Lord of Despair and Hatred (4)

Lord of Despair and Hatred (4)

The fear of death. That’s what began to fill the scene. Stupidly, it’s only when someone actually dies, spewing blood, that they come to their senses.

Typical of people these days who don’t realize they’re just pitiful lives that could die at any time.

    “You.”

    “Me?”

I pointed at one of the trembling policemen.

I don’t know much about police ranks, unlike military ranks, but he was a young male police officer anyway. There were two things that looked like pinecones attached to his shoulder boards.

“You must know there’s no need to be afraid.”

“…You didn’t point at me just now.”

“That’s right. In fact, you’re a ‘good person’ I can’t touch. It means you’re a true police officer.”

“That can’t be. I’m also someone who moved without protesting orders from above.”

He quietly shook his head while maintaining his tension.

His face was full of self-reproach. But does he really know? At least because he’s feeling self-reproach, the magical girl’s eyes judged him to be a good person.

According to Yggdrasil’s will, magical girls were clearly beings who protected the order of the world, not beings who destroyed indiscriminately.

“Well, however you think, that’s ultimately your mind. Just answer my question now.”

    “What?”

“The guy who just died spilled everything. He said he just faithfully and diligently followed orders from above like a hunting dog. Where do you think that ‘above’ is?”

I jumped out of the patrol car and approached him with a smirk. He flinched but couldn’t bring himself to back away or run.

When we finally met face to face, he looked down at me and moved his lips.

    “I can’t say.”

    “Why not?”

    “Because you’ll kill them.”

This young police officer took a deep breath and firmly refused my request. I had roughly expected this. Moreover, I had no way to forcibly make him open his mouth.

But that doesn’t mean there’s no way. I really wanted to hear the answer from him.

    “Then there’s no choice.”

I snorted and moved the shadows creeping around the area.

    “Ugh, uwaagh!”

    “Help! Someone help!!”

Tentacles spewing from the shadows grabbed all the other people around. As if they could crush and kill them at will.

His eyes shook violently at the screams and commotion erupting from all directions.

“If you don’t speak, I’ll kill them one by one. Cruelly, slowly, breaking each bone until their screams and pleas create a beautiful harmony pleasant to the ears.”

How could someone with a kind nature withstand such a threat?

    “Stop!”

“Where in the world is there an idiot who stops just because you tell them to stop with your mouth? It all depends on your actions.”

    “Aaaagh!”

He spoke urgently and reached out to me, but with a cracking sound, the closest policeman let out an earth-shattering scream.

    “Fuck, speak! I said speak!”

“The police chief and deputy chief, no, even the commissioner!!”

Those who seemed to have fallen into panic all started talking at once. However, I had no intention of listening to their stories.

“All of you shut up. How can I trust the words of people like you? I’ll only believe the words of a ‘true policeman’.”

    “Mmph!”

Although it’s a shame not to hear their screams, I covered their mouths. Then, smiling at him, I gave him another chance to choose.

“If you refuse this time, I’ll fold those guys’ waists in half. In the opposite direction.”

    “Stop it. I’ll talk.”

He finally gave in to the light threat.

“…Putting everything else aside, I know that the direct order to focus on the investigation of supernatural beings in support of the Awakened Special Forces ultimately came from the Commissioner himself.”

“Is the new police chief that bald guy? His name was Moon-seok something.”

I wasn’t particularly interested in or planning to do the crazy thing of killing everyone one by one.

So to create the biggest ripple effect with minimal deaths, taking out the highest leader would be the best option.

That’s what being at the top means, after all.

They should take responsibility as much as they enjoyed their authority. How dare they.

    “…Good job.”

I smiled at him, who looked completely drained, then released the others before taking off into the sky once again.

I intended to finish what I needed to do before the night was over.

“If you act too aggressively, won’t it be bad for public opinion among magical girls?”

“I’m not new to politics, Ren.”

As we crossed the Seoul sky, Ren showed his typical worrying tendency, but I didn’t pay it any mind.

“Even if they have advantages in controlling the media and manipulating the police like puppets, in this day and age they can’t completely erase obvious facts. So all they do is thoroughly lock down anything unfavorable to them and try to divert attention.”

