Chapter 16: [Shadow Mansion] A suspicious mansion investigation team! Yuki and Rin’s final exploration to uncover the truth!! [Yuki / Rin / Lunaverse] (3)
by AfuhfuihgsA body of black sludge dripped thickly to the floor.
From within its brow, an eerie white glow leaked from its eyes.
–Grrraaaaaaaa…
The shadow let out a guttural growl no human could ever make.
Its slime-drenched arm stretched toward me—slowly, ominously.
Squelch.
It started moving its legs.
With each step, thick black ooze soaked into the carpet.
Squelch, squelch.
The shadow picked up speed.
The gap between it and me closed at a terrifying pace.
Then, just as its outstretched hand reached for my character—
“KYAAAAAAAHHHH—!!!!!!!”
I screamed at the top of my lungs and turned to run at full speed.
Thankfully, the controls were similar to other games. Pressing Ctrl made me sprint faster.
I charged down the endless hallway and quickly caught up with Rin, who had taken off way ahead of me.
“Y-You crazy witch!!! How could you leave me behind like that?!”
“But… it was obviously a monster. Wouldn’t it be weirder not to run?”
“GYAAAAAAH!!! You could’ve at least warned me before taking off!!!”
–LOL
–That jump scare tho—LMAO
–AHAHAHAHAHA
–Almost gave me a heart attack;;;
–She really ditched her LOL
Tears welled up in my eyes as I ran like my life depended on it.
I couldn’t even think about turning around.
What if it caught me and I got game-over?
Even just looking at that thing once had already fried my sanity—if I saw its face again, I might actually pass out mid-stream.
–LOLOLOL
–Why’d they cut the lights tho, that’s messed up
–Okay I saw that one coming
–Yeah same, it was kinda predictable
–But classic horror game stuff still hits
“I know, right? Why are horror games always this cliché?”
“Wait—how do you have time to read chat right now?!”
I’d been too busy running to check the chat for a while.
But somehow Rin was calmly reading and responding like it was nothing…
It kind of made me feel like I was losing as a senior streamer.
“Of course I can. It’s already stopped chasing us.”
“…Huh?”
Snapping out of my panic, I looked around.
The hallway was bright again.
When I turned around, the shadowy creature chasing us was gone.
“What, that’s it?”
“Yes.”
“I seriously thought it was still after us…”
Well, the shadow monster wasn’t exactly fast.
If your character ran at full sprint, you could totally outrun it.
Otherwise, I would’ve died the moment it reached out earlier.
“Ha… haha…”
I stopped and let out an awkward laugh.
Even while sitting down, my legs felt like jelly.
My once-soft cotton tee was soaked in cold sweat.
“…I’m gonna need a shower after this.”
“Did you perhaps… wet yourself?”
“N-No, I did not! Okay?! No matter how scared I get, I would never pee myself on stream!!”
(SFX: Ah, I said it’s not that!!)
–LOL
–Pee alert
–She’s a bedwetter!
–Scaredy-cat
–HAHAHAHAHA
–She totally peed
“…All of you shut up. I’m sulking now.”
I said that, but honestly, I might’ve almost peed a little.
…No, maybe I actually did.
It was hard to tell with all the sweat.
“Cheer up. I’ll believe you didn’t.”
“I don’t need you to believe me because I didn’t pee!!”
–LOL
–We believe you~
–AHAHA
–Was it really that scary?
–Couldn’t be that bad…
“Still… I can’t help being scared…”
It was terrifying.
I had no idea my first horror game would be this scary.
If I’d known, I would’ve just said no to the collab.
Regret hit me like a truck.
“I wasn’t really scared, though.”
“That’s just you!”
“Seems more like Yuki, you’re just kind of a wimp.”
“I am not! I’m totally normal! It’s normal to be scared!!!”
–LOLOL
–Yuki-sama, that’s embarrassing
–So cute
–‘Normal’ she says
–Honestly Rin being this chill is kinda sus
–She might be the real monster lol
But I didn’t want to seem like a total coward, so I bit my tongue and let out a sharp cough.
“Ahem. Let’s just keep going.”
