Chapter 46: Get Along Well
by fnovelpia
Whoosh.
After landing in a crowded area, I quickly picked up a nearby gun and started taking down enemies one by one.
Bang! Bang!
Since I had played a lot of FPS games, it wasn’t particularly difficult.
Not to mention, I had played this game before.
Tudududu~!
Grabbing more ammo, I fired at any opponent I spotted.
Since this wasn’t a team-based game, there was no need to hesitate—shooting on sight was the best strategy.
After all, only one person could be the last survivor.
“Hm, looks like I’ve cleared most of this area.”
[+HurryAndLeave: Damn. ㅋㅋ]
[This is it.]
[So clean. ㄹ]
[Pepe: That’s what you call aim and skill. ㅋㅋ]
[Though, the other players seem kinda bad at shooting.]
[It’s a low-tier lobby, so it can’t be helped.]
[Would’ve been more fun if the tier was higher.]
With that, the school area was secured.
There might still be players hiding, but it wasn’t worth wasting time searching for them.
It was better to move on quickly.
Tap, tap.
I grabbed only the necessary items and made my way out.
Checking the mini-map, I saw that I needed to move to the next safe zone.
Vroooom.
After riding the motorcycle for a while, I found a decent building.
It was a strong position since the only way in was through the staircase.
“I’ll camp here and take out players coming in.”
[+HurryAndLeave: Ooh.]
[This spot is solid.]
[Yeah, just wait here and ambush people.]
[The position is actually perfect.]
[Pepe: The next zone might even land here.]
[What if there’s already someone inside?]
“There’s probably no one here. This tier isn’t high enough for people to be hiding. Most players are just running around shooting for fun.”
A lot of people assume beginners would hide, but that’s not true.
Newbies don’t camp—they run around thinking, ‘I’ll be different,’ gun in hand.
[+HurryAndLeave: Aren’t you a newbie too?]
[Bruh, you’re acting like you’re some veteran. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
[Damn, he really thinks he’s a pro. ㄷ]
[Pepe: Compared to these players, he is kind of a pro. ㄹㄹ]
[Yeah, he’s at least above average here.]
“Come on, I’m not a beginner. I’ve played plenty of FPS games.”
Even if this was my first battle royale game, shooters were nothing new to me.
I wasn’t worried about handling unexpected situations.
At least, that’s what I thought—until I stepped into the building.
Tudududu—!!!
Bullets slammed into the walls at high speed.
“Whoa. That was surprising.”
I spoke calmly, but in reality, I was actually startled.
I hadn’t expected anyone to be inside.
[+HurryAndLeave: Wait, what?? ㅋㅋ]
[There was actually someone there?!]
[Didn’t you just say there wouldn’t be? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
[Maybe your opponent isn’t a newbie either.]
[They seem kinda skilled.]
[Pepe: Hurry up and kill them.]
At least I wasn’t dead yet.
As long as I healed up, I could turn this fight around.
Shff.
I started using a medkit when.
“Mmm, this delivery food is delicious.”
A familiar voice rang out.
Normally, in this game, your voice isn’t automatically transmitted to others.
Unless you specifically turn on your mic for team chat.
And right now.
The voice I heard was one I knew very well.
“…Isn’t that the ‘Chinese’ guy from the lobby earlier?”
If my memory was correct, that voice definitely matched.
Curious if the viewers thought the same, I checked the chat.
[+HurryAndLeave: ㄹㄹ Yeah, sounds like them. ㅋㅋ]
[What are the chances you’d run into them again?]
[This is insane. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
[If you keep matching with ‘Chinese’ players every time you play battle royale, that’s legendary. ㄹ]
[Pepe: Try saying hi? ㄱㄱ]
[I don’t think they realize their mic is on.]
[Wait, are they a streamer too?]
Hmm.
Normally, I’d storm the building and turn the opponent into Swiss cheese.
But right now?
I had a better idea.
What if I talked to them first?
It could be fun.
Click.
I went into my settings and switched my mic from “Always Off” to “Always On.”
And after a brief moment.
“Hey there.”
“Huh? What the—”
A response came immediately.
Even though they were eating, they weren’t completely off guard.
“I’m that guy from the lobby earlier. Mind if I come inside?”
“Nope.”
“Aw, come on. We were on good terms.”
