Chapter 121: Interlude
by fnovelpia
Guild Alliance
After the recent Sar Dragon Dungeon raid, the guilds within the alliance had been cooperating with each other.
It was only natural.
When they arrived late to help with the Sar Dragon Dungeon, they were left dealing with mere stragglers, and the public’s opinion of the guild alliance plummeted, leading to increased collaboration among them.
Especially when they were openly treated like fools, the shock was significant.
They had some pride, but it was all ruined by the damn Returner Guild.
“Isn’t the Kanora religion dangerous?”
“Yeah, it’s pretty dangerous.”
“The guild seems to be running better than expected.”
“They did conquer the Tower of Destruction, right?”
“Even if you dismiss the Tower of Destruction, just think about the Sar Dragon Dungeon.”
The guild alliance had to send representatives to discuss every time something happened with the Kanora religion.
It usually revolved around figuring out how to handle the nuisance that was the Kanora Guild.
“They’re no joke.”
“Lee Si-yeon even went solo to raid a dungeon.”
“Shouldn’t we impose sanctions?”
Yeah, if possible, they should. But…
“How are you going to impose sanctions?”
“I mean, Lee Si-yeon is strong too.”
“Physically?”
Earlier, someone mentioned Lee Si-yeon, and now they’re talking about physical sanctions.
It’s impossible.
If it were, they would’ve tried it already.
Lee Si-yeon alone would need to be dealt with, and the returners are no pushovers either.
“Doing that would mean going up against the returners. Let’s be rational. Do you think you can beat the Saintess?”
“If we bring in the top rankers…”
“Even if you win, there will be significant losses. Plus, the returner guild is backed by the president.”
“Not just that. They’ve also won public favor through their broadcasts.”
That’s the biggest factor.
The president, who dislikes the independent actions of the Awakener Management Bureau and guilds, is supporting them, and they’ve got the public on their side.
“Then…”
“The answer is for our guilds to coordinate together.”
“Squeeze them socially?”
“Exactly. If we go that route, they won’t have any options.”
“Alright, then let’s get the guild masters to coordinate.”
And so, it was decided that the guilds would form an alliance.
Whether this would be enough to stop Kanora’s advance remains to be seen.
-Kanora Church K-Succubus! Rewriting the history of succubuses!
-Post-cataclysm Korea. Opening up the Hallyu market again?
-President Ha Sang-jae awards the Kanora Guild for their conquest of the Tower of Destruction!
A few days had passed since the conquest of the Tower of Destruction.
The Kanora Church had gained more momentum since declaring their success in the tower.
Even though it’s just symbolic, the fact that the nation’s leader was directly backing the returner guild was a big deal.
I stopped scrolling through online articles and smiled.
“Whoa, my national pride is soaring.”
“More people are looking to join the guilds.”
I nodded at Battle mage’s comment.
“That’s good.”
Of course.
It’s the religion of the Hallyu star K-Succubus, supported by the president himself.
Plus, it exists as a returner guild.
Even Hunters who despise humanity are giving it significant support.
Even though the Demon King was defeated, the Kanora Guild’s successful raid on the Tower of Destruction was proof that returner guilds now had combat strength comparable to Hunter guilds.
On top of that, Lee Si-yeon was moving independently, and Park Yoo-jung was doing a good job being a lackey.
There shouldn’t be any problems, then.
“But honestly, I feel a bit guilty.”
“Guilty about what?”
“Well, it’s the Demon God. Not just anyone, but the Demon God.”
“As long as we don’t get caught, and if the Demon God helps people, what’s the problem?”
Even if it’s the Demon God, once they establish themselves, there’s no choice but to accept it.
The Demon God could be the only god in the world, so what’s the issue? It’s not something to fuss over.
Even if the story eventually comes out that the Demon God acted like a demon, as long as they behave well, it should be fine.
“Huh? Wait, Demon God?”
Our little angel in the room, who had been playing games, said that.
Oh right, they didn’t know.
“Ah, yeah. Our goddess consumed the Demon King’s soul and became the Demon God.”
“You’re saying she fell?”
Fell?
As if.
Our goddess is above that.
“She’s now fully a Demon God, governing death, so she’d be categorized as an evil god.”
“Damn. We need to escape this place as soon as possible.”
“I heard you recently reached Challenger rank?”
Apparently, it happened in a flash.
Without a single loss, they became a Challenger, so much so that people suspected them of cheating.
I don’t know much about AOS, but that’s Neiphir’s problem to deal with.
“Ugh.”
“I even heard they were offered a spot as a pro gamer.”
“That’s…”
What?
Were you going to argue?
Anyway, it’s true they got a pro gamer offer.
I heard about it.
Although judging from Neiphir’s reaction, it doesn’t seem like they’re interested in that kind of thing.
“Well, if it’s conditional, they can become a pro gamer. Our guild allows freedom, and besides, it’s a bit awkward to have an angel sitting idle in the corner.”
“Hey, that’s a bit harsh.”
“Anyway, what happens if our Demon God withdraws her blessing?”