If the opponent responded normally, that public opinion strategy would work. Hide your own faults, and attack the opponent’s faults. That’s their method.

“But I’m going to go wild and crazy.”

They won’t be able to hide their wounds. Because I’m going to rip them open.

They won’t be able to stop it either. It’s impossible for the likes of them to stop me. It’s inevitable. From now on, they just need to take the beating.

And these days, people often use the difference in power and authority as a measure of good and evil, just as they were enthusiastic about Casilena.

Personally, I think it’s a really stupid and pathetic attitude, but right now that underdog mentality will help me.

What I’m doing now is a kind of judgment, and those in power have become evil, while the victims of power are clearly the underdogs.

    “Stop! Taquilas!”

    “Oh ho. A head-on approach?”

Eventually, I arrived at the National Police Agency of South Korea.

The moment I saw the broadcasting helicopter floating in the distance watching me, I had a hunch, but there were already numerous people waiting at the police agency.

It seems their boasting about working on a special investigation headquarters for dealing with strange individuals wasn’t just hot air after all.

“All sorts of characters have crawled out, haven’t they?”

“Stop your actions immediately. What you’re doing is a crime!”

“Do you have something to rely on? You’re quite bold.”

I descended to the ground while in the spotlight. Heavily armed police officers pointed their guns at me. Of course, I didn’t care about it at all.

From the beginning, they probably didn’t come out so boldly just relying on armed police.

There were quite a few broadcasting cameras as well.

“You must have heard what I said earlier.”

I wiped the smile off my face and drew up my power. In an instant, I filled and pressed down on this area with my magical power.

“If you have any complaints against me, I told you to challenge me. Is this gathering meant to be a challenge? Are you confident?”

“C-calm down. We’re also trying to understand the situation.”

    “Understand? Is that so?”

I let out a hollow laugh at the words of the representative holding the megaphone. Beside him, with an anxious expression, was clearly Police Commissioner Moon Seok-yong.

“No. You don’t know anything. This is beyond negligence of duty. You’ve simply abandoned your responsibilities.”

    “What do you mean…”

“Among the strange individuals active now, there’s one who corrupts normal people and turns them into monsters. They use people’s hatred and resentment as a catalyst to turn them into monsters.”

I told them the truth. Of course, would they even pretend to listen?

“So beating those monsters is useless. They’re just side branches. Rather, your arrogant greed has fueled it.”

“Don’t talk nonsense. Where do you get off spreading lies and inciting people!”

At that moment, Police Chief Moon Seok-yong fidgeted and grabbed the megaphone. Those around him seemed flustered, not having expected this.

“Right. You’d be happy about this. Just calling it results.”

    “W-what you’re doing now is…”

“No need to make excuses anymore. You’re just the same as them. Me too, I might as well beat up some villains to boost my performance a bit.”

I increased the flow of magical power. The formless shadow that couldn’t be stopped had already started to climb not only this parking lot but also the surrounding buildings.

“I’ll say it once more. Are you going to challenge me? As you’ve already heard, I don’t consider myself just a mere hunting dog.”

I floated in the air and spoke quietly to them. Naturally, most of them were greatly shaken and flustered.

“What are you doing! Stay in your positions right now!”

The police special forces at the forefront were the first to start collapsing.

No matter how much their superiors shouted, the subordinates had no intention of fighting a losing battle.

    “Ugh, aaaaah!”

The defense line crumbles on its own, one by one.

Even the police executives guarding Moon Seok-yong fled one by one. I approached him, still floating.

    “Stop, Magical Girl.”

The last to show loyalty was an awakened special agent in a suit.

“I am Kim Sung-soo, leader of Special Team 3. Stop this immediately, this person is the Police Chief appointed by the order of the President of this country. Laying hands on him means making enemies of all of us…”

    “Kyaaak! Team Leader!”

The guy who was talking sternly with a stiff face was cut in half, suit and all, by the shadow tentacle I wielded.

It seems the level of the Special Forces is quite apparent, given that their team leader couldn’t even block such a simple attack while holding that position.

    “I’m sure I told you.”

    “Huh, huh…”

“All of you, what did you think you were doing? All of you, this entire country, did you dare to think you could defeat me?”

I went up to Moon Seok-yong’s face, who was trembling in panic, and whispered.