“That’s true… but we’re enemies now. Also, I’m eating, so I can’t react fast.”
At this point, I couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief.
“No way—you’ve been eating this whole time.”
[+HurryAndLeave: ㄹㄹㅋㅋ]
[LOOOOOOL]
[Yotte speaking facts. bb]
[Seriously, though. ㅋㅋ]
[How long does it take to eat one meal??]
[How good is that food that you’ve been eating it all day?]
[Pepe: This is hilarious. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
“I’m just eating because I’m hungry. Why do you care?”
“Anyway, I’m coming up.”
“If you do, I’m definitely shooting.”
“Come on, don’t be like that. I could’ve just thrown grenades and killed you by now, but I didn’t. Let’s try getting along.”
I was serious.
If I really wanted to, I could lob grenades, wait for the explosion, then storm in and finish the job with my gun.
Simple.
“This is starting to sound like a threat.”
“So, what’s your answer? Yes or no? If you say no, I’ll just leave.”
…Though, to be fair, if they did refuse, I was absolutely planning to charge in and kill them.
Just as I was thinking that.
“Hmm… Fine, come in. But no shooting.”
“I won’t shoot, so don’t shoot me either.”
“Of course, I won’t.”
I genuinely had no intention of firing.
Even if I died, I could just queue up for another match.
Right now, I was more interested in making this round entertaining.
[+HurryAndLeave: This negotiation is intense. ㅋㅋ]
[I feel like they’re both just waiting for the perfect moment to backstab each other.]
[They’re totally gonna shoot each other the second they meet.]
[It’d be hilarious if they actually don’t kill each other.]
[Pepe: Yeah, but not shooting is almost impossible. ㅋㅋ]
After our little agreement, I slowly entered the building.
There was always a chance she was waiting at the stairs with her gun ready.
Step, step.
“I’m coming up now.”
“I’m not shooting, so don’t worry. Seriously.”
“…You sound like you’re about to shoot.”
“I swear I’m not.”
Even if she did try something, I had my shotgun ready.
With my aim, I was confident I could win in a close-range fight.
Slowly, I made my way up the stairs.
“I dropped all my guns on the floor, so hurry up.”
“…Confirming.”
It could be a lie.
But I decided to take the risk and rushed up.
And then.
“Oh… wait, she actually did drop them.”
Scattered on the floor were her guns.
And standing beside them, staring directly at me, was the woman from earlier.
“Hello.”
“Ah, yes.”
Now that we were face-to-face, things felt a bit awkward.
It was like joking around online and then suddenly meeting in real life.
“What are you eating now?”
“I ordered some dakgangjeong.”
“…Didn’t you just have a hot dog?”
“Yeah, but it was good.”
I was speechless.
If she liked it, I couldn’t exactly tell her to stop eating.
I just had to accept it.
Anyway.
“How long have you been playing this game? I haven’t been playing for long.”
“Oh, I’m a veteran. I’ve played for about… two hours.”
[+HurryAndLeave: Two hours??? LMAO.]
[That’s like, ultra-newbie status. ㅋㅋ]
[Wait, their voice sounds kinda familiar…]
[Aren’t they famous?]
[Pepe: Yeah, I swear I’ve heard this voice somewhere before. ㅋㅋ]
[Tbh, their voice is really nice.]
[They don’t sound Korean, though.]
[Maybe Japanese?]
The chat seemed convinced they were some kind of celebrity.
But that had nothing to do with me.
Who even is this?
I didn’t know every streamer out there, so I had no clue.
Maybe the viewers were just messing around.
“Well, I’m gonna grab a drink real quick. Watch my back.”
“Oh? You really trust me that much? I could just shoot you in the back, you know.”
“That’s fine. I’ll just put a curse on you if you do.”
“…Excuse me?”
“I’ll be right back with my coffee.”
I stood up, poured myself a cup of coffee from the fridge, and returned to my seat.
Surely, she hadn’t killed me while I was gone.
That would be really disappointing.
Just as I sat back down.
Smack! Smack!
She was punching me.
“…Oh?”
Curious to see how far she’d go, I just watched.
And then.
“If you still don’t shoot me after this, I’ll add you as a friend so we can play together sometime.”
Muttering something weird, she started dropping medkits all around me.
