Chapter 5: It was really cute

    [Sieun’s Perspective]

Yunho’s expression was pure disgust. I was impressed by the audacity of such open contempt towards one’s older sister.

    “Hey, why that face?”
    “Well, because you’re…”
“I told you to call me Unni.”

Yunho’s continued defiance snapped my patience. I roughly covered Yunho’s mouth. Yunho’s eyes widened in fear. Don’t be scared, Yunho. I just lost my temper for a moment.

Knowing that an immediate return to sweetness would seem suspicious and only encourage Yunho’s defiance, I put down the spoon and left, saying, “Eat it or don’t.” Don’t hate me, Yunho. Once this is over, we’ll be happy.

Yunho is too masculine… I should change it.

On a whim, I headed to the district office. The process was tedious, but the thought of Yunha becoming a true girl kept me going. Yes, Yunha. It was the perfect name.

I knocked on Yunha’s door, not knowing the passcode yet.

Silence. No welcoming Yunha. Playing hard to get, are we? I knocked harder.

    Bang! Bang! Bang!

Finally, Yunha opened the door, looking anything but pleased.

    “What… are you back for?”
    “Finally.”

I unzipped my jacket, reaching into my pocket.

“Nothing much. We need to change your name, Yunho.”

I pulled out the name change application and handed it to Yunha, who responded with a bizarre expression I’d never seen before.

“Yunho, no, Yunha. You’re a girl now, so your name needs to change too.”
    “What are you…”

Yunha looked at me as if I were spouting nonsense. If you keep this up, I won’t have a choice… Yunha’s expression hardened.

“No. I won’t do what you say.”

My patience is wearing thin. Is Yunha testing me? This was getting ridiculous. But I’m the older sister, so I have to be patient.

“How many times do I have to tell you? Call me Unni. And you have to fill this out.”

I tried to sound gentle. Maybe I should have focused on the name first…

But Yunha, seemingly oblivious to my inner turmoil, spoke with renewed conviction.

“Yunho isn’t a bad name. I think it suits me.”

I almost lashed out again but stopped myself. Violence wasn’t the answer. I lowered my hand. This is your last chance.

“Yunha, you’re a girl now. You need to let go of your male name and start living as a woman.”
“No. Even if my body has changed… I’m a man.”

You’re asking for it, aren’t you, Yunha?

I sighed dramatically, running a hand through my hair. Surely, Yunha understands how much I’m holding back.

“Lee Yunho. Listen to me while I’m being nice.”

I let my annoyance show. Yunha was trembling, practically vibrating with fear. Probably remembering the past…

With trembling hands and tears streaming down, Yunha began filling out the application. It was quite endearing.
