Chapter 62: The Orc Tribal Chief
by AfuhfuihgsThe Orc Tribal Chief
There was no need to specifically search for the Orc Tribal Chief. As we approached the source of the screams, a particularly large tent came into view. It was so massive that it was puzzling how we hadn’t noticed it until now.
“Kyaaaah—!”
We moved little by little, using the adventurer’s screams as cover.
“Inis.”
I called to her as we got closer. When I pointed inside with my finger, Inis nodded.
Thud—
“Gurk, gururuk….”
She entered the tent. Following that came the sound of blood gurgling. When I went inside, I saw her with a knife in an orc’s neck.
As she twisted and pulled out her longsword, the orc’s form collapsed. It convulsed on the ground before taking its last breath.
I put down my bag. I took out jerky and water from inside and handed them to them. Inis and Isabella each took one and ate.
“From here on, Inis will take the lead in dealing with the orcs. Isabella, please snipe all enemies approaching the tent.”
“Yes.”
“Understood.”
After leaving my bag in the corner of the tent, I went outside. Inis moved quickly to approach the tent.
Creeak- Whizz—!
As we were heading toward the tribal chief, Isabella suddenly shot her bow. An arrow lodged between the eyes of an orc approaching from far away.
“Well done.”
Inis also went ahead and dealt with the orcs around one by one. Upon reaching the tent, she immediately entered.
Bang!
I saw her hastily raise her shield. Following that came a loud noise.
“The goblin shaman seems to have noticed!”
“Fire.”
At Inis’s words, I immediately summoned flames and burned the tent in front of us. The interior was revealed as it turned to ash and scattered.
“Kerururuk!”
The goblin shaman was holding a staff and shouting. The Orc Tribal Chief was seen hastily putting on his pants. The female adventurer visible beyond them had long since become a corpse.
“Keruk!”
“Kuaaaaaaak—!”
Orcs and goblins near the shaman rushed toward us. I really had no idea why the shaman and his subordinates were here.
“Spread out!”
I closed my eyes tightly and imagined intense flames in my mind. A surging torrent of flames. Fierce flames that greedily devoured magic power and grew larger.
Flare—!
A wave of fire rushed toward the enemy. The goblin shaman behind them struck the ground with his staff and shouted.
Boom!
Suddenly, soil erupted from the ground and wrapped around the shaman. The orcs and goblins melted completely under the intense firepower. After the wave passed, the wall collapsed. The shaman remained unharmed.
“Uoooooook—!!!”
“Master. We’ll handle the tribal chief! Isabella, I need your support!”
Inis threw her shield at the tribal chief. She gripped her longsword with both hands and advanced, scattering red light.
“Master!”
Isabella suddenly grabbed my shoulder.
Whoosh-
Something passed over my head. The sound made my hair stand on end. I swallowed hard and turned my head forward again. I could see the goblin shaman waving his staff and muttering.
“Fire Arrow.”
I immediately uttered the spell as I stood up. Now was not the time to thank her, but to annihilate the enemy.
The word I uttered with will received the power of magic and manifested in reality.
Flare-
As I pointed the burning fire arrow at the enemy, the divine power immediately began to fly. The shaman struck the ground with his staff.
Boom!
The soil that rose up flew toward the arrow. It seemed intended to block the attack.
Whoosh-!
I moved my finger. The arrow soared and disappeared, tearing through the tent.
“Kererererek-!”
The goblin shaman danced happily. Though he couldn’t block it with soil, the attack had disappeared, so he must have thought all was well regardless.
But what about this? My divine power hadn’t actually disappeared.
“Accelerate.”
“Keruk?”
When I twitched my finger again, he cast a questioning glance. Then his eyes widened as if they would burst. Following that, he raised his head toward the ceiling, or rather, the sky.
The arrow reappeared, tearing through the tent again. He struck the ground with his staff. Soil rose up, but its speed was too slow.
Flare!
The divine power, falling like lightning, lodged in the crown of the goblin shaman’s head. Flames instantly spread from his head, and his entire body caught fire.
“Keaaaaaaak—!”
If it had been others, they would have already turned to ashes and disappeared. Perhaps because he was a shaman, he endured unusually long, but only to that extent.
Splash-
Before long, the goblin shaman’s body melted. It became one with the ground and met its death.
Bang—!
I dealt with this side easily. But the problem here wasn’t the shaman, but the Orc Tribal Chief. And the orcs and goblins swarming from all directions.
Toot—!
The sound of a horn reverberated. The subsequent sound of drums suggested they had declared a state of emergency.
“Kuaaaaaaaak—!”
The cries of orcs and goblins came from all directions. Fierce shouts. I wasn’t sure if the female adventurers could survive, let alone us.
