Chapter 68: The Right Attitude (3)
by AfuhfuihgsThe Right Attitude (3)
“Such evil humans…”
“Just in case, I’ll say this, but they’re only a small part. Those guys are extremists who are shunned even among other humans.”
When I informed Ellua and the other elves about the information we had discovered, I comforted Ellua, whose face had reddened with anger.
Fortunately, unlike before, today’s elves don’t unconditionally reject humans or other races, so contrary to my worry, this anger didn’t lead to hatred towards the entire race.
“The High Elf is right. Among the humans we’ve met so far… there were certainly quite a few good ones. Just look at the people here.”
Arisa agreed with my words and glanced to the side. Patrick and Laila, who suddenly became the focus of the elves’ attention, flinched and coughed awkwardly.
Until now, the connection through me was too strong, so it was still awkward, but because they had been together for a while, they were gradually starting to interact with each other. Nothing grand was needed. Just getting to know each other was enough to form a bond.
“They seem to have been quite thorough with security, but they don’t know that their plans are leaking. They’ll probably attack as planned. We’ll pretend we don’t know, then counterattack and wipe them out in reverse.”
I smirked and explained the plan. I intended to clear out such extremists regardless of race or faction whenever possible.
No matter how I thought about it, they were of no help. Especially now, when everyone needs to unite their strength.
“You’ll probably be safe until then. So just relax.”
“In just two days, we have to leave this place and return to the city first. What will you do, High Elf?”
“Once I solve this problem, I’ll move straight to the Order’s headquarters. By then, the situation in the Order should be settled too.”
Great Priest Lebevre of the Order, who has joined hands with us, is already counterattacking the opposing faction and turning the tide.
That side probably won’t take long to finish sorting things out either. Then I just need to go there and quietly get what I wanted, and it’s over.
“Then, we’ll act as you’ve instructed.”
Everyone present nodded. I suddenly became the leader directing all the plans, and it was true that I felt a little tense because of it.
“Is it right not to inform the king? His subordinates are plotting such a wicked scheme, or rather, their very ideology is dangerous. This Narian Kingdom strictly prohibits discrimination against other races by law.”
Patrick, who remained after all the elves had left, whispered cautiously. Starting as a mere adventurer and gradually getting involved in bigger scale events seems to be burdening him, but by nature, he tended to be faithful to the given tasks.
“If we inform him, the information might leak unnecessarily, and honestly, I don’t find that kid king particularly trustworthy.”
However, I shook my head at his suggestion that we should inform the king.
The king of the Narian Kingdom I saw was a child in his early teens who had just ascended to the throne. Although he showed a somewhat mature and serious demeanor befitting a king who had studied kingship, there seemed no need to involve a kid who should be in middle school in this matter.
“Then that means we have to manage the military force by ourselves without the kingdom’s support.”
“It’s not like they’re going to mobilize a large-scale army. We should be able to handle a few dozen.”
Patrick seemed quite uneasy, but I believed in the combat experience I had accumulated so far. The power I possess is clearly something hard to imagine in this era.
So the enemies, who are unaware of not only my identity but even my existence, are bound to fall more easily to my power.
* * *
“Then, please go safely. I look forward to the day we meet again.”
“Of course, Your Majesty.”
The day came for the elven delegation to depart. Having only visited the Narian Kingdom, they decided to return to their homeland first to report the results of the talks.
Other countries that had hoped for their visit might be disappointed, but the Narian Kingdom gained considerable benefits because of this.
“Oh my, his eyes are about to pop out. I guess he’s a man too, after all.”
Isilia, moving along with the elves, smirked as she saw the face of the boy in the distance. His eyes, fixed on Ellua, were completely entranced.
Rumors that the king had fallen for the elves were already unstoppable.
“Is it really possible? Even if not necessarily with Lady Ellua, a marriage alliance between humans and elves?”
“Nobody knows what will happen in the world.”
She shrugged at Lina’s words beside her. Right now, both elves and humans may hate half-breeds, but there’s no guarantee that it will last forever.
“You’re a High Elf, aren’t you? What do you think, Lady Isilia?”
Naturally, Lina asked her. Having seen the considerable influence Isilia held, she thought the elves would follow her words.
“I don’t know either. They’ll judge and act on their own as they want, as they feel necessary.”
But she shook her head as if it were obvious.
From the beginning until now, she had no intention of interfering with the elves. She had to intervene and cause all this because it was absolutely necessary, but she really didn’t plan to interfere anymore after this.
“We’ll arrive there soon.”
As they said this, they passed through the jump point and arrived at their destination in an instant. It was the path to return to the elves’ homeland, and at the same time, the first and last space where enemies could target them.
“–, —!”
Then the spirits became busy. They were excited to discover a group lying in ambush nearby.
Smirking as if she had expected this, Isilia gradually raised her tension. The battle is about to begin.
“Wait!”
“!?”
However, at that moment, something unexpected happened that neither Isilia nor those currently in ambush could have anticipated.
There were people riding horses from behind. Moreover, the person riding a pure white horse was King Micail, who had been seeing them off in front of the palace.
“They’ve come!”
“Good, activate the spell!”
While the elven delegation was surprised with widened eyes at the king and his escort rushing from behind, unfortunately, the attackers who hadn’t realized this fact immediately launched their attack.
The first thing they tried was to activate a pre-prepared spell to bind the elves’ feet and obscure their vision.
A huge burning flame created a single band, instantly blocking the elves’ retreat path.
“It’s them!”
“Attack!”
The battle between the prepared elves and the attackers began immediately.
The attackers, with their faces covered by masks, confidently jumped out and attacked the surprised elves.
‘We are purifying the world…!’
Melchis, a member of the suicide squad with his face covered by a mask, rushed forward with his sword, his eyes reddened. Believing that the surprised elves were reacting to their attack.
“What on earth is going on!?”
“Your Majesty, it’s dangerous!”
However, the elves were surprised because of the king who suddenly appeared from behind, not because of the attack they already knew about.
Finding themselves suddenly mixed together, they began a fierce battle. The attackers were equally shocked to see the king and his escort.
“What should we do!?”
“F-For now, just attack the elves! The king must not be harmed at all costs!”
It literally became pandemonium. The king and his guards hurriedly helped the elves fight against the attackers, while the attackers abandoned their plan to capture the elves and fought with all their might.
“Oh, damn it…”
Meanwhile, Isilia was getting annoyed. Even with the power of the wind spirits, it was impossible to push back the flames summoned by magic.
This was an unexpected variable. She hurriedly erected an earthen wall to protect those who needed to be protected.
‘I need the power of a new spirit at this point.’
Isilia thought she should summon another spirit soon.
Still, she had accumulated quite a bit of power, so with a little more effort, she could surely summon a new spirit.
“Let’s win this first and think later.”
Although she couldn’t break the spell created by the enemies, that didn’t mean all her powers were sealed.
The enraged spirits exploded their power, pouring it towards the surprised attackers.
The ground shook with an earthquake, and a strong gale mixed with sharp stone fragments blew, tearing and cutting the flesh of the enemies.
“What on earth is going on!?”
Melchis and the other commanders of the attackers were greatly shocked and shaken. Spirit magic, which they had never experienced before, was a mysterious power that was difficult to react to immediately.
“Counterattack!”
Meanwhile, the elves counterattacked the enemies. The arrows and spears of the elves, who had already finished their battle preparations, pierced and stabbed the bodies of the attackers.
At this point, the attackers’ plan to capture the elves without casualties had already failed.
Now, for both sides, the priority became killing the enemy and surviving by any means necessary.