“Uhh.”
Yeah, that’s what it is.
Our unemployed guy’s skills will decline.
There’s no helping it.
“You’ll drop to Bronze, right?”
“Hey, no way! I’m at least Gold level!”
Bronze or Gold, it’s only two tiers apart, isn’t it?
Anyway, Challenger-level players are beyond comparison.
“Are you going for Gold or Challenger? Priscilla or the Demon Lord? It’s one or the other. Especially since you’re sitting here guarding this guild.”
“Damn it.”
“Neiphir is also an angel of the Demon Lord Church like me, you know?” Now, where do you think you’re going? It’s impossible to back out now.
“What kind of hybrid is this…”
“Anyway, it’s not a bad thing. The Succubus is leading the Hallyu wave, and Neiphir is reviving the gaming industry.”
As the world collapsed, various industries were ruined, regardless of the country.
South Korea wasn’t an exception.
That’s what it says on the internet.
Even China was hit so hard that people are calling it the late Qing Dynasty, so that says it all.
Anyway, if the Kanora Church, made up of returnees, steps into various fields?
And they’re not even hunters.
There’s nothing stopping them.
“Well, gaming is just a matter of taste.”
“Then what, you’re going to let Neipir just laze around in a room?”
That’s not right.
Being a bum is just not okay.
“Well, that’s…”
“Hey, we at least clear dungeons. What about you?”
Even Battle mage stepped in to back me up.
At this point, Neiphir needs to clearly draw a line.
It’s better to support something else than some random minor deity like Priscilla, who isn’t even here.
“Um… Well, I also manage the gallery…”
“Didn’t you say the leader of the agitators handles that?”
“That’s true, but…”
“Well, if you just want to play games in your room, you could work as the main angel of the Kanora Church while I’m out.”
Even though I’m an angel, I have a stronger saintly image.
So, from the start, it’s better if Neiphir takes over.
“Fine, I’ll be respectful.”
“Ha ha ha, you should’ve said that sooner.”
In the end, Neiphir betrayed Priscilla for personal gain.
“Priscilla not coming to this world is the real tragedy!”
That’s right. It’s important to rationalize things like that.
“By the way, what about our Slime?”
“Oh wow, your story about us is doing surprisingly well.”
Slime, who was writing in the corner of the room, laughed sinisterly.
“Huh?”
“I’m writing a modern story where the rotten hunter society gets torn apart by heroes.”
“Oh, that sounds promising.”
Since the Kanora Church is doing well these days, a similar story will sell well too.
It’ll also have great promotional value.
Of course, Slime shouldn’t reveal who they really are.
Meanwhile, the leader of the agitators has already drawn in a variety of people, including members of the Kanora Church, K-Succubus, and the Saint’s fan club.
The agitator leader’s power, which once created waves of freedom, is now being fully utilized for the Kanora Church.
“But the real question is what we do from now on.”
“About what?”
“The Saint. We’re being watched by the hunter guilds.”
I had a feeling, but is that really the case?
“Since we cleared the Tower of Destruction?”
“No, actually, even before that. Remember the Dragon Dungeon?”
“Oh, right.”
Looking into the Hunter Gallery, there were all sorts of posts.
Especially a lot about the Kanora Church.
Most of the posts from hunters were about the need to keep an eye on us.
—
[General] Kanora Church is awesome [10]
– Anonymous (123.xxx) [General] Aren’t the top guilds screwed? [9]
– BabyHunterJang: Serves them right [32]
– KimchiSeller35Years [General]: LOL
– single hunter [General]: Left my guild [4]
– LifelongUnderachiever: Didn’t Iee-siyeon go to the Hwangryong Guild? [22]
– RebellionOfBeans [General]: a few days ago Hmm. A wide variety of posts. The titles are all different, but the content is all about the Kanora Church. If the Succubus shows up, we’ll have to deal with him.
—
“Since the president started supporting us, the guild alliance that originally intended to finish off the Dragon Dungeon has been rallying around that.”
Battle mage seemed worried.
“Well, that’s good, isn’t it?”
“No, it’s not.”
“At least since they’ve been hurt, it means they’re now trying to keep us in check, right?”
The initial goal has been achieved.
The guilds have suffered a blow, so now they’re banding together to counter us.
The immediate goal has been accomplished.
But the road ahead looks tough.
“Hmm. You’re right, but…”
“So we need to push forward even more.”
“They might start trying to rein us in.”
The guilds It would be dangerous if the guilds came at us. But there will be limits to that. They’re not idiots.
With how much we’ve showcased our strength on broadcasts and won public support, they won’t dare start a fight with us.
Unless they turn the country into a lawless zone like in China, they have enough sense not to make that mistake.
At least the current power players in South Korea won’t recklessly rush in like the idiots of the past.
“They’ll probably try to coordinate against us.”
“It’s already been confirmed that they’re cooperating.”
“They’ll likely try to block us from entering dungeons. If not, they’ll push to impose sanctions, claiming we were created by loopholes.”
It’s probably more the former.