“There’s something we should discuss first…”
“What?”
“Didn’t the rules specifically say not to run in the halls?”
“…Huh?”
Oh, right.
There was a rule after the one about staying quiet that said no running.
“Hang on… Rule number three was…”
[3. For the same reason, running in the halls is prohibited. It bothers other guests… and might wake the dog.]
I quickly pulled out the guide from my inventory.
As I reread it, my face turned pale.
“It did say something about a dog…”
“…Yeah.”
“And… isn’t that something down the hallway?”
Following Rin’s gaze, I turned to look.
Something white loomed in the distance, half-submerged in shadow.
Its skin was mangled and burned down to leathery flesh, and the area around its eyes sagged like melted rubber.
–What the hell is that?
–Oh nooooo
–JESUS
–Creepy AF…
“Ah… aah… auh…”
Words failed me. Only terror came out.
Then, the white thing in the distance started running toward us.
–SKREEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
“KYAAAAAAAHHHHH—!!!!!!”
I screamed and ran like hell.
“Wait for me!!”
“No no no no no!! Noooooo!!”
“Isn’t this a co-op game? You’re supposed to help me!”
“KYAAAAAAAHHH!!”
I didn’t have time to think.
Tears streaming down my face, I bolted for the stairs.
Only after a long sprint did I finally catch my breath.
“Huff… huff…”
I turned around.
Unlike before, the hallway was empty.
No screeches. No footsteps.
Looked like the freaky mutt was gone.
“Yuki… are you okay?”
“Sniff… I-I’m fine…”
“Maybe take a break? You don’t look so good…”
“I-I’m totally fine, okay?! hic I’m not scared at all!!”
–Yeah no, she’s definitely scared
–Got the hiccups on stream
–Clipped it, thanks^^7
–Yuki’s going viral tonight
–Cutest scared streamer ever
Why do these people always say I’m cute when I’m terrified?
You filthy, twisted Yukidan…
Your tastes are absolutely depraved.
“Anyway, looks like we’re gonna need something to deal with that dog…”
“Let’s head back down to the second floor. We didn’t get a good look earlier.”
–Back to 2F?
–Yeah they skipped it earlier
–Gotta loot
–Loot run GO
–Reverse assault!!
We were bound to find something useful on 2F.
Based on the trailer, there were definitely combat scenes, so we had to be able to get weapons.
If there’s anything that could help us fight that mutant mutt, it’d make this way less scary.
Time to loot.
“Shall we go?”
“Yes.”
Rin and I descended back down to the second floor.
Luckily, we found some solid gear on the second floor.
Most of the rooms were locked, but a few were open.
And since Shadow Mansion had a medieval-European aesthetic, the rooms were lined with decoratively displayed weapons.
[Bear Trap x1]
[Hand Axe x1]
[Lighter x1]
[Oil Can x2]
“This should be enough, right?”
“Hold on. Let me check one more room.”
–She’s scared www
–LOL
–Look at her looting like crazy
–She’s totally scared
–Coward confirmed lol
Okay yeah, I spent a little too long farming items.
Ten whole minutes.
Even the viewers were starting to get bored.
But I couldn’t help it—thinking about facing that monster mutt without enough gear…
No thanks.
I am not peeing myself on stream again.
“This is seriously the last room.”
“You’ve said that three times already.”
“Yeah, but this time I mean it!”
I shrugged it off and opened the door marked 211.
Inside, something caught my eye.
I grabbed it off the wall with a triumphant smile.
[Double-Barrel Shotgun x1]
“A shotgun…?”
–Ooooh
–Cue epic rock music
–Niceee
–They got a gun?!
–Wait, is this a joke setup?
–LMAO
“W-What?! No way! They wouldn’t give it to us and then take it away, right?!”
Still, I got nervous—like I’d seen this exact gag on NewTube.
What if I pulled the trigger and a cartoon “POW!” flag popped out?
[12 Gauge Shells x4]
But there were shells on the nearby table.
No way it’s fake and they give us ammo.
