Chapter 15 : I Will Compensate You So That You Won’t Regret It (Part-2)
by fnovelpia
Everyone in Team 1 likely had a clear understanding that Chief Yoo was, in essence, fervently wishing for his own demise, yet despite this troubling scenario, the sniper nonetheless took action to rescue him.
This situation undoubtedly served as a discreet signal — an unspoken indication that he was considering a transition to Team 2.
If any member of Team 1 found themselves desiring a transfer to another team, they would find that their request would be met with openness and acceptance.
“Phew… Pull some people from Teams 2 and 3 and form a task force. About 30 people. The target is Min Cheol-woo. Capture only. No exceptions. Capture.”
A profound and heavy sigh escaped from Director Park’s lips.
He had already endured significant losses.
Losses of both individuals and his own reputation.
To rectify this, merely killing Min Cheol-woo would not suffice — he needed to capture him.
“I’ll prepare a list of skilled men and have it to you in 30 minutes.”
“No. Don’t pick skilled ones. Pick desperate ones.”
“Yes, sir.”
As long as their skills were not entirely below acceptable standards, that was considered satisfactory.
What he required were individuals who were eager and willing to align themselves with Director Park — those who would keep their mouths shut, be simple to control, and possess vulnerabilities that could be used to his advantage.
The secretary immediately comprehended the situation and lowered his head as he exited the hospital room.
Director Park had never truly experienced the repercussions of information leaks originating from Team 2 in the past.
But this time, the intelligence gathering that had been conducted by Team 2 ultimately found its way into the hands of Oriental and even the National Intelligence Service (NIS), resulting in a complete breakdown of the situation.
Even the CEO, Kim, had been infuriated and had expressed his frustration toward him vehemently.
He was bewildered by the question: Why did you choose to stir the pot and create chaos when Team 1 was more than capable of managing the situation autonomously?
As a consequence of those actions, they suffered the loss of the president of Oriental Shipping, and the main office was inundated with agents from the NIS.
He was forced to endure the lengthy tirade of an elderly man berating him for over an hour.
It was a bit late in the day when the realization struck him, but it was now undeniably evident — he required a private unit that he could fully depend on, one that would never, under any circumstances, divulge any information.
Now he comprehended the lengths to which Chief Yoo exerted himself to keep Team 1 insulated from outside influences and interactions.
The leaks that had occurred up until now were one issue, but the potential consequences of even the sensitive information provided by the doctor becoming public knowledge… that would inevitably lead to an unprecedented crisis.
The fact that the doctor chose to approach him rather than going through Chief Yoo indicated that he possessed an acute awareness of the interpersonal dynamics at play within their environment.
Park had initially perceived him merely as a skilled and capable doctor — but perhaps he was being overlooked and his talents underutilized within the confines of the company hospital.
Either way, this was the chance to tighten security once and for all.
“Director, the sniper from Team 1 — he wants to transfer.”
“Put him on the task force too. He’s going in on this operation. Once everything’s assembled, don’t wait for me — get them geared up and send them to the Mirae Hotel. The one across from Dongyang Department Store.”
“Yes, sir. Are you going to command them yourself?”
“Of course. What else can I do?”
Can’t you see I’m forcing myself into this damn suit?
Park shot him an annoyed look.
There was no other way to clean this mess up — he had to personally lead the task force to capture Min Cheol-woo.
He might’ve had to slim down the size of the unit a bit to keep it tight, but in terms of intel? Park still had a clear edge over Team 1.
“Is Team Leader Lee okay as squad leader?”
“Lee’s great. He’s solid.”
Park nodded enthusiastically, showing a clear and exuberant agreement.
Team Leader Lee — undeniably loyal to a fault, demonstrating unwavering fidelity.
As long as Park ensured that his mother’s hospital bills were taken care of, this guy would eagerly wag his tail in submission and obedience to orders until the very end.
Most individuals exhibited loyalty primarily to money, valuing financial gain above all else.
Lee, however, directed his loyalty towards the individual who provided him with the money — a strategy that he considered safer and more reliable.
“…What the hell is this?”
Park grabbed his buzzing phone.
The alert was from a tracking app — it pinged when a tracker moved more than 1km from the last confirmed location.
The dot that had been fixed at the Mirae Hotel had suddenly jumped to a road much farther away.
Where the hell is this bastard going?
And then, he spotted a familiar building.
Team 1’s office.
“Shit. Call the Team 1 office.”
“Sorry? The Team 1 office?”
“Yeah! Hurry up!”
“Nothing you like? What about the anklet?”
“Are you nuts? Do I look like a sex offender?”
“This ring looks pretty.”
“You wear it. Why the hell would I wear something as huge as that?”
“There’s even a choker version.”
“This one’s… not bad.”
Yuri examined her reflection closely in the mirror, taking a moment to appreciate how the choker with a location-tracking chip embedded inside it looked against her skin as she fastened it around her neck.
While she had dismissed most of the other items that Cheol-woo had brought her as completely unsuitable and lacking in appeal, this choker stood out distinctly—this was something that she genuinely found appealing.
Unlike the rest of the items, which she regarded as mere utility tools for monitoring and surveillance, this choker surprisingly managed to blend functionality with style, serving not only as a piece of equipment but also as a legitimate accessory that could seamlessly complement her outfit and personal fashion sense.
“Looks good on you.”
“You were just thinking it looks like a dog collar, weren’t you?”
“W-what? No!”
“Bastard.”
She was irritated as hell, but still, it wasn’t like she could just go without wearing it.
Things had gone smoothly this time at Dongyang Department Store only because there was no immediate intent to go against Cheol-woo—but there was no guarantee it would always be like that.
Was he going to keep calling her every time, hoping she’d answer, and run around looking for her?
It was way safer to just implant a tracker.
“So, you’ve decided to completely ignore their offer?”
“Yeah. They were too rude. Treated us like free labor or something.”
“Agreed.”
It wasn’t that Cheol-woo had never considered joining Oriental.
They were an enemy of Geummyeong Group, so he figured they might be able to help out.
But the way they talked—no manners, no respect—made it not even worth continuing the conversation.
It seemed smarter to break through via Section Chief Jeong and carve out a new path that way.
‘The best defense is a good offense,’ wasn’t it?
If what Jeong said was true, the ports and airports were all locked down.
To break that lockdown, they’d need a serious strike.
Just then, Yuri’s phone rang sharply—trrrring!
The number had just been saved.
It was President Han Sirin.
Cheol-woo picked it up for her.
“What is it?”
[Mr. Min Cheol-woo. I have a favor to ask.]
“Where’s your conscience? You got the nerve to ask me for a favor now?”
[Chief Yoo has stormed into the department store. There’s something in there that absolutely must not be found. If he starts searching, it’s only a matter of time. Please, if you can drive him out, I’ll reward you.]
She was trying to sound calm, but the tremble in her voice gave her away.
Drive out Chief Yoo?
What, was she asking him to take up arms and go attack Yoo’s men?
Chief Yoo’s personal unit wasn’t even in the same league as Team 1 under Jeong’s command.
You’d have to be insane to poke a wasp’s nest like that.
He was just about to hang up with a “Too bad, good luck,” when he paused.
[…Please. I promise I’ll make it more than worth your while.]
Ah.
There was one way…
