Chapter 9 : Who Are You?
by AfuhfuihgsThe day the first official lecture begins.
While heading to the lecture hall with Ernia, who can’t wake up in the morning, I see a familiar face.
“Arden!”
I wave my hand with a happy heart, and Arden approaches us.
“You’re making a fuss from the morning.”
“This much is basic for a vibrant start to the morning!”
“Are Commoners all like that?”
To others, it might look like he’s looking down on me for being a Commoner, but I see it differently.
He seems unfamiliar and awkward, perhaps because he’s not used to it.
I poke his side, and he reacts. He’s friend number 2 who’s fun to tease.
“D-Don’t poke me!”
“Ahaha! Your side is weak!”
Ernia, who had been staring intently at me playing around with Arden, hugs me and seems to be wary of him.
“If you try anything funny, you won’t get away with it.”
“Who’s trying anything funny!? It’s the opposite!”
“Is that calculated too!?”
“What nonsense are you talking about!?”
Ernia warns me that all men are beasts, and Arden, seeing this, grabs his forehead and walks ahead.
I followed Arden and talked about the first lecture today, but as expected, he doesn’t know anything.
The curriculum changes every year, and there’s no such thing as a “족보(jokbo),” so exam periods are hell.
Well, it’s not my problem, though.
As we enter the lecture hall, our classmates welcome us.
Because of what happened yesterday, our class was different from the others. It seems they only put in kids who are crazy… no, full of personality. They don’t have the sense of authority that nobles should have.
Unlike the normal difficulty where you’re ostracized just for being a Commoner, this is hard difficulty, but why is it easier?
There’s only one case where you should be suspicious in this situation.
The curriculum has changed.
At that moment, Professor Millie Allegra opens the lecture hall door and enters.
“Welcome. Did you all arrive at the dormitory safely yesterday? From today, I will be teaching Magicology in earnest, so if you have any questions, raise your hand and ask them.”
The lecture starts, and she begins with what Magicology is, but due to the boring lecture, victims began to appear one by one.
After lecturing for a long time, the professor looked around the lecture hall, where most of the students were wiped out, took out a wand from her bosom, and waved it once. The body of a fallen student floated in the air.
“I’m disappointed in our student for dozing off from the first lecture.”
With those words, the children floating in the air disappeared, and only a few remained in the class.
The professor continues the class as if nothing happened.
When I raise my hand, she tells me to ask a question.
“Where did the disappeared students go?”
“Good question. I moved them to proceed with practical training if they don’t like theoretical lectures.”
The assistant who is waiting ‘there’ will take care of the rest, but did she even calculate this?
Recalling the nightmare from yesterday, I vowed never to doze off during lectures and looked at the seat next to me, but Ernia is gone.
…Did you doze off too?
“Where is this!?”
“I don’t know.”
I was dozing off while listening to the boring lecture until just now, but in an instant, I felt a sense of floating, and when I looked around, it was dark and I couldn’t see anything.
Just in case, I looked around for students who had fallen nearby, but Aris is not there.
“Aris is not here!”
“It seems that only students who were dozing off during the lecture were moved. If my hypothesis is correct, it’s natural that she’s not here.”
Well, our Aris is diligent, so there’s no way she would doze off during the lecture, right?
I let out a sigh of relief, but how do I get out of here?
Last time, I was able to escape safely with Aris’s help, but this time Aris is not here.
I have no choice but to take care of the friends who are out of their minds when I hear footsteps and something approaches. Is it the teaching assistant?
“This is Professor Millie Allegra’s message. If you don’t like theoretical lectures, she said to use Magic, which is the basis of Magicology, to proceed with practical training and return to the lecture hall within an hour.”
An hour? I don’t even know how far away it is, so how am I supposed to get back!?
At that moment.
Evangeline Mundrae, the young lady of the Count family with impressive purple hair, raises her glasses and gathers the children.
“I have a good idea. If you use Magic, there will be a unique residue of Mana left behind. How about following that to the classroom?”
The basics of Magicology.
All Magic leaves behind the user’s unique Mana.
When a Magic crime occurs, investigations are conducted based on Mana, and the idea is to use this to find the way.
