Chapter 86: The Art of Making Friends

The next morning, I took a shower with Delphine.

This time, I neither closed my eyes nor avoided her gaze.

Like Jinhyang had said, I needed to get used to it to some extent.

Of course, the embarrassment was inevitable.

    “Ugh.”

With Delphine’s help, I dried off and put on my underwear.

Sitting on the bed with a freshly cleaned body, I saw Delphine approaching with a new patient gown.

“Harang, can you raise your arms?”

    “Raise my arms.”

“No, not just say it actually lift them.”

    “Oh.”

Following Delphine’s words, I tried lifting my arms.

I managed to hold them up for about three seconds before they gave out, forcing me to lower them again.

“Harang, can’t you keep your arms up?”

“Yeah. I don’t have the strength to lift them.”

    “Oh dear.”

Delphine grabbed my arms and effortlessly lifted them up.

She was doing everything for me, so all I had to do was sit still.

    “Thanks, Delphine.”

“There’s no need to thank me. I’m your assistant, after all.”

At her words, I flinched slightly.

Last night, she had said that if I treated her carelessly, she might quit being my assistant.

    ‘What if she really quits?’

Asking my subordinate to help me get dressed was definitely an abuse of power.

If Delphine decided to quit, I wouldn’t even be able to argue.

Right now, I had no choice but to keep her in a good mood.

    “Delphine.”

    “Hm?”

    “You’re my favorite friend.”

As I spoke, I carefully watched her reaction.

She was crouching down to help me put on my pants.

When she slid them up from the bottom, I lifted my hips slightly.

    “Harang… I’m your favorite friend?”

    “Yeah.”

    I nodded without hesitation.

After all, Delphine was my only friend so she was obviously my favorite.

    It wasn’t a lie.

    “M-My favorite…”

At my words, Delphine lowered her head, her body squirming awkwardly.

Even without thinking too hard, I could tell she was happy.

Maybe I should keep pushing forward like this.

Like a fierce and wild tiger.

    “Delphine, let’s live together forever.”

    “……”

    She hesitated before nodding shyly.

Her entire face was red, as if all the blood in her body had rushed to it.

She fidgeted with her fingers for a moment before finally looking up, as if she had something to say.

    “Uh… Harang.”

    “Yeah?”

“You have a lot of friends, don’t you?”

    “…?”

I was at a loss for words.

Because, contrary to her expectations, I didn’t actually have that many friends.

    ‘What do I do?’

I didn’t want to lie and say I had a lot of friends.

But admitting I had none was embarrassing, too.

Caught between the two options, I pressed my lips together in silence.

Meanwhile, Delphine stroked her chin and mumbled to herself.

“Harang must have at least a few hundred friends…”

    “H-Hundreds…?”

At my startled voice, Delphine flinched.

“Oh, maybe not? Then is it a thousand?”

    “A thousand…?”

“Not even a thousand? Then two thousand?”

What exactly did she think I was for the number to keep increasing?

At this rate, she might push it to ten thousand.

    ‘Ugh.’

    There was no other way.

As embarrassing as it was, I had to tell her the truth.