–That’s one thick gun
–This gun is TOO lewd. Censor it
–“That’s too big, it won’t fit~♡” (talking about bullets, obviously)
–Shotgun supremacy lol
–Wuxia pervs detected
“Aww~? Did everyone get surprised by Yuki-chan’s long, thick one~?”
“Please, just stop talking.”
“Hehe~ Don’t stare at it so hard~ You’re embarrassing me~”
–Yikes
–Ma’am this is a Wendy’s
–LOL
–She’s lost it
–HELP
“A-Anyway! Let’s go to the third floor already. It’s getting late.”
“Yeah. We’ve got the gun now, so we should be good.”
We left Room 211 and headed back to the third floor.
Climbing the stairs, the lighting dimmed again.
The small hallway lanterns began to flicker out.
[Oil Can]
But this time, we were ready.
With oil to refill the lamp, we wouldn’t be in the dark for long.
[■■■■■■■■□□]
We refilled it and waited.
Soon, the hallway lights came back on.
–Nice
–No shadow this time?
–Guess light keeps it away
–So that’s how you beat it
“Looks that way. We had oil this time, so…”
“Good. I really didn’t want to see that freaky shadow monster again.”
The monster must’ve been tied to darkness.
As long as we had oil, we could keep the lamps lit and avoid being swallowed by shadows.
If only I’d known earlier, I would’ve explored more instead of rushing up.
Well, too late now.
“Yuki.”
“What?”
“Isn’t that the dog down there?”
“Yeah, looks like it…”
–Oh crap
–It’s back
–The dog returns
–Here comes the scream lol
–??? KYAAA!!!
At the end of the hall was that white thing again.
It seemed to be asleep, probably because we hadn’t triggered it by running yet.
“Rin. Set the trap.”
“The trap? You mean that weird denture-looking thing?”
“Yeah. Go ahead and set it on the floor ahead.”
“Understood.”
Rin walked forward and set the bear trap.
The dog flinched at the metallic click—it was close enough to hear it.
Rin rushed back to me once she finished setting it.
“Trap is set.”
“Cool. Now get your axe ready.”
“…If only we had a sword.”
“We don’t have time to complain!! That thing will charge us any second now!! If we screw this up, we’ll get mauled without even fighting back!!”
–Mauled…?
–That phrasing…
–Yuki’s being suggestive again
–Why is this horny???
–Brooo…
Ignoring the chat, I pulled out my double-barrel shotgun.
Then I loaded in the shells we’d found earlier.
Clack!!
–SKREEEEEEEE!!!
The loud reloading must’ve woken the mutt—it screamed.
Drool dripping from its deformed face, it turned and charged.
CHOMP—!!
Right then, the bear trap triggered.
The spiked jaws clamped shut on one leg, crushing it completely.
–SKREEEEAAAAAARRRRGHHH!!!
But even with three legs, it came at us full speed.
Losing a leg only made it madder.
The monster foamed at the mouth and went into a frenzy.
“W-Watch out!!”
Rin stepped in front of me, axe raised.
She probably thought I’d freeze up.
But I didn’t need her help.
Not with my trusty partner—
Double-Barrel Shotgun-kun.
“This is Muggle Magic, you freakin’ mutt—!!!”
BLAM. BLAM—!!!
The shotgun thundered twice.
Red-hot buckshot blasted forward—
—and pierced the monster mutt’s flesh.
And also…
“KYAAGH!!”
…Rin, standing right beside it.
“…Oops.”
–Uh…
–Yikes
–She just shot her teammate?!
–LMAO
–RIP Rin
–Betrayed by her own party
The chat erupted into laughter.
But Rin and I were not laughing.
“U-Ugh?!”
“H-Help… my HP’s already half…”
“W-Wait! I’ll fix it! The monster’s still—”
While I panicked, the monster lunged at Rin.
Mouth wide open, it clamped down on her as she lay on the floor.
The sound of flesh ripping and bones crunching echoed across the hallway, painting the floor red.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I turned and ran—
but it was too late.
The monster was already too close.
“A-Aaaah…”
–SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
“KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH—!!!”
And just like that—
we got absolutely wrecked by the dog.
After that, I broke down crying on stream.
And that was how our horror collab came to an end.