It’s not like going back to the dormitory like last time, but going back to the academy lecture hall, which is the place where it was cast, so it’s not difficult. She takes out her wand and casts Magic, and traces are displayed.
I didn’t know well because it was dark, but when I saw the traces of Mana, I realized that the path was like a maze.
I move following Evangeline, who is leading the way, when I hear a thud! from behind, along with a chilling voice.
“Human…”
When we all turn around, we see an unfamiliar creature.
A being with a huge height like a giant and the head and tail of a bull is holding a huge axe.
At that moment when everyone is frozen, Evangeline’s voice echoes.
“R-Run away!”
We run with Evangeline with hurried steps, and a monster chases us.
Just as we were about to be caught up with the sound of thud! thud! thud! coming from behind, we pass through a transparent barrier and see the academy building.
“W-We’re alive…”
My legs give way and I sit down on the spot, and Evangeline reaches out her hand with a worried look.

“Are you okay?”
“I’m okay.”
I take Evangeline’s hand and get up, and she takes care of the other children.
I watched her and then shouted to get their attention. The students look at me.
“I recommend Evangeline Mundrae as the class president to lead our class! Does anyone have any objections!?”
Everyone’s eyes meet once, and our class president is decided.
“B-But there are students who aren’t here?”
“It’s okay! There are more of us!”
Minority opinions are ignored! No, it’s a peaceful way to decide by the principle of majority rule!
This is one of the rules that must be followed in Magic school.
Using the rule that everyone is equal in Magic school as an example, I said that it was decided by majority rule, so I wouldn’t accept any objections, and Evangeline agrees.
At the same time, her eyes flash and she smiles.
“Then, follow me, the class president!”
“Yes!”
Like baby birds following their mother bird, we open the lecture hall door following the class president, and our professor and classmates welcome us.
“This year’s freshmen are quite something. You passed. You know the basics of Magicology very well.”
With those words, she says that today’s lecture is over and leaves the lecture hall, and our classmates approach us.
Of course, Aris was there too.
“Ernia! I’m glad you’re safe! Arden too!”
“Hehehe, of course! Who do you think I am!? I’m the young lady of the Dragonian Duke family!”
“Is it right to proudly say that here? It would have been a disaster if it weren’t for Evangeline.”
At the same time, I remember something I had forgotten and shout to get their attention. The students look at me.
Pointing to Evangeline next to me, I declared.
“From today, our class president is Evangeline! It was decided by the principle of majority rule, so everyone follow her!”
“We don’t remember voting?”
“According to the principle of majority rule, minority opinions can be ignored!”
The students have bewildered faces.
Arden, who was grabbing his forehead, came forward and explained what had just happened, and only then did they agree. Did I do something wrong?
“You don’t agree with what I say, but you agree with what you say!?”
“That’s because you left out all the details and didn’t say it properly.”
“What did you say!?”
I calmed down Ernia and Arden, who were growling at each other every time they met, and looked at Evangeline, who had been appointed as our class president.
She must have felt my gaze, as she looked at me and smiled.
If it’s a face I don’t know, it’s not a named NPC.
Then who is she? Why is she getting so much enthusiastic support from the other kids!?
Originally, players could run for class president, but this time, even the opportunity was taken away.
…I wasn’t planning on being class president, but I’m embarrassed that even the opportunity was taken away.
I’ll have to keep an eye on her for a while.
After the morning lecture, we move to have lunch together.
The whole class moves following the class president, and the other students look at us with curious eyes.
The class president’s face turns red at the sight of the baby birds following the mother bird, and she moves with quick steps, but the pace quickens to match her.
“U-Um, isn’t it okay to eat separately?”
Following the class president’s words that it’s good to work together, but moving as a group can cause harm to other students, we move in groups of three. Of course, it’s me, Ernia, and Arden.
Arden makes a dissatisfied expression when we move together as a group of three.
“I’ll eat separately.”
As soon as he finishes speaking, I grab Arden’s arm, and he is horrified. He’s a young master who’s fun to tease.
“You can’t go! Our class president decided it!”
“D-Don’t you have any shame!?”
“Don’t cling to our Aris!”
“Who’s clinging!?”
