Chapter 103: Ragnarok (2)
by fnovelpia
Fire and ice collided.
This was no mere natural phenomenon but a clash of divine powers.
The might of the gods was so formidable it could tear the world apart.
Yet in this clash of powers, Wolfgang’s flames held the upper hand.
She had already consumed countless powerful beings, using their strength as fuel for her fire.
In contrast, the Winter King chose to sustain his power through offerings.
While not a bad strategy, it was far from sufficient to fully restore his might.
But even this was difficult for the Winter Queen, who had not fully inherited her father’s power.
It was no surprise she was being overwhelmed by Wolfgang’s full assault.
Was she at a disadvantage?
Not exactly.
Each time Wolfgang wielded her flames, the pain in her eyes intensified.
The overwhelming power of the flames began to test the limits of her vessel.
Wolfgang wasn’t unaware of what this meant.
She was already nearly semi-divine.
Yet even this form couldn’t contain the power.
The flames had grown too large, having consumed too much fuel.
To contain them completely, she needed to become a god.
“Is it hard to endure? Of course it is! Your power is already godlike!”
“If you were a god, you would have abandoned this fight long ago. There’s no chance of winning. But what can you do? You’re not quite a god yet, are you?”
Wolfgang gritted her teeth.
The Winter Queen had been focusing entirely on defense, waiting to wear her down.
This left Wolfgang with two choices: conserve her strength and look for an opening, or unleash her full power to break through the defense.
Both options carried significant risk.
There was no time to delay the decision.
Procrastination would eventually eliminate the chance to choose at all.
“I’ll push with all my might until my body can’t take it anymore.”
“Quite a bold choice.”
“If full power doesn’t work, then it never would have.”
“True enough.”
As Wolfgang spoke, the world around her filled with flames.
The Winter Queen wasn’t just going to watch. The world transformed.
Muspelheim
Niflheim
The fiery hell and the icy hell clashed, each struggling to claim territory.
Wolfgang watched with interest.
“You’re using power similar to mine.”
“Not exactly. This is just a last resort to counter your Muspelheim. I couldn’t manifest it alone.”
“So you’re turning my strength against me? Clever thinking.”
“It’s strategy, not cleverness.”
The Queen had every reason to prepare.
Being overwhelmed in a power struggle while facing an enemy environment would be disastrous.
She wasn’t about to accept defeat quietly.
She would fight until the end. Wolfgang recognized this determination and sighed, adjusting her stance.
This was going to be troublesome.
The defense was stronger than expected.
Wolfgang had to admit the Queen was her father’s daughter.
But she couldn’t just stand by and watch.
She had to win.
“Next will be the sword of fire?”
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll use the spear of ice.”
“Why tell me that?”
“To let you know I’ll bring out my last resort to finish this.”
It seemed the Queen had prepared for this.
Or perhaps she was planning something.
Wolfgang hesitated briefly.
Should she use it now?
Was this what the Queen wanted?
Was she playing into her opponent’s plan?
After much consideration, Wolfgang decided to use it.
No other path was clear.
She needed to break through the defense, and time was limited.
Her body wouldn’t last forever.
Flames erupted around Wolfgang, forming armor around her body.
The intensity grew until a giant of flame appeared.
The Winter Queen finally laughed when she saw the massive fire giant, Surtr, who had defeated her father.
“Is this your secret weapon that felled my father?”
Muspelheim and Leviathan had only sustained the fight, not finished her father.
This was the ultimate power she had acquired in the final battle.
Surtr, the fire giant who had ended the Winter King’s reign.
Fire has long symbolized life, burning brightly then disappearing.
The Winter King represented death, completing the cycle of life and death.
But now someone was overcoming death.
Not quite human anymore, Wolfgang had crossed into semi-divine territory.
“This is your proof of becoming semi-divine.”
The fire giant Surtr extended his burning hand.
Even the ice symbolizing death began to melt.
The Queen’s ice couldn’t withstand Surtr’s flames.
But even in this dire situation, she didn’t give up. She had prepared for everything.
An ice giant, comparable to Surtr, emerged at her command.
“Frost giant to buy time while I drain your flames….!!”
The plan wasn’t bad. The ice giant made from her father’s bones could withstand Surtr.
But the Queen hadn’t anticipated Wolfgang’s human-derived strength.
As a commander of the Eastern Defense Army, Wolfgang had honed human techniques.
With a thunderous crash, the ground shook and all ice shattered.
Niflheim collapsed, allowing Muspelheim‘s flames to spread.
The Queen opened her eyes to see only flames before her.
But these too would soon fade.
“Almost had me there.”
“It was close. I’ll admit that.”
“Well done.”
“Any last words?”
“No, not really.”
She had never doubted herself as the Winter King’s heir and new ruling deity.
How ironic to be reduced to a mere pawn.
Perhaps she had foreseen this outcome.
Maybe she wanted to rest after everything.
But she couldn’t stop.
She had to fight until the end.
Everything she had done was too precious to abandon.
So she fought until everything burned away.
“If I could ask one thing… make sure to win the final battle for me.”
“I intended to anyway.”
“Then I’m content.”
With confident words, the Queen smiled as she received Wolfgang’s flaming sword.
In her final moments, her face appeared more peaceful than ever before.
