie!]
[Erik: We’re going up to Neo City!]
Then, as Erik and I hurriedly rushed out of the room, the screen faded to black.
When the screen brightened again, it showed a modern city illuminated by neon-like lights, and a white text appeared over the cyberpunk-esque scenery.
[Second Floor. Neo City]
“Oh, 2nd floor!”
“The 2nd floor is Neo City, the floor where ordinary citizens live. The neon lights aren’t that bright, so the slightly dark city is impressive. Besides, since the sun doesn’t shine inside the tower, it’s always dark, making it a good place for dark things to happen, just like the Hood.”
-Thank you, Speedwagon!
-Explanation-freak Rin-sama appears!
-Finally, the main event?
-Wakuwaku! (TL Note: Japanese onomatopoeia for excitement)
As expected of a setting enthusiast who would read the setting book, the explanation came out naturally.
Seeing Rin speak excitedly, I somehow started to feel a sense of anticipation as well.
“Middle class? In Korean terms, would that be around Gyeonggi Province…?”
“You just have to make such a comparison… Well, it’s not wrong, though.”
-Understood immediately.
-The analogy kekeke
-Hell Joseon style analogy.
[BoboKkokBo has donated 10,000 won!]
-Then where is the Hood? Incheon? Ansan? Sinan? (TL Note: These are areas in Korea, Sinan is infamous for certain incidents.)
“…I’ll make no comment on that part.”
“Good thinking. There’s no need to unnecessarily reveal regional sentiments on stream.”
After finishing our brief chat, we turned our attention back to the game screen.
A ruined vacant lot nestled in a dark space between buildings.
Traces of what seemed to have been a building were shattered into pieces and scattered everywhere.
And as Erik and I, along with dozens of Resistance members, entered the alley,
the voice of an old man began to be heard from afar.
[???: Hey!!]
[Member 1: Huh? Where’s that voice coming from…]
[???: Over here!!]
An old man with white hair, trapped under the debris.
Wearing a broken monocle, he was shabbily dressed, looking like a vagrant one might see on the streets of the Hood.
[Erik: And you are?]
[Greed: Greed! The sole surviving member of the Resistance!!]
[Me: What happened?]
[Greed: The Seven Deadly Sins, it was them again… greed appeared and swept through the base.]
The old man sighed, looking around at the collapsed debris.
Erik then asked again in a tone of disbelief.
[Erik: Greed? Did Greed really appear?]
[Greed: Yes.]
[Greed: That b*stard swung its giant mechanical arm and collapsed the base.]
[Greed: I barely survived by hiding under the debris.]
[Erik: No, how can so many of the Seven Deadly Sins appear in such a short period?]
[Erik: Wrath appeared in the junkyard… This doesn’t feel right.]
[Greed: Yes. It seems like the Seven Deadly Sins are finally starting to move.]
“The Seven Deadly Sins are moving… Does that mean something like the Four Heavenly Kings are making their move?”
“It’s probably a similar feeling. In this world, the Seven Deadly Sins are Deus Ex Machina’s direct subordinates.”
“Aha.”
[Resistgagagak has donated 3,000 won!]
-Kekeke…. That one is the weakest among our Four Heavenly Kings…
-Kekekekeke
-Weakest one joke kekeke
-Gigagiga hung hung… Gagagagak!!!
-Ah, ‘that one’ died?
-Weakest one kekeke
-Is Chain Scythe Zeni coming???
The old man trapped under the debris sighed once more and continued.
[Greed: By the way, are you guys from the Resistance on the lower floor?]
[Erik: That’s right. We’re the personnel active on the 0th and 1st floors.]
[Greed: Good timing, when things are tough.]
[Greed: It seems we’ll need your help.]
[Erik: Help…?]
[Greed: We need to rebuild the base, don’t we?]
[Greed: There are still members who haven’t returned from their mission. We need to create a place for them to return to.]
[Greed: And we can’t give up on the revolution in Neo City like this.]
[Erik: Indeed. That makes sense.]
[Erik: So, what can we do to help?]
At Erik’s question, Greed pointed his finger at the center of the debris.
A structure that looked like an altar for placing something.
And in its center, there was a square hole, just big enough for a cube to fit.
[Greed: The Tesseract owned by the Resistance. One of them was stolen.]
[Erik: …That’s bad news indeed.]
[Erik: The Tesseract is an irreplaceable power source, so an ordinary core wouldn’t be able to maintain the base…]
“Tesseract? What’s that?”
“I knew you’d ask. A Tesseract is the main energy source used in this world, processed from stabilizing antimatter into a usable form. It can produce high and stable output, and one Tesseract can generate enough energy for a city to use for about 10 years. And also……”
For a moment, my mind went blank from the flood of information.
But barely regaining my senses, I killed time by reading the chat that came up until Rin finished speaking.
-Zenzen wakannai. (I don’t understand at all.)
-Teacher, the pace is too fast.
-Rin, you otaku…
-So you’re saying it’s Pythagoras, right?
-Kekekekeke
-This is!! The dignity of a mecha-f*cker!!
-Look at Yuki, all dazed because she doesn’t understand kekekeke
[NotAGradStudent has donated 30,000 won!]
-But Rin-chan… if you explain it that difficultly, she won’t understand anything…
“Hey you! Don’t ignore Rin-chan!”
“Did you really understand?”
“Ah, of course! I understood perfectly!”
“…I don’t think you understood…”
“So it’s Pythagoras, right?”
“——”
-Kekeke
-I knew it kekeke
-This guy is a total ponkotsu lol
-Kekeke
-That’s so Yuki-chan.
-???: Yuki-chan style~
(Ponkotsu: Clumsy, airhead, idiot.)
‘Should I just not have asked?’
‘I ended up learning a lot of information I didn’t particularly want to know.’
I let Rin’s explanation about the Pythagorean theorem go in one ear and out the other, and started focusing on the story scene again.
[Greed: Fortunately, there’s a place nearby where we’re storing a Tesseract that can be used immediately.]
[Greed: Deep within the underground sewers.]
[Greed: The coordinates… should be (32.814, 72.008) in sector B3.]
Greed said so and took out a small ball from his pocket.
As soon as he took it out, it emitted a blue light, and a ball floated up, emitting a round, ring-shaped light.
[Greed: Here, I’ll give you a guide drone.]
[Greed: So go there and bring back the spare Tesseract.]
[Erik: Rookie, you take this job.]
[Erik: I’ll stay here with the members and help rebuild the base.]
[Greed: Are you sure it’s okay? Sending that kid alone.]
[Erik: It’s fine. He’s a rookie whose skills can be trusted.]
[Greed: Well then… that’s a relief.]
[Greed: I’m counting on you. Please bring back the Tesseract.]
[Main Quest – Retrieve the Tesseract]
[Content: The Neo City base was completely destroyed by the Seven Deadly Sins. To rebuild it, the ‘Tesseract,’ the main source of energy, is needed. Go to the coordinates Greed told you, retrieve the Tesseract, and transport it to the Neo City base.]
A new quest appeared on the screen.
It was the moment the next task for me and Rin was decided.
(TL note: So, the old Resistance member named Greed is telling them that the powerful enemy known as Greed (the Sin) is the one responsible for the destruction of the Neo City base. It’s a case of two different characters/entities coincidentally sharing the same name, which can definitely cause a double-take! It is not a translation error as it has been double checked, so let’s see where the story goes)