Clang—!
An intense metallic sound.
The tribal chief’s axe blocked Inis’s diagonal strike.
Swish—!
With a sharp cutting sound, her longsword flew in. The attack thrust toward the abdomen. A single point was marked on his waist.
Clang!
At this moment, the Orc Tribal Chief’s response was very skillful. He raised the axe he had been holding down and completely knocked away the longsword. The impact caused Inis’s arms to point skyward.
“Uaaaaak—!”
The tribal chief immediately swung his axe down at the disarmed Inis. Or rather, he tried to. If it hadn’t been for Isabella’s interference, that is.
Whizz—!
The flying arrow hit his arm precisely. The tribal chief hesitated in his raised position. Following that, two more arrows flew, filled with red magic power.
One lodged in his shoulder, the other in the back of his hand. Even in that brief moment, he had stretched out his arm to block the arrows. This must be why he was the tribal chief.
Grr-
He exuded killing intent toward us. He broke the arrows with his hand. Meanwhile, Inis retreated and briefly regrouped.
Just as the tribal chief was about to approach us, Inis rushed at him again.
Clang-!
I closed my eyes. And began to imagine a spear of fire in my mind. A flame spear larger and more intense than before, one that could annihilate the enemy at once.
First, burning flames. Then, a sharp spear that seemed capable of piercing through everything.
I continued to imagine and imagine, creating a clear image. The moment I vividly recalled the form of the divine power, I infused it with magical power.
Flare-
The gray picture was dyed red. Intense flames that eventually began to burn even the canvas. It felt as if the magical power flowing throughout my body was boiling.
“Flame Spear.”
The divine power that received the incantation passed through the realm of the ideal and appeared in reality. The corners of my mouth naturally turned up at the felt heat.
Flare—!
When I opened my eyes, I saw that the massive flame spear had burned down all the tents. A vast open field. I could see goblins and orcs running toward us, passing between the tents.
“Cough, cough!”
When I coughed, blood spurted out. Invariably, I had converted insufficient magical power into life force to use it.
It had happened before, but this time I had drawn a more intense picture, so it should have been worse.
My whole body trembled. My eyes were heavy, and cold sweat ran down my back. My face contorted with a headache that felt like a needle stirring my brain.
It felt like I would collapse at any moment, but I bit down hard on my lip and moved my finger.
Whoosh—!
The flame spear began to sweep the surroundings.
“Master. Not where the adventurers and bag are!”
“I know.”
At Isabella’s shout, I adjusted the attack. I wasn’t sure if this was right. In fact, I didn’t have the energy to worry about such things.
Flare—!
The flame spear emitted intense heat and annihilated the enemy. The bodies of orcs and goblins melted as soon as they came near.
“Kerururuk!”
It took less than 30 seconds to deal with the enemies that had swarmed from all directions. It was truly like a disaster.
An orc that had been charging fearlessly retreated hesitantly. The cunning goblins had already distanced themselves.
The enemies were getting farther away. I wanted to throw the spear and clean them all up, but I no longer had the magical power to do so.
The only enemy I could attack now was the tribal chief. I moved my finger toward him. The tip of the spear aimed at him.
Whoosh—!
The flame spear cut through the air as it flew. The tribal chief’s eyes widened as if they would burst. He tried to escape the scene, but Inis was faster.
Swish—!
Her longsword sliced across the tribal chief’s leg. The wound wasn’t deep, but it was enough to momentarily halt his movement. That brief hesitation decided the outcome.
Crash—!
The spear lodged in the tribal chief’s heart. The blazing flames burned the enemy.
“Uaaaaaaaaaak—!!!”
The tribal chief fell to his knees, screaming in pain. He grabbed the spear with his hands. The moment he applied force to pull it out, his tendons had already caught fire.
The tribal chief’s form gradually collapsed.
His heart melted, and even the surrounding organs all melted. Blood boiling. The tribal chief seeped into the ground, and finally, only a magic stone fell out.
“Withdraw.”
After the gatekeeper disappeared from the world, I finally withdrew the flame spear. A little magical power returned to me. My deteriorated physical condition improved slightly.
I turned my head to look at the orcs and goblins around. They stood still in place, but fear was visible in their eyes.
Whizz—!
Isabella shot an arrow. The moment it hit an orc between the eyes and he fell to the ground.
“Uaaaaaaak—!”
“Keruruk!”
They began trampling the tents and fleeing in all directions. Only after all the enemies had disappeared from the surroundings did I sit down in place.
“Master. Are you okay!?”
Isabella approached me. I covered my eyes with my hand and nodded.
‘I’m so fucking tired….’
But we got him.
『You have completed the quest!』
